The Best Things
  • november the 5th BONFIRE NIGHT
  • The buildings. Although Lewes is a small town, you could probably spend your whole life here and still manage to discover a hidden alleyway or unusual house. Lewes is a wonderful hotchpotch of buildings from different periods and everywhere you look there something interesting to see. The people, most of whom are well-educated and interested in trying to make the world a better place. If MacDonald's tried to open here, it would probably burn down under mysterious circumstances. A large number of Lewes people support the Green Party. There is also a thriving arts scene with lots of exhibitions and concerts.
  • Must be bonfire night, no one does it like Lewes, its just brilliant!
  • The locals
  • Everything-Lewes is full of really eccentric but interesting people.
  • Bonfire Night (When it's not raining) The South Downs that surround the town The High Street The Harveys Brewery
  • bonfire night
  • the river
  • Lewes is great, I like its wide selection of "homeley" pubs, but here's a suggestion - more rides (ferris wheel, wall of death, maybe even a waltzer).
  • This hill town is very beautiful. Views from castle of downs are superb However being so small it tires quick. Cyclists!VERY steep hills. No seats currently at rail station due to re vamp accommodation limited.
  • The view up School Hill is very Dickensian, especially on November 5th.
  • About the best thing about Lewes is Harvey's Brewery and their excellent range of traditional ales (eg Tom Paine & Armada). Don't take any notice of the prat who elsewhere on this site has variously described it as 'piss' and 'crap'. No doubt that 'person' is some lager swilling moron or cretin (or both).

  • It's kinda laid-back and chilled in Lewes. Always good.
