  • Kettering gave the world Steve Panther 'Sir Horace' of The Specials also that keyboards chap in The Communards. In football The Poppies produced one of the all time great England captains - Eddie Hapgood - who also led Arsenal to their many triumphs in the 30s. Was there a better centre forward than Tommy Lawton, player manager here in '56-'57. Ron Atkinson of course started his managerial career here. Derek Dougan started and finished his here. Irish International Eddie McGoldrick was also produced by The Poppies. KETTERING WERE THE FIRST TEAM IN BRITAIN TO WEAR ADVERTISING ON THEIR SHIRTS. Kettering were the first team to play at Ninian Park, Cardiff. The youngest player in the FA Cup was 15 year old Scott Endersby who played in the First Round against Tilbury in the late '80s. Although Kettering won the match, they still lost. They were made to play it again because they hadn't registered Len Glover - they lost the replay, another first though.
