Lead singer of the Specials still lives in Leamington (nxt to newbold common). Tolkien lived in several homes in Warwick including Albert St. References in the LOT Rings books refer to parts of town and Birmingham. The bird (played the detective) from Dangerfield and the now defunct Crossroads lives on the Stratford Rd, Warwick. • Oldest tennis club in the world (originally where the Manor hotel is now in Guys Cliffe Road. Guy of Warwick (its next door so can have him). Frank Whittle - invented the jet engine went to Binswood (North Leamington). Think a recent England cricketeer went to BB.
  • The guy who was at art school with John Lennon is also a very good golfer and a member of Leamington and County Golf Club. His house in leam Terrace was a fantastic place to be in the 60's. He had all the best music and a great football table. His art was all over the walls and he was a brilliant artist. He ran an antique shop for years in Leam for years and I played golf with him many times.Name John Hague
  • Roger Moore did not live in L/Spa....although he nearly bought a house in Barford. The chap in Manor Court was Patrick McGoughan (spelling?) of 60's TV series "Dangerman" & the cult series "Prisoner". And I think it was his parents flat.
  • Mick Lippit. Hermaphrodite love god. Enough said.
  • Mick Brady, Leamington FC Chairman
  • That fella Seal, he apparently used to live above the chip shop up Tavistock St, Leamington Spa.He was always caught in the chip shop bins looking for scraps of fish. Now he's moved on from that, and resides on rocky outcrop near Penzance. Seal gigs are seasonal, due to the changing tides ( Handy hint :water & electric don't mix). Yes, Roger Moore lived in Manor Court......top floor of course ( I've been in one of them.........very plush ).Sometime before he started doing those thingymejig spy films.
  • Yeah I remember Stevie sex and Davey Dunkett - top geezers! They let me crash at their north town pad in 1992 after I got muntered on cheap cider at one of their Birmingham gigs. Lovely guys. Pity they wouldn't share their birds with me though. I can't believe how the women used to throw themselves at the pair of them. Pity they weren't all lookers. I can see why Stevie and Davey had to learn discernment during their rock star years. As Davey once memorably said, "Why go for a ride in an old bus for convenience sake when a juicy porsche will be around the corner for you within half an hour?". Or something like that. Unfortunately, I'm now married to the old bus with 5 hungry conductors to feed. I have copies of all of Stevie's albums if anyone is interested - they're quite a rarety these days. Worth a fair bit of cash, I should think.
  • I know for a fact that those infamous peurveyors of Eighties pimptronic sex songs Stevie sex and Davey Dunkett still live and work in and around the Leamington Spa area. They were most famously booted off a Radio One late night show for performing a truly disgusting "lovesong" to ex Blue Peter presenters Yvette Fielding and Caron Keating back in 1989. Personally I found it hilarious but I know the old fogeys of Leamington Spa didn't and the poor guys found themselves banned from such weird places as Kelly's, Woolworth's and the main Warwick District Council Housing Office. All because they'd brought the town "into disrepute". Ah... those were the days! I think they're still recording albums and suck-like. Still very crude too.
  • Famous satanist Alastair Crowley lived in Leamington Spa and I once met a guy who said he was Gandalf, (although, the chances are he was just another one of the masses of dungeons and dragons playing 35 year olds still living with their mum who live in Leamington.)
  • Snuff used to hang out here and play at Bath Place. Remember their cover of 'I Think We're Alone Now'? No. Banco De Gaia grew up here.
  • I dont know any celebrities that have lived in Leam but i know Ali G and his girlfriend Isla Fisher (Home & Away) came to Leam at some point in 2002 - i think it was May-ish time, and they stayed at the Manor House Hotel (read it in the paper)
  • that guy from eastenders, ian beale, lives somewhere nearby. not sure where.
  • Adam Woodyatt (Ian Beale) lives across the Daventry Road in Southam and is seen walking his dog down here, I have also served him in Tesco Metro in Leamington. Trina Gulliver female world darts champion is also local and we parked next to her car in Budgens car park Southam. Wayne Marshall international pianist and organist has just moved to Leamington Spa and will be married in All Saints Church. He also featured on Young Musicians of the Year as an aujudicator.
  • Mr Crowley, a famous Satanist and basically insane person. Oh, and Randolph Turpin (A heavy weight boxing champion).
  • Alister Crowley used to live here 4 a bit u know! Probably explains a lot!
  • It is Trevor Harrison who plays Eddie Grundy & he used to live on Leam Terrace & drink in the local down there (might still do for all I know!).
  • I saw Ian Beale in Sainsbury's car park.
  • who put david stockden up there i DEMAND to know as it is i!!
  • No one seems to have mentioned the fact that darts player Steve Beaton lives in nearby Southam plus apparently he also works as a driving instructor - wonder if he knows Ian Beale........ Have spotted Gordon Strachan innumerable times in Tesco - he apparentlty lives in those gigantic fairly new houses off Woodlands Road Think that geezer that was friends with Lennon @ art school now owns a small art / framing shop in the street behind The Star & Garter (THE pub for a "fresh faced crowd" when I were a lad - early to mid nineties......)
  • Ian Beale lives nearby.
  • Richard Irvine from soon to be massive band Giant
  • Anne Diamond, Adam Woodsomething (Ian from Eastenders)
  • I nearly moved into the house that Anne Diamond used to own.
  • Alistar Crowley, famous practiser of the dark arts. Acording to local myth he cursed Leamington so that anyone who lives there is doomed to move back, should they ever manage to leave.
  • Queen Victoria had a bath here
  • Napoleon III lived in Clarendon Sq., there is a blue plaque to verify this.... go to the top of the parade, turn left and continue about 200 mtrs, the house is on the left hand side of the square as you enter it.
  • Roger Moore lived at the Manor House flats, (or so I believe).
  • The Archers Aleister Crowley (The Beast) Randolph Turpin (world middleweight boxing champion 1952: still lots of family & friends here!) Film crews for Keeping Up Appearances & Dangerfield (to be avoided in the flesh as on the screen) Germaine Greer (not now, but when she was at Warwick Uni the first time around) Peter Purves (occasional sighting)- he used to do Blue Peter, kids... Andrew Davies (occasional sightings) - saucy playwright Horrible old 70s racists who shall remain nameless
  • I've just thought of some other notorious denizens of L/Spa: it's always been littered with a light sprinkling of Nazis and people of a similar persuasion.... Collin Jordan, leader of the British Nazi party went to Warwick school and Arnold Lodge, the latter kept a photo of him on the mantle piece in the old dining hall in the 1960s! The other scumbag of note was Robert Relph teal estate bigot who offered his house for sale but only to "whites". Arnold Lodge was of course named after Mathew Arnold headmaster of Rugby, and educational reformer....did he not feature in John Brown's School Days???
  • The Edgar Broughton Band Someone out of Curved Air John Lennon's best mate from college The Shapes Woodbine Recording Studios (Recorded "Ghost Town" the Specials & Others) Martin "Fiddley" Bell (Wonderstuff - Dizzy) Steve Miller's Ex missus Highest per capita musicians of any town in UK Steve Walwin - Dr Feelgood. Bass guitarist from Meteors Mummy Calls (sound track of "Lost Boys") Ther are several behind the scene people of significance too.
  • Gordon Strachan is regularly spotted buying suits in M&S. Adam Woodyatt (Ian Beale on Eastenders) is another, but always wears a cap to keep up a disguise.
  • Gordon Strachan - I signed His wife up for membership when I worked at Blockbusters.
  • Aleister Crowley- Some black magic bloke or something born by the war memorial
  • not likely
  • Anne Diamond- Northhumberland Avenue. Adam woodyatt aka Ian from Eastenders.
  • david stockden , up and coming guitar demi-god
  • The character from the Archers is Eddy Grundy, I don't remember the actors name (sorry)
  • anne diamond , sarah greene, ian beale, steven bill
  • Anne Diamond used to live round the corner from me, Gordon Strachan (manager of Coventry City Football Club) used to live 5 mins. away,
  • The school now known as Binswood Hall (sigh) was Leamington College for Boys. It has as a famous 'old boy' Sir Frank Whittle, inventor of the jet engine. He's worth looking up, as his ideas were dismissed as 'impractical'. I went there, they dismissed me as 'stupid'. So, 50% success, right?
  • That bloke from The Archers.....
  • Randolph Turpin middle weight boxing world champ, back in the day And apparantley Adamski and a lad who had a hit with the rave version of sesamestreet.
