Hookup Spots
  • South Sea Pacific on Kennington Rd - Kenningtons' coolest hangout, excellent live music good for a quick drink that inevitably turns into a late one with lots of dancing. Friendly atmosphere where everyone gets chatty.
  • If I'm not allowed to be : "defamatory, racist, malicious or otherwise unlawful - this isn't a soapbox for prejudice, personal abuse or private vendettas", as a former Kennington Barrister I may as well bugger off ? But, hang on. Aha. There is always, is there not, oh yes there is, a flip side. Er, not to say 'they', but instead to say 'we', they have always told me that we are quite wrong to say things like that. Point is that Waterloo is a hell of a lot better than Kennington. For example : 1. My ex-wife Lin Cantlay does not live in it. 2. Lots of spies do. 3. Everyone thinks the spies were in Century House, 100 Westminster Bridge Road. Now converted into posh flats, wrecking the economy for the locals. Spies supposedly at ludicrous Vauxhall eyesore, already featured in a James Bond film. 4. We mostly know better ? 5. Real spies are located at : So-called '3i' Building, Waterloo Road, SE1. Just look at the spooky logo ? 6. Also in Waterloo Station itself, a vast civil service un-named office block, surrounded by handy station. People waffle on about Platform 19, but I have no idea what they mean. 7. Waterloo has the Union Jack Club, and is packed with former service people. James Bond is a Commander. 8. Waterloo also has headquarters of Fire, Police (weird Lambeth Road citadel, expanding). Ambulance (Waterloo Road), Fire (Embankment), and ... 9. !!! Cable & Wireless !!! Near the Elephant. The posh paper - The Times - recently blew the gaffe, 'T2' section pages 3-4, a few days ago, saying that we must assume everything we say or send from a mobile phone is worldwide property in seconds, and on Blunkett's desk in minutes. Thank God he is blind. 10. Worse still, the 999 Emergency service has been secretly privatised, does not work, and is split between B.T., and Cable & Shitless. Scotland Yard has confirmed that part to me directly, and they hate it. 11. More importantly, Waterloo has greenery, Millennium status, and a fabulous Waterfall on the Millennium Green to the right of the Old Vic. Enjoy ! 12. And do not worry to much about the homeless folk. They are mostly paid spies too ? Tony Cantlay, Barrister, 07986 476929. 'Crap Advice - But Free'.

  • The park used to be Kennington Common a famous meeting place (and the South London venue for public executions!). On 10th April 1848 The Chartists had their famous monster rally there. Following this event, which freaked out the British establishment, the common was enclosed in 1852 and made into a Royal Park. For more details see: www.backspace.org/kenningtonpark
