The Best Things in Lancaster, Lancashire*

If you're around, be sure to check these things out

You can tell us more about Lancaster.

The Best Things
  • Lol at the utter bullshit some people are spouting. The music scene in Lancaster, especially, is possibly the most narrow-minded you will ever find. Unless you play acoustic guitar, you have no chance of being even remotely amazed. Peace.
  • The Beauty of the old monuments, Folly's, Quayside all lit up at night. The fact that its a university town which for a city this size has a great night life. The best Taxi service 32090 {:-)>
  • Overall it is a great place to live and I would still be living there now if I didn't need to be closer to my family who live down south. Every place has their good points and bad points but I have lived all over the country and can only think of positives when i think of Lancaster, I miss it so much!
  • The Craft shop- Uptown Crafts its cool!
  • The music scene. Rich and diverse.
  • Market Square on a busy (and sunny) Saturday.
  • the students of course, they make lancaster what it is!!
  • The M6 leading South to civilisation.
  • THE MOTORWAY JUNCTION
  • The people The sense of belonging Knowing that Standen Park might be pretty, but it's built over and amoungst an old 'mental' institution The students and the much needed changes they bring The Lake District being so near The even closer picturisque places such as Williamson's Park, Lune and Crook 'O Lune, and smaller towns within a stone throw Feeling comfortable walking round at night Finding things to do when you look closly Ablitiy to go elsewhere bigger and better when you've looked long enough
  • - The John o' gaunt Pub, good beer and great atmosphere. -It's compact but has enough going on. You feel safe (generally)walking around town at chucking out time.
  • Students. Without all the students and Universities, we wouldn't have all the shops in town and money coming in for re-development etc.
  • lancaster is interesting
  • Never mind demolish it now come and see the website at http://www.ryelandsestate.com
  • The John O'Gaunt. Great food, jazz, lovely beer. I always take visitors here.
  • The uni won an award for the best looking female students!
  • You know everybody.
  • The new Cycle Pedestrian Bridge
  • Hving a brilliant school - Lancaster Royal Grammar. Some of my happiest memories are of living in Lancaster in the early 1980s. What a town!
  • Nice atmosphere and architecture. Not too big, not too small. Could do with a Gap and FCUK but easy to reach Manchester or Preston by train. ELEMENTAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • The sense of community.
  • close to the sea , close to the lakes , close to the yorkshire dales , not far from Blackpool and manchester. friendly people plenty to do if you look hard enough.
  • Blades Street, students, Sainsbury's and the fact that it's cheap to live there and everything is conveniently located within a 5 minute walk.
  • its pretty cheap and its AMAZING if you're a student, you have a REALLY good time....especially if you're COUNTY OR if you live on BLADES street, the best student road....but lancaster is really good, it is small and it seems like there isn't much to do but there is really.... you just grin and bear the smallness of it all
  • The destruction of the warehouse
  • Small but still a city.
  • Drink, friendly people, something for everyone, angry taxi drivers
  • Not too bad if ya know where to look.
  • Friendly people and Sainsbury's.
  • Lancaster boasts a newly re-built shopping centre that has transformed it from a tumble weed strewn dump into a respectable place to go to eat, booz and be merry.
  • Try the Dukes Playhouse for independent and art-house films. The plays aren't bad either and the beer is surprisingly cheap and very well kept (can you tell I used to work there?...)
  • Lancaster is the "gateway" to the Lake District - it's about 15 miles south from one of the best pubs (really!) in England, the Mason's Arms in Cartmel Fell, Cumbria. Take the the Kendal exit from the M6, and consult a map. Hard to find, but well worth the visit - eclectic range of beers, wonderful views of the Winster Valley, superlative food (provided the place is still owned & run by Helen and Nigel Stephenson).
  • Sugarhouse. Pedestrianisation.
