• Knaresborough Community Church still meets 10.15 at King James School, but has also planted a new church, Starbeck Community Church meeting 10.15 at St John's Ambulance Hall, near swimming pool in Starbeck, just down the road from Knaresborough in the direction of Harrogate. • A lovely Castle and River with rowing boats for hire. Mother Shiptons Cave with wishing well. Ye Olde Chemist Shope. Nice open air market every wednesday. Lido caravan park, Swimming Pool with slide, jaccuzi etc.

• A very good Icthus Link House church, Knaresborough Community Church meeting every Sunday at 10:15 at King James School.
• I lived in Karesborough for nine years until recently when I moved house to Scarborough. It's a lovely tourist spot with lots of history including the Castle and its museum. At Mother Shipton's cave there is a petrifying well where natural minerals run over limestone rock and turn anything in their way to stone. Many things are hanging on this rock face from teddys to clothes etc... It's the best tourist spot! If you go to Knaresborough at the right time of year you will catch some of the fun events. For example; December - Edwardian week, shop workers dress up in Edwardian costumes and dress their shop windows. Old fashioned stalls appear in the market place and there are fireworks at night. May - The fun run for charity at King James' school. You can run 2.5 miles, 5 miles or 10 miles. There is also a bed race in June that goes through the river and down the High Street!
• This will be very vague, but every year at Christmas (or maybe New Year) there is a tug of war between two pubs across the river from each other. Needless to say, the ones that get pulled into the river lose. This requires much internal fortification before the contest (and afterwards). I forget the names of the pubs, one is the Mother Shipton, I think. You can get to it/them on the "back road" to Harrogate, the one that goes towards Crimple. And while we are going towards Crimple, the Traveller's Rest at Crimple (just past the Wetherby Road) is always worth a visit, good for lunch and lively in the evening.
• No-one mentioned one of the most photographed views in England: the view of the viaduct from the banks of the River Nidd. The Knaresborough that I like to remember is before commercial endeavours made it a tourist trap. The wishing well charged sixpence admission to anyone who wished to take the lovely walk down by the riverside. Many a wish I have made there (some of them actually came true). It is home to the Oldest Chemist Shoppe in England - near the market place, and also has the best fish 'n chips shop in the Square.
• The tug of war mentioned in your pages takes place on Boxing day. It is between a team representing the Half Moon pub on one side of the river and a team from The Mother Shipton ( the pub on the other side). If you want to watch. Don't try to park close. Park in the Market Place and follow the smell of embrocation and the crowd going down hill to the river. Oh - by the way - the local glass merchant is a good bloke. • i went to King James' school in Knaresborough where i studied for my GCSE,s. The time at the school was pleasant and i have a catalogue of thouroughly enjoyable memories. Knareborough is one of those towns which is great for the visiting tourist and extremely pitoresque but deep down it is a completely corrupt place full of conflict. The school had a terrible teaching ethos in the sense of the 'rich get richer and the poor get poorer' ethos. There are a vast array of scrubbers populating this town and with Starbeck bordering the situation is made worse. Do not worry Marco Critella and the forth reich will come and escue you.
