• Ex Westcliff High- Brothers who all do brilliant stuff.... Seb and Barney Philpot are musicians who are part of The Hoosiers - saw them at IOW Festival and in Brixton. They play with big classic orchestras too. Ryan is an actor on TV, seen him in EastEnders and adverts and I see him jogging a lot on the front and Grant makes the Harry Hill Show on a Saturday but he is an artist too. All talented and lucky!!
• Mick Wilsher, New Vaudeville Band, Winchester Cathedral, lived at 33 Grand Parade. Now Lives in New Mexico USA
• I can't believe no-one has mentioned the author John Fowles, who wrote The Magus, and The Collector, The French Lieutenants Woman, amongst others. Top author, bit pretentious at times (says the bloke who has nominated him, yes, I get the irony) - but there you go; John Fowles. Go into Grindleys bookshop, or any bookshop in the world, and there he is. That's got to be a cool claim to fame for the home of The Broadway Grill, hasn't it?

• Dominic Littlewood (Tv presenter) now lives in the area (chalkwell)
• Helen Mirren was brought up here and Lee Evens lived here for a time and so does Phil Jupitus. On a more minor note....the bald bloke who does car and holiday shows is always out in Leigh (Dominic something) and that cocky bloke from the salon whose name escapes me.

• I spotted the Heinz Salad Cream girls in Leigh once. They were big in Germany as well, don't you know?
• HG Wells bought a house for is mistress, Rebecca West (a damned fine author in her own right) in Marine Parade.

• I bought Lee Evans house in Leigh (the one before he moved to Chalkwell) and live there still.
• There's a bloke who drinks in the Sarah Moore who won £125,000 on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. He also does their pub quiz on Sundays and Tuesdays. Go along and watch him in action. Pedantry is the word. He quibbles over every question and gets very cross if he doesn't get his favourite seat. The entire pub enjoy winding him up during this, and it's well worth a look at 50+ supposedly mature people getting their rocks off acting like children to a bloke who's the biggest kid of them all. Priceless.

• Adee from C4 'The Salon' runs a hairdressers called 'Strangeways'. If you want to get a decent hair cut with originality - this is the ONLY place to get one...
• Phil Jupitus has moved here, Lee Evans used to live in Chalkwell Avenue, and that guy from Stella Street (Mick Jagger) is from here.
• The Silk Society have moved to Leigh - that's right - DJ Booth, Helsinki, Lady Spaceface and Fred Westlife all sharing a gaff and having a ball. A mate of mine lives two streets away and says that local residents are murmering about "getting a petition sorted..."

• Andy Collins - cult author on the occult and inspiration for the comic book character John Constantine Hellblazer - lives in Leigh and is bit of a local legend, recognisable by long leather-coat and cool glasses David Southwell - conspiracy theories book author and broadcaster lives in Leigh as well, recognisable because he is often wearing an odd hat Ethel from EastEnders - lives in one of the roads between Leigh road and the London Road, not recognisable 'cos she looks like any other old dear Pete Beale from EastEnders - also lives in Leigh, recognisable by the fact that he looks like he has fallen on hard times and in now a taxi driver. Phil Jupitus - the most rude and over-important celeb in Leigh, recognisable by being a fat pig
• Viv Stanshall of the Bonzo Dog Do Dah band was a resident of Leigh for many years. Actress Helen 'Take my clothes off? Why certainly!' Mirren grew up in Queens Road, south of the Broadway.
• a bloke that once painted a portrait of the queen lives near chalkwell station, phil jupitius also lives nearby, as did Lee Evans
• Phil Jupitus lives in Leigh (my dad saw him in the Post Office) and the mum of Andy Bell of Erasure used to run a clothes shop on the corner of Pall Mall and Station Road. She got me and my sister some tickets to see them in concert.
