by winnie (Member 10249708) on 4-Aug-2010

During World War 2, was there a radio station
'on the hill' at Ladybank around 1941 - 1943?
I believe the Signals Unit of the First Polish Armoured Division were there. Grateful for any more information please...

| Wedding band Scotland in Fife

www.centralmusicagency.co.uk for wedding bands in Ladyband.
The first thing that a couple asks when hiring a wedding band is:
Can you give me a cost?
Our wedding band costs are so good we don’t have to hide them. Just take a look at our package prices under the heading of 7pm till 12pm.
Our ceilidh band The Kippen Ceilidh Band can function as a 2, 3, 4 or 5 piece and don't worry about your dances as we can supply a caller to make your ceilidh go with a highland fling.
If you are looking for a live band that can play covers and a bit of ceilidh then Sound Cradle are your perfect band. Both Heskey and Sound Cradle have played nearly every major 5 star hotel in Scotland with over 200 wedding receptions under their belts. So if you are looking for live bands with experience and the ability to have you dancing all night look no further.
If you would prefer a full ceilidh band and covers band take a look at our very reasonable package prices.
Central Music Agency also supply discos as part of a live band package. If you would like a wedding/function band and disco we give you the most cost effective solution. Just add on £110 to any of our band costs for your disco. Our own DJ, Rick, gives you a light and sound show to die for.
All of our musicians and disco would be at your wedding reception all night. Usually we would set a program of events before the night but this is obviously flexible to fit in with the flow of the night.
Not only do we supply musicians of a first class quality but our prices are very reasonable. Don’t pay the wedding band tax? Our wedding bands all believe in a fair wage for a fair nights work. Central Music Agency only works with bands who don’t add on the cost just because it’s a wedding. ... more >>

| PMR 446 Mhz Internet Gateway in the CENTRAL FIFE area
|
by uk511 (Member 10159394) on 23-Jul-2005
|
Welcome to the info page for the PMR 446 Mhz Internet Gateway in the CENTRAL FIFE area
it operates on the following Channel: 7 CTCSS: 19
Operating Hours: 24 hrs
There are PMR446 Internet Gateways up and down the UK and now across the world that anybody with a PMR446 radio can have access to. As an example of how this works, someone within range of my gateway link can talk through that link, over the internet, and out through another gateway in, say, Belgium or Australia. Someone within range of that second gateway can then communicate back and thus establish a conversation.
Accessing the gateway using your PMR446 Radio All the gateways operate a CTCSS access system which requires a CTCSS capable radio with CTCSS set to 127.3Hz (CTCSS tone 19 on most radios).
To access the PMR 446 Mhz Internet Gateway in the CENTRAL FIFE area set your radio to Channel 7, CTCSS code 19
The gateway is very easy to use. You use it as you would with a normal one to one communication, no callsigns are required, just call CQ or just a straightforward 'Hello, this is X calling from Y, anyone copy?' and you might be surprised who comes back to you as there are gateways all over the world. Note that there can often be a delay from the station that you are speaking to and don't forget to wait for the pips after their over before you transmit. It is also best to press the PTT button on your radio and wait a second before speaking to make sure the beginning of your over doesn't get cut off. If you don't have CTCSS on your radio you won't be able to transmit to the gateway but you will still be able to listen in on Channel 4.
When the system is idle the gateway will play this voice message every 10 minutes identifying the gateway. This message was generated using The Festival Speech Synthesis System on Linux.
During the week the network is fairly quiet during the daytime with most activity taking place during the evening and at the weekend but if it is quiet call CQ, a lot of people are monitoring even if they're not talking...
There are just a few Do's and Don'ts that will help keep the network sane: Don't swear, don't use call or ring tones, do switch off 'roger beeps' if possible.
RADIOS CAN BE BOUGHT AT ARGOS AND MANY STORES AND ALSO AT JAYCEE ELECTRONICS IN WOODSIDE GLENROTHES PLEASE ENSURE THAT THE RADIOS YOU GET HAVE THE 38 SUB TONES OR CTCSS TONES
thank you from the gateway keeper and we hope you will use and enjoy this free service who knows you could maybe link up with lost freinds and chat with them from all over the world ... more >>

Hi,
My name is Mark
....I am from Gwent in South Wales
I visited Ladybank and the surrounding areas a few times in late 70's earlier 80's..visiting friends I met on holiday and also for the biennial trip for the rugby...
Very nice little village and was made very welcome by all I met...(There for the New year celebrations once...never been given so much whiskey in my life before or since)..is it really 25 years ago ????
I have been back a few times while caravaning in the St Andrews and Perth areas...was in Markinch recently too...with my family and will visit again soon (Fife is the second best place to live I reckon).....
Came across this site by accident and thought
I'd leave a note....Would particularly like to here from anyone who knows Lorna watson, Jacqueline Downie or Freda Ross (Different surnames now as married)it would be nice to hear how they are.
All were nurses at Stratheden (I believe Lorna still is as I have spoken to someone online who knew the name)....
I know I probably wont get a reply but it would be nice to see what life has brought them..
thanks....my email I usually use is
gmg180@aol.com
bye all....Mark G ... more >>

Recently articles have appeared in magazines and the press stating that a small distillery is being developed in old buildings on the Spencer-Nairn estate near Ladybank. Can anyone confirm this story?

Does anyone know about a prisoner of war camp near to Ladybank used in WW2. I'm trying to find out some info on its occupants and would be delighted if anybody could help me out
- Re: Prisoners of war
by Derek Thomson (Member 10037807) on 12-Sep-2002
My uncle, Sandy Thomson(deceased), claimed that he was one of the guards at the camp. I believe that the camp was situated at Annsmuir (beyond the golf course). My father and uncle and their father before them, ran Thomson's bakery in Ladybank and I remember my father saying how, just before he went to the war in 1941, some of the German prisoners of war, from the camp, helped to install some new tables and a new trough (a u-shaped bench used to hold flour and in which the dough was mixed by hand - these were the days before large elecrical mixers with dough hooks were common!!!) Their help was needed as it was made out of beech, a very heavy wood, and it took six of the prisoners to lift it.
I hope this information is of some use to you. ... more >>

Was the person who posted the info on Ladybank actually born in the place?
- Re: The information on Ladybank
by kerrie walker (Member 10085422) on 16-Dec-2002
My sister is CA penman,
i am trying to find info on the italian prisoners of war that were kept on Annsmuir camp during 1944 - 45, i believe they worked on a nearby farm - Bankhead Farm, at Coaltown of Balgonie owned by Robert Cowsland and returned to the camp at night. i understand they returned to italy in sept/ nov 1945.
i am particularly interested in one prisoner Carmello Broncatti or Brancati whom i believe originated in Sicily and came from a farming background.
if you have any info or know anyone of that age group that may know anything about the prisoners it would be greatly appreciated
thank you kerrie ... more >>
