Cringing Cult of Celebrity in Kingswinford, West Midlands*
Famous residents and ex-residents.
You can tell us more about Kingswinford.
Cringing Cult of Celebrity
- Captain Lazonby-Threpwell - prolific complainer, shadowy eccentric and man of mystery - his identity is a closely guarded secret and he is said to be one of hidden rulers of Kingswinford
- Steve Nott and his younger brother Tim grew up in K'ford - attended The Glynn and Summerhill schools. They played soccer against Bob Plant and John Bonham up Wolverly way in the mid 70s. Both of these larakins now live in Australia and are part-time session musicians playing for such well known Aussie bands as "The Chris Guy Band" and "Lexcen Lounge Room".
- Well, Lenny Henry is from nearby Dudley....
- Sick & Farm... Local stars sometimes spotted with a bloke from Stourbidge!!
- Steve Nott was the best piss artist in K'ford, unfortunately he now lives and drinks in Australia.
- former wonder stuffies: Malc Treece and Rob Jones (deceased) are from K'Ford. Malc now lives in London. Existing members of the wonder stuff are getting back together for gigs in London and hopefully JB's in december.
- Whosisface from Wizard used to hang about in the Cross
- Despite what it says on this web page, Lenny Henry came from Dudley town centre, in an area, now demolished, at the top of Wellington Road, by the Leisure Centre. My mother was his Health Visitor in the early 1960's so she should know. I belive that Lenny's mother (now deceased) did move to Kingswinford in her latter years. However, if you're looking for famous ex-residents, Wallheath was the place to hang out in the late 60's / early 70's for pre-Led Zepplin megastars!!! (allegedly). In my time in Kingswinford pubs(approx 1985-9) The Gate (now gone), The Leopard (when it had outside loos) and The Cross (before gentrification) were the places to find members of The Wonder Stuff and Pop Will Eat Itself - everyone was a budding rock star.
- Duncan Edwards - famous footballer who died when a plane crashed in Germany.
Richard Burt - Lib Dem councillor famous among the local media for saying controversial things whenever prompted.
- Famous ex resident: Lenny Henry. Guy Fawkes hid out there in Holbeche House.
- Famous residents include the Counceller Richard Burt!!I acn`t think of anyone else.
