Hi, my name is Mike Ash and I lived in Wallasey for much of the sixties. I attended WITHENSFIELD School on Manor Road
I have a photo of the prefects taken in April 1965

    Hi Mike, I attended Withensfield school from 1961 to 1965 and was a prefect there in my final year. Some of the other prefects were Teddie Oldham, John Wright and the now famous Nigel Lythgoe. I remember we had a "common room" at the top of the school. John Wright's dad, who owned a Cafe, kept us supplied with Pepsi. Which we never got around to paying for !!. I am looking for information on the Hooson family that lived in 44 Albermarle Road Seacombe. My great grandparents were living there in 1909 and their son Leonard was still living there in 1952. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

    Don't know if it's the same family but I went to school with George Hooson who lived near the hospital in Liscard. School was Eastway Primary in Moreton, and George used to get the bus each day. This would have been early 1950s until 1957. George still lived there in later years as he went to Wallasey Grammar and was a member of St John Ambulance Brigade until around 1960, but I have had no contact since then.

    Thanks for that Tony. It doesn't fit at the moment, but I will look into it. I'm sure it will fit in at a later date as there aren't that many Hooson's in Wallasey, so there must be a connection somewhere.

    Amazing how memory comes back isn't it? George had an older brother named Keith, about 2 or 3 years older. They lived near the hospital in Liscard.

    hello glenys leonard hooson was my great uncle and died in 1980 . he and his wife irene moved from wallasey sometime in the late sixties or early seventies to bethesda near bangor n wales and later to griffiths crossing near caernarvon . my great aunt died in the seventies and len died in 1980 at the age of 85 . i am researching into y family history and would appreciate any info / stories you ma... more >>

Recently at a car boot sale here in Adelaide South Australia we purchased a brandy balloon, and etched on it was St Marys Church with the date 1877 to 1977, and etched on the base Rev G.M.Yould,vicar.We have been told that there is a Liscard in merseyside, and one in Cornwall, could anyone shed some light on this? we dont know how this glass came to be here in Australia.

    There was a St Mary's Anglican Church in Liscard. According to UK Register of churches it was founded in 1877

    The 'Liscard' in Cornwall is spelt differently: LISKEARD, so the item you have is probably from Liscard, Merseyside.
