The Worst Things in Ipswich, Suffolk*

The entirely missable and worth mentioning because of it

You can tell us more about Ipswich.

The Worst Things
  • SCUM IN BELSTEAD ARMS
  • John Corbett,rude Irish turncoat!
  • What USED to be one of the worst things was the boorish, low class, low lives off USAFE Bentwaters either male or female,PSEUDO-"military" or dependent, ill disciplined, childish, rude, spiteful, vindictive. They called themselves military!NO WAY!DISGUSTING!
  • The left wing do-NO-"gooders" with their stolen polytechnic scarves, jumble sale fawn coloured cordruoy jackets & CND badge on the lapel-backstabbing,lying swines!
  • Chantry Estate - Sheldrake Drive and Radcliffe Drive specifically, it's full of morbidly obese women and aggressive, red faced, bald men. For some reason they have all adopted the uniform of fluorescent jackets and combat trousers (I guess they think it gives them an air of authority). Ultimately Chantry is were the council store the mentally unstable and the highly aggressive! Anyone who chooses to live there is quite obviously wanting to become king of the chavs. Although it's fun to drive through now and again to laugh at the mutton headed buffoons wandering aimlessly about. "Shall we go top shop or bottom shop...?" that's the biggest decision a 'Chantrian' has to make all day!!
  • norwich city rabbits.up the town!!!
  • The anglo-italian scum,ill-bred glaswegians
  • Italian F---k bitch types.I would have loved one of them at one time but they smashed my dreams.
  • Those Italian bitch women could have easily found me a good Italian girl/wife but I was not good enough only local yahoo's were good enough
  • Those Italian bitch women could have easily found me a good Italian girl/wife but I was not good enough only local yahoo's were good enough
  • The rude, ill-bred,vicious,spiteful anglo- italians who like to show off & spite anybody TRULY decent.I was not good enough for their baby girls but some lousy Ipswich yahoo or thug was.I hated them,I still do.
  • chavs chavettes sharrons trevors gary bois you kno the crowd absolute thugs
  • rains alot in suffolk
  • Political Correctness stops us from discussing Ipswich's latest problem. However walk around the town centre and listen out for their distintive language.
  • Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights in the town centre. Probably why I don't live there anymore.
  • Chantry is the South Central of Suffolk. Dont go there unless you're armed to the teeth
  • SGR FM, without a shadow of a doubt the worst local radio station in the country, where the same songs are pumped out on an almost hourly basis, the presenters have the most ridiculous 'mockney' accents and are generally crap all round and the adverts are so lame, especially when they're supposed to be amusing, that I always make a point of NEVER buying anything I hear advertised
  • Many of the building look dated.
  • ipswich has nuffin n its lyk for old people i fink. i kinda stand bk n watch ppl make fools of themselves cos they fink they r so tuff n so hard lyk actin lyk they run ipswich all i can say is u dnt evn no wot its lyk ipswich is sooo TAME thers nowhere to go and nuffin to do so everyone ends up smokin at the age of 10 wen they realise that theyll nevr escape from that gosh darn village they live in. its a shame really.. these kids theyll never know wot its lyk to go to gigs everywkend hang out down leiscter sq n muck about in trocederos get lost on the tubes n make random friends at the tate evry tym they visit, yet they seem happy wiv smokin drugs at the sk8 park from the age of 12+ and startin silly little mosh pits to a cd at weird indie nights.... well i say gd luck 2 u then n gd luck wiv the fishin.. im jus voicin my opinion since iv had to put up wiv goin to ipswich for ages now bt jus fort i wud say to all the beggas out ther ITS TAME ipswich is soo tame so stop tryin dem ends r berrrrrr borin, n im pretty shure all u lot ther wud agree
  • HOAX
  • The people - they are like the scenery - flat, boring and unyielding.
  • more greebos
  • Where to start....? It's boring and full of townies.
  • the darker side of ipswich that normal every day people do not get to see... killings, robberies etc...portman road has turned really sour lately..dont go down there at night
  • THE DRUGS, THE WEAPON TRAFFICING AND THE PROSTITUTION RING, NOT TO MENTION THE GANGSTERS, THE WANNABE GANGSTERS AND ALSO THE GENERALLY SCREWED UP PEOPLE!! THIS IS A HORRIBLE TOWN, DONT GO OUT AT NIGHT COZ YOU WILL END UP BEATEN, RAPED, MUGGED OR WORSE.
  • Ipswich is to be fair full of townies...get them out!!!send them to liquid, anywhere,,just get them away!! also all the wanky people going to wanky places, dressing in shirts and shoes and getting drunk and raped by a hen party in pals..NOOOO!!!!
  • Nowhere is open beyond 11pm, so unless you want to go clubbing, there's not much to do. Actually, there's not really much to do full stop. Ipswich is full of townies and stupid people who walk reeeeeally slowly in front of you in the street. Grr!!! Get out while you can, kids!!!
  • There is alot of violence in ipswich now days, although I feel the gary boys are slowly getting use to seeing 'greebo's and goths' everywhere.
  • Bad attitude from the young ones ! The white guys hating the black guys.
  • It's not quite Singapore or Portugal with the chewing gum on the streets (or St Albans says me mum).TOO many kids clogging up the pathways with they're gangs and skateboards/bmx bikes. Many proud folks.Public transport aint that good to places outside of Ipswich. And if you ask me, which you have, public transport is too darn expenisve!!
  • rise in crime and violence at nite. was in MacDonalds the other nite about 10:30pm some bloke started kicking off. ended up with one staff getting punched and the bloke getting arrested! what is the world coming too!!!!!!!!!
  • Penningtons Estate Agents. Bastards. The worst of their kind!
  • Outsiders who are not content to just live in this once wonderful town of my childhood (58 years ago)but seem determined to run the place as a city and change the once excellent local paper that is trying to turn this town into a joke before they relocate and destroy another town. Here we are now supposed to walk around with straw in our mouths saying "ooh aah, tractor men".They have made us seem so silly the Labour Party wouldn't trust a local born person to stand in the recent election. Now they hope to turn what they portray as a farmyard into a city. I wish they would leave us alone and relocate themselves.
  • Ipswich Town Councils obsession with turning it into a city - obviously because the town councillers think it will make them more important. ITC's elaborate advertising and media campain - which must have cost a lot of ratepayers money - to turn our nice town into a city. As someone else has written, if you want to live in a city, go and live in London! Political advertising stickers on wheelie bins. I once peeled off a political sticker off my bin - and do you know what? - a replacement was stuck on again on the very next rubbish collection day! There are three of them at the moment. The way that the town council and the local paper both pretend that people in Ipswich are really keen and enthusiastic to get the town turned into a city - when everyone I've met hates the idea and nobody wants it. Nobody apart from the town councillors wants it to become a city. Ipswich is the World Capital of ugly sculpture. All of the scupture is really genuinely UGLY - and theres lots of it, all on the orders of ITC and paid for by us ratepayers! Rushmere Common used to be a piece of wild countryside. Unfortunately in the last few years it has been turned into a combined manicured golf course and municipal park. I still remember when a lot of it was bulldozed away to expand the golf course some years ago. The latest obscene atrocity is how the natural turf has been cut up and several paths made for the golfers with orange sand. Why? There are also now a lot of ugly signs. It you want a piece of wild countryside now you have to go all the way to Dunwich Heath. There has also been a lot of house building on it, making the heath seems about half the size it was. Unfortunately what was once countryside is now just a sprawling suburb all the way from Ipswich to Woodbridge. The way that the bridge over the Orwell spoilt a beautiful view. It could have been built higher up the river and much smaller, but it wasnt. Shame we havnt got an airport anymore.
  • The men are annoying
  • the idiots who have six pints and then want to fight, pushers and the kids.
  • Gary Boys, Rude boys (those people whose intelligence is proportional to the height of their car off the floor) or anyone who thinks that Ipswich is the be all and end all of this world.
  • Everyone knows everyone, or knows someone who knows that bloke who knows you, or knows someone you used to work with or who is the sister/brother of someone you used to go out with. chances are everyone born here is probably related.
  • all the ugly, low-life gary boyz and sharons
  • Stupid twats from the ipswich high scool being to loud after half a shady on the sly...posh knobs
  • Gary Boys, Garage music everywhere you go.
  • Clothes shops could be better - usually end up going into Cambridge for a good shop.
  • The increasingly bizarre traffic/roads policy. Bus lanes everywhere, pointless thirty mile an hour speed limits (i.e. Ipswich - Martlesham road) and cycle lanes. But worst of all, the current idea of putting bloody traffic lights on roundabouts! Surely the point of a roundabout is to avoid the need to have traffic lights? Apparently not in Ipswich - more specifically around Grange Farm on that Martlesham road. Ridiculous.
  • The proliferation of traffic lights that seem to be springing up anywhere there's a junction. Did the council buy a job lot cheap? Traffic congestion - it's getting worse in spite of the bus lanes etc.
  • The worst thing about Ipswich is a company called ANGLIA MOTOR INSURANCE 31 Princes Street the worst car insurance company ever. They never reply to your letters and customer services dont even seem to exist despite them telling you that someone will ring you back(never do)when questioned about this they state that we did call but there was no reply.( I have Bt caller display and no calls registered.I feel a lot better now writing this ray.j.p@btinternet.com a very unhappy customer.(now an ex customer)
  • A council who welcome every development with open arms so that the place is full of Drive-in's, horrible pubs and rubbish shopping centres, and The Evening Star - local evening paper that is essential reading but that applauds all of the above. Both of these bodies are leading a campaign to get Ipswich city status which kind of defeats the object of living in a Suffolk TOWN. Everyone who wants to live in a city should piss off to London!
  • Lack of decent clubs and live music venues: The Regent gets has-beens and while the Corn Exchange gets the odd good band it's very infrequent and the acoustics are dreadful. The locals tend to be stand-offish, and the accent's pretty dodgy. Loads of derelict buildings that have been neglected for years. An appalling one-way system - one mile detours to reach the next street are commonplace. Crap shops.
  • Worst thing in the town are the council offices, AKA the Civic Centre, and the really naff sculpture supposedly of a ship, on the roundabout outside it.
  • The council's unerring willingness to build large shopping centres (Tower Ramparts, Buttermarket) and not being able to fill them with shops. Utter crap.
  • The lamest thing is the amount of hassle you get from Garys, police etc.
  • The Evening Star and its obsession with Daniel O'Donnell and its Clean up the Orwell campaign not to mention its Pride in Ipswich campaign etc. etc.
  • Lack of decent cheap, crowded, sweaty, dodgy, cool clubs for young people, (but not too young!). Or perhaps it's the young people who are missing.
  • I live here so I normally have to go back after the weekend... There isn't much choice in Ipswich (eg only one cinema who can charge whatever they want 'cos there's nowhere else within 50 miles!), and shopping for clothes is nigh on impossible.
  • Sundays are so dull (especially in winter, as at least in the summer, you can venture elsewhere in East Anglia). Some may actually enjoy this but hailing from Newcastle, I like Sunday nights out...(sob!)
  • Bus Lanes They are coming up everywhere, the plan would seem to be to convert the whole town road system to bus lanes, and then charge the earth so that no one uses them. Traffic problems solved.
  • Grass verge parking. This is getting so bad the town in parts is begining to look like a holiday camp minus the tents, Defoe Road is particularly well adept at creating this impression.
  • I lived near Ipswich in 1995 for 12 months and used to go into the town regularly. Ipswich has lovely buildings and most of the people are very friendly. However, while I was there I noticed an increasing trend of violence - more and more you couldn't go out unless you wanted your face smashed in. Several of my friends came from Chantry, which is like the arse of Birmingham, and they said Chantry was full of guns, knives and stupidity... this was an opinion that I thoroughly agreed with by the end of the year. Also, every town match was an opportunity for local bands of thugs led by the I.R.A. (Ipswich Republican Army...dear God!) to get out on the piss and attack anyone not wearing Ipswich Town colours. Anyone wearing Ipswich colours was thrashed by Norwich (nickers off ready when I come home) Town supporters who turn up aggressively drunk in Ipswich every second Saturday. Basically Ipswich is a nice place to drive through and perhaps spend a week, but avoid all forms of life... if possible.
  • The Evening Star - one of the most tacky tabloid efforts of a local paper
  • Libertys
