Corner eateries, quick bites and the local chippy
You can tell us more about Leicester.
Cheap Food
- MARYLAND CHICKEN
- Heathley Park and The Gynsils are great value for money. 2 meals for £10. Great quality.
- I have too recommend NANDOS which is near the army surplus shops off main street. It does chicken and is gorgeous lol. It's quite middling for prices. There are loads of take-aways around town, but a good place for things like kentucky fried chicken and kebabs is down the road from DeMonfort Hall. If you're overnight in Leicester, there's a great greasy spoon cafe that do brilliant breakfasts for hardly any money down the main shopping steet by DeMonfot Hall.
- mc donalds is the cheapist but also the fattiest fast food place there is but if you dont mind paying that little bit extra go to brucianies.
- Maryland.
- After ordering a pizza and kabab from pizza palace never again it took 2 hours to arrive even after telephong numerous times meal will be there in 10 minutes (2 hours) later the kabab wasnt even cut inside the pita bread and everything just hurled onto it hardly any meat either.NEVER AGAIN .
- Pinnochio's Chippy, near wilkinsons, for a quid you get like a million chips.
- OMG - there are literally HUNDREDS - just floow the obese people and chavs.
- the kebab shop near the prison on welford road is a very beautiful place. the friendliest people, the finest homemade chilli sauce. ideal for any last suppers.
- Firefly (old Lamplighters)has a good menu and does student discount! www.barfirefly.co.uk
- Vegetarians beware! Don't order a vegetarian pizza for Pizza GoGo if you are adverse to finding pepperoni in it. It happened to me a few hours ago, and they said they'd refund me. However, they haven't turned up. In fact, if theres pepperoni in the veggie option, I wonder what they put in the meat ones?...
- Caspian Fish n chips shop, Emerson and West Cafe.
- fosse park food court has all the food places u can imagine, macdonalds, kfc pizza hut, potato bake house, and costa coffe to name a few
- JBS menu on www.leiceterontheweb.com
- subway an mcy dees
- BLUE POINT FAST FOOD is one of the best too.Wake up man!
- Mcdonalds, Burgerking, KFC, Pizza Hut, and a little one called Maryland chicken are all there. For resteraunts there is Roosters chicken, Antibos and Nandos chicken. Plus lots on Fosse park.
- yo yos mc donalds
- the kebab shop near the prison on welford road is a very beautiful place. the friendliest people, the finest homemade chilli sauce. ideal for any last suppers. and if you don't believe all the sordid tales that abound about this "£5 all you can eat!" indian restaurant, and if you are penniless/student (if you have cash and go there then shame on you, you thrifter!) then the akash on london road is highly recommended.
- Happy Family Chinese in Humberstone village - probably the best chinese takeaway in the world. - Great staff too!
- the noodle bar...its cheap..its got gorgeous chinese food and you get lots!
mmmmmm
- Antibo's for the pizzas
Ziziee for the salads
ASK for the pasta
Nando's for the chicken
Stones if you have more money than sence
Grand Hotel if you have a dinner jacket
- Nice cafe area in the centre called St Martins. Watch some of the take-aways elsewhere they can give you the shits.
- mc donalds in town
- KFC2WIN KFC2WIN
- great curry houses on belgrave road.
- i can't believe anyone would put mcdonalds on this...this is a leicester website..you can get mcdonalds anywhere in the world...and besides that, mcdonalds is crap.
- Cafe Coyote is great for Mexican food. The Shimla is the best curry Ive tasted. Im new to Leicester but i must say im really impressed by all the places to eat and hang out - a real selection!
- starbucks do good sandwches but they cost ya. swiss cottage is nice. mac donalds is mac donalds, dont know much more.
- Mac'N'tucks narbourough rd
- fat bastards
- Granby Fisheries on Granby Street. The food is cheap, it tastes delicious and they give you enough chips to knock out a small goose. The staff are good-humoured and the fishcakes have to be tried to be believed.
- The chippy next door to sainsburys when your cold, drunk and waiting for a taxi they give you a huge warming pile of chips - yum!!!
- the greek thing thats open all night where u can get buy 1 get 1 free pizza's near then end of belgrave gate - (if u have been out in leicester u know what i mean!!!!!!)
- Fat Cats is just the best place to eat and has recently been modernised (it has, however, lost a lot of its former character!)
- ALTOCO is good for reasonably priced italian food its in St. Martin's square
better than antibo's any day of the week
- New, neon-blue Ialian on Granby Street- gorgeous! Most of the Curry houses are cool, but I'd avoid the one at the top of London Road- Shamli or something.
- Bruccianis does the best baked potato & coffee good for refuelling after saturday shopping spree. The Case, Dino's and Watsons good for high quality evening meal.
- Queens chinese take-away in Clarendon Park has good food and service. I use it regularly.
- McDonalds!
- I can't believe that in a guide to Leicester no-one has included JBS on Narborough Road. They make the most fantastic kebabs in the whole world. Enormous pile of salad and meat, covered in your choice of sauces and wrapped up in a huge, delicious piece of Naan bread. You will never find a better kebab!
- For the best snacks go to Yo Yo's on the High Street
- mcdonalds in thurmaston has a nice loading bay that you can pop off but watch out
for the bold bloke who turfs you off the premises
- Marios
- OK, if you want somewhere to eat and drink where the food will be acceptable (in price and quality) and the clientel won't be dross, I recommend the following places..
They are (a) 'Bar Bruxelles' (High St) - a Belgian-style coffee/eating house which does the *best* ciabatta menu, moules, etc etc - tres continental. I recommed going during the day.
(b) 'The Fat Cat' (Belvoir St) - coffee/eating house, and very nice too, but not as nice as (a), and their salad has absolutely no dressing on it at all. Day or night is cool here.
(c) 'The Lizard Lounge' (Wellington St) - an ultra-trendy new place but extremely nice food and a lady who works there with the most fantastic tits I've ever seen. Restaurant closes at night and it becomes a 3-floor nightclub extravaganza.
(d) 'Stones' - (Mill Lane) to my mind the best restaurant I've ever been to. I heard it was recently voted the best restaurant in Leicestershire or something. Everything in Stones is great, but expect to pay about sixty quid for a decent meal for two (including a very nice 'house' red). I've only even been in the evening, but its open for lunches.
(e) 'Barceloneta' - (Queen's Road, Clarendon Park) - OK spanish tapas is never exquisite, but this is a great place to get drunk (but remain civilised) and scoff deliciously greasy and garlic-laden Spanish food. Evening (7pm+) only.
- Lloyds no1 is good for food during the day, reasonable prices and lots of room. The menu is varied and the specials change all the time.
- Sharmilee - Belgrave Rd - amazing vegetarian indian food (Gujerati think). Also good are Sayonara, Bobbies. They + many more are a stone's throw apart from each other. New veggie Indian 'cafe' at town end of Narborough Road (near Braunstone Gate). Really really cheap. Incredible Food. Can't get over how cheap it is. Go there. I forget the name.
- Fancy That tea rooms, Yoyos for jumbo sandwiches, Sayonara for thali food
- If you're looking for food, try Po-boys, it's off in a little alley by the Midlands bank. The prices are competitive and it's one of the few places in the Midlands to buy a good Chicken fajita.
- Dominos Pizza, Canton House on Welford Road and The Curry House on London Road.
- How can anybody forget TJ's? The best burger in Leicester, and for that post-BSE taste the Chicken burgers are also tops. The TJ's Special will cure any case of the munchies.
- McIndians on Belgrave Gate, or Brucciani's (various sites)? Cafe Bruxelles might be worth a try too. The Akash on London Rd has a reputation for very generous, cheap Indian food, and Chilli Night on Highcross Street was excellent when I went there last Friday.
- Joe Rigatonis in St Martins Square. I hadn't actually taken much notice of this place until I was recommended to go there by a friend. If anyone was stuck for a place for an Italian Lunch, then I'd have to recommend Rigatonis. The food is gorgeous
- Marios Chippery French Impressions Restaurant Fat Cats, Belvoir St, for that all important 'Morning after' Big Breakfast. The best anywhere...ever
- Bill: I was up seeing my girl in Leicester and for a meal she said we should try "Joe Rigatoni's". The food was well nice! (but beware the garlic bread starter... It's massive). The only thing that put me off was the moody, even rude, (eying up my girl), Italian guys serving us!!!
- Just for the record there's an excellent Thai restaurant on London Road called A Taste of Thailand. Unfortunately, it was burnt down a few weeks ago, but is due to be reopened in the near future. Well worth a visit - good food, cheap prices.
