Favourite Building in Liverpool, Merseyside*
Art deco, contemporary, futuristic, tall, short...
You can tell us more about Liverpool.
Favourite Building
- The Catholic Cathedral
- Anfield. THE football stadium. Home to champions and the TRUE heart of the city of Liverpool.
- quiggins
- Quiggins
- Philharmonic Hall, Hope Street. Elegant Art Deco building designed by Herbert Rowse with original interior wall relief designs by Edmund Thompson and window etchings by Hector Whistler. Excellent acoustics and a unique rising cinema screen.
- Anglican Cathedral
- The Port of Liverpool building.
- The Liver Buildings and St Georges Hall - two of the best buildings in the world.
- I can't decide on one, The Anglican, The Metropolitan catherdral, The Liver building, the massive Stanley dock building, .......
- St Georges Hall, especially when lit up at night. Liverpool doesn't get enough credit for its architecture.
- Quigs
- Anglican Cathedral
- Quiggins! The authorities are planning to knock it down to make a big ugly shopping prescinct. Argos are in support of Quiggins, and there are petition forms to sign throughout the building. Save Our Culture!
I like StJohn's Tower aswell :p
- Georges hall
- not really a building but the Vaults, the little garden in the courtyard of the Bluecoat Chambers, is really nice and peaceful
- All of them around Duke St, Seel St, Wood St especially the ones which look they are going to fall down. The Old Cinema on Lime Street near the St Johns centre. Anglican Cathedral, Faulkner St and Hope St Georgian Buildings. St Georges Hall. Albert Dock.
- All of the Pier Head, the Albert Dock. St George's Hall. St John's Beacon (great to see it when you're coming home to Lime Street on the train). The cathedrals. The Museums on William Brown Street.
- Albert Docks & liver building
- Notre Dame High School, Mount Pleasant - Until JMU messed with it and turned it into industrial tacky inside!!!
- liver building,
- the twin towers (liverpool that is)
- St Hilda's on Ullet road-so bad its good. Oh and the lamb bananais FAB
- Anglican cathedral. I can't believe we take it for granted.
- The Ice Rink - well, until some fool demolished it!
- The Anglican Cathedral - gothic brilliance!
The view of the waterfront as seen from a ferry on way back from Ireland... bloomin gorgeous!
- the swan pub
- India building - imposing, grand, imperial, official and absolutely fab.
- Goodison Park. Ugly, old and situated in a poor area. But its my church. Other than that, The Museum, Art Gallery, JMU's old Great Western Hotel building and St. Georges Hall all deserve this accolade equally.
- St Lukes bombed out church on Hardman Street though Liverpool has ridiculously
varied architecture.
- The Grand Central building on Renshaw street its art nouveau you know!!!
- The Triad, Bootle
- Lamb bananna
- Merchant Taylors' Boys school, Crosby, at night - beautiful.
- Calderstones School. Although it has been modernised (badly)the main Quarry building is beautiful
and, hey,John Lennon went to school there. Worth a look as it is also within walking distance of Strawberry Fields
and Penny Lane.
- The Liver Buildings the first building in the world made fron steel Girders
- Speke Airport Terminal Building (Not Liverpool Airport) - Superb example of 1930s architecture. Now being restored and turned in to a Hotel. Superb.
- The Mersey Tunnel building at Pier Head. (Looks like a gigantic Egyptian Chimney).
The old ABC cinema behind Wetherspoons.
- Paddy's Wigwam - The Catholic Cathedral or possibly the Tower restaurant. Nothing as boring as The Liver Buildings
- all of the waterfront
- Classical Library and Art gallery buildings in the city centre.
- Liverpool has the greatest neo-classical architecture outside of Italy. Check out St George's Hall, the Walker Art Gallery, Central Library, the Planetarium, Liverpool Museum. Also the Bluecoat Chambers, the Cathedrals (opinion is divided), the Philharmonic Hall, countless pubs, hotels, etc.
- St.Georges Hall, descibed by a famous architect as "The world's finest building", and by Queen Victoria as "worthy of ancient Athens".
- Too many to mention - largest number of listed buildings in a city outside of London
- The glasshouse in Sefton Park, renovated or not...
- Has to be St. Georges Hall
