family emigrated on the Renfrewshire from Liverpool departing 12-10-1883 arriving Brisbane 29-01-1884. I have a copy of his ships diary.
Samuel's father was George Mayes b:abt 1830 married to Betsy b: abt 1830.
I believe his father was Samuel Mayes b:1806 Wilden – Railway Service,
I have pasted in so info I have received at the bottom of this email.
I believe the Mayes family may have originated from Lowestoft.
I am looking for any information on the family which maybe your relatives can help with.

I am so sorry, I started to reply to this yesterday but then got caught up in something else. You are so lucky to have a diary, that's wonderful.

Since they did not arrive until 1884, we should be able to find them in 1881 and beforehand. I see on FreeBMD that they married in 1875, with Matilda Emma as HAGUE. I looked up the free 1881 on the LDS website, and I see that Samuel is a 26 year old Railway Porter, born Wildon, Bedford; Matilda is 20, born Handsworth, Yorkshire. Living Brightside Bierlow, Yorkshire (I did not check the image later, to see if this was correct)

In 1871 Matilda's surname is confirmed as HAGUE - she is living in Handsworth with her parents, but she was actually born Manor.

10 year old Emma has had surgery for Scoliosis and is now campaigning to raise awareness of the condition and for all children in the UK to have the very simple 'bend forward' test to get an early diagnosis of Scoliosis. I'd like to see this figure go through the roof!!! I have a newish 9'7" longboard for sale. I bought it in Cornwall last year and have only used it three times. No dings, in excellent condition. Unfortunately I haven't had the chance to use it (living in lowestoft) and I am returning to Canada permanently in 5 weeks. The board is white and blue with hawaiin flowers on it. Its 23" X 22.7 and has a glass finish. It has a single fin, a leash and a bo ard bag. Its a beautiful board and i hate to part with it but it's too costly to bring back to canada with me. I bought the board for 450.00 so looking to sell it on for 275.00 Have any ideas what I can do with it? Know anyone who might be interested?
