  • You still have posts from the last century... not exactly current info, is it? I visit Lynn occasionally on business and would like to see up-to-date info, not 1996 posts... Otherwise, great site! Tony in Bedford
  • There is nothing as thick in the Universe as the spotty baseball capped Gaywood based neanderthals of this town.
  • There is nothing as thick in the Universe as the spotty baseball capped Gaywood based neanderthals of this town.
  • lynn is currently (2005) being rebuilt to modernise it and attempt to attract any kind of business in, but frankly if it ever gets completed i'll be amazed, i've lived in lynn for nigh on 20years, but i would never recommend u come unless ur visiting me or have a penchant for shit History.

  • safety info: get out of kings lynn as fast as you can. Its the wierdest and horriblest place ive ever been. shame on all of you for living there.
  • I really like the friendliness of all the people in Lynn. I meet new people and they know me as Karen will vouch for this. Really cool and nice!!
  • Poetry - Bazil Figura The Lynn Poet(unofficial) Decsribed as'Pam Ayers on speed' very funny, very thought provoking see him at a venue near you soon.
  • I saw a carousol horse in a shop window in a road off Tuesday Market and I believe the man who fashioned it was born in Lynn. I think the horses were called jumpers but I just can't remember the name of the man.
  • pure 4 piercings
  • DONT SAY BAD THINGS ABOUT LYNN JUST BECAUSE YOU DONT LIKE IT.
  • Why, the rumours of a witches heart above the bank in the Tuesday Market Place?
  • A town that was cruelly destroyed by London overspill. The accent has hinges of cockney, while the Norfolk pedigree is dead.

  • Lynn is inbred and small we couldn`t fit anything anywhere
  • Every year in July there is the two week festival based around the Tuesday Market Place. Basically Bands, Booze and Burgers. This year [96] Boney-M played.
  • I lived in Kings Lynn for 13 years before moving to British Columbia, Canada. It is culturally diverse with good and bad points.
    • Lots of low cost and council housing designed for the London overflow of the late sixties and seventies. There is also a wealthy population that live in other areas such as Wootton, and some of the surroundings villages, of which there are many.
    • Being a town in the middle of the Fens, people come from all over the area for the Tuesday and Saturday markets held year round. They're worth a visit: Tuesdays is the biggest.
    • A good place to stay is at Fairlawns, owned by Penny and Tim Rowe, excellent B&B, on Vancouver Avenue.
    • The Queens only privately owned house Sandringham is a short drive and one can watch the Royal family walk to church when they are in residence.
Hope this brief report dismisses some of the ideas that Kings Lynn is a dead end town.
  • King's Lynn can be a charming little place - if you know where to look.
    • For example, take a trip across the River Great Ouse - either by foot-ferry accessible from a passage next to the Fermoy Centre (qv) now called the King's Lynn Arts Centre, by the way! - or by driving ou talong the A47 and turning right into West Lynn off the A47 Lynn bypass -- and you'll see the waterfront side of KL - charming and beautiful.
    • It's a shame about the geographical location though - being set in the middle of the fens means there are lots of agricultural types wandering the streets with wellies, and wearing trousers adorned with pig muck and held up with bits of orange string! Most people seem related to each other, too, which was a problem for me at school if I wanted to pick a fight with someone, as he probably had his uncle in the year above!
    • In 1985, the blockbuster (not!) movie Revolution, starring Al Pacino, Donald Sutherland and Natassha Kinski, was filmed principally in KL, which was turned into American Civil War New York. (Ely was Philadelphia and the estuary sequences were filmed at Burrator Reservior on Dartmoor near Plymouth, Devon). The area known as King's Staithe Square was the main centre of the action, and most of us college lads spent most of the time (unsuccessfully) trying to find out where Nastassha was staying!
    • King's Lynn hosts the Mart - the first event of the year for the travelling fairground fraternity. For a week (maybe two) the Mart takes over the Tuesday Market Place. This is a famous landmark on the fairground calendar! King's Lynn residents refer to "Mart Weather" - as it always snows during Mart week.
    • At the other end of High Street lies St Margaret's Church - on Saturday Market Place - inside are some brass plaques recording how high floodwater has reached on various dates in the past couple of hundred years.
    • Other sights: Red Mount Chapel in The Walks - a tiny, really old chapel in a park; St Nicholas Chapel - with a wooden spire - lovely! The North End museum - preserved old fishermens' houses - very small and very smelly! The Library - an unusual-looking building on London Road, built from local sandstone; South Gates - a 16th Century archway through which Queen Victoria once passed.
    • King John of England stayed in King's Lynn and was on his final journey (he died of dysentry, a few days later, in Lincoln[?]) when he and his entourage lost King John's Jewels while crossing the Wash - farmland since reclaimed - near Sutton Bridge, a village on the River Nene (which flows from Northampton, through Peterborough, to Wisbech. From there its final ten miles now are on a man-made straight course - but in John's time it wandered a lot!
    • Bands- Dumpy's Rusty Nuts are probably the best-known - so, no-one famous!!
    • Educational establishments: The Norfolk College of Arts and Technology (NORCAT) on Tennyson Avenue is the place to find students of all shapes and sizes (and ages!).
    • Campbell's Soups make soup(!) in King's Lynn, fashion house Jaeger makes clothes and Frigoscandia freeze fresh fruit and vegetables for most chainstores.
    • Just down the road is Sandringham, occasional residence of HM The Queen. Most Royals are spotted strolling through KL at some point - especially Prince Philip, Prince Charles.
  • Did you know that the last witch to be burnt at the stake in Kings Lynn was in the Tuesday Mark Place? Her heart was supposed to have burst from her body and hit a building. You can find it by standing outside the Dukes', facing the market place. It is the red bricked building on the right. Check out above one of the middle windows. It is marked by a small diamond shape with a heart in the middle.
  • Norfolk College is now called "The College of West Anglia" since it merged with the Cambridge College of Agriculture & Horticulture in the summer of 98.
  • It is a nice place to visit! A very nice place to visit! go ahead!
  • A band called Rebelation come from around here, agit-ska, with a bit of punk and reggae. They might come back and play soon but they're to good to stay.
