Pubs in Lutterworth, Leicestershire*

The place to go for a lazy afternoon, pub quiz or last call

You can tell us more about Lutterworth.

Pubs
  • The best pub was the Hind.Great people, great music and great laughs and loads of memory. And who remembers the donar kebab van that use to be parked on the car park.Thats when lutterworth did have a little but some nightlife. And to finish the night off you would stagger up to the Whittle. If you got in.Some good memories
  • Lutterworth has changed so much,Hind Hotel. Denbigh, Cavalier, Whittle all gone! Big improvement All responsible pubs now in Pubwatch scheme,The SHambles,Koggys, The Fox, The Whittle(formerly the Balloon)and the Unicorn. No fresh faced anymore in these pubs.
  • the elms public house
  • Koggys is the best place in Lutterworth to powder ones nose in the toilet. Its quite un-abbashed. Also the most obvious place to 'pick up from'.
  • The fox inn by the edge of town had a nice beer garden, with a quite corner! ;o) Also looks like they do BBQs there, think it maybe a rare occasion as I was there on a very sunny day when an england match was on TV and no sign of it being lit up. The pub behind Safeway’s where they use the car park as a beer garden. Totally dump with with p*** all over the ladies toilet floors in the afternoon! The Shambles another car park bee garden, looked as rough as 10 bears – didn’t even bother…
  • The only pub to choose in Lutterworth is Koggys, now owned and ran by long time regular Keith Richmond. Even though he wears skinny ribbed vests, and ludicrously ripped jeans - he's alright once you have got to know him and is regularly found propping up his own bar whilst wasted on copius amounts of Vodka and Redbull. He has, however, done his homework and realised good looking bar people (except him) make this little establishment more appealing to the masses - with Thursday, Friday and Saturday always pulling in a youthful and exuberant crowd. Enjoy.
  • YOU CAN STILL CATCH THE OLD SLAG TINA HILL KNOCKING ABOUT IN THE PUBS IN HER POUNDSTRETCHER CLOTHES, TRYING TO PULL MEN, BUT SHE LOOKS LIKE THE BACK END OF A BUS
  • Old school no q's the HIND with tom and kate magic times and people you never thought you would meet alway's good to find a laugh and real mates.new school KOGGY'S the new hind but deos'nt have that same homely smell and not as dark.Once ran by steve now ran by keith always a friendly place almost like cheers good luck son! shambles loads better since revamp (good move) unicorn (how old).the new elm's like it good addition.cavaleir visit on a pub crawl.elixiar welcome to the hotel room with a mini bar.fox good beer garden nice pint
  • Lutterworth is full of Chavs! Shambles and Exlir suck come to happy London for a good night out!
  • The Cav, The Fox, Koggies then The Bells. In that order. You can usually see a fight outside The Bells on a Friday just after closing.
  • oooooooooh, where do i start? well this being the end of 2004 there are a few and i cant really add to what has already been said but i'll try! koggys is now full of "i wanna be famous/trendy" types who can give the best bitchy looks in the world ever!!! (generally ppl who were "popular" at the grammar school never really grow out of going to koggys, so very very sad when ppl who are old enough to know better still try and look down at u from their dead end lives! ;) ) it has a naff pool table and is too small but hey, it has good beer...the shambles has had a recent refit (again) and is all cream n horrible carpet (all the more reason to drop that fag on the floor!) fresh faced crowd again but it also has a bit of a late licence (open till 12?) unfortunately no pool table any more! instead there is a kareoke nite every now n again! yay! and now there is "the vaults" just next door/under the greyhound, could have been so good but again, is just too small! and elixir? dont make me laugh! and as for the cavalier? havent been in there since i was skiving the grammar school (in the second year of sixth form!)! dunno whether it has changed but not really willing to find out!! too many of them young whippersnapper/scrotes! and as for the others, (apart from the fox) you have to be abouve a certain age or below a certain IQ to order a drink(the fox has some cool/nickable motorsport stuff in it!)
  • the Cav's an excellent establishment for costumers sporting school atire guaranteed a pint
  • The Arrow has changed hand's now - so officially "LUTTERWORTH NOW HAS NO DECENT PUBS".
  • Has the woman who runs the greyhound pub stopped moaning about her bunions yet? On the last 6 occasions its put me off my food.........speaking of food the poor waitress that works at lunchtime gets a regular ear bashing from her when she cocks up the orders, mind you she's not alone her husband does as well. Food okay.
  • as 4 pubs in lutt u hav sum which hav been there since the earth was born ( unicorn ect )but there ok 4 the oldies realy . the red arrow is ok 4 a good game of pool , koggies is good on a friday nite or a footy nite, ilixia ( e20 ) is ok about 10.30 on a fridaynite after koggies then u got the shamble which has got better bcuz its open till 12 now . then u got the greyhound always good 2 finish the nite off . thats it uv got 4 pubs there every other 1 is well worth avoidin if ur between 17 and 50 , but bring bak the WHITTLE PLEASE !!!
  • The Greyhound:- No Fresh faced youths around here any more the old dog hath bitten back closing time is closin time even to the owners son. The Vaults Bistro/sports bar/youth club/ disco cellar is now a storage room for the crap of the so called man in charge.
  • shambles, greyhound, koggys, cavalier, unicorn, the red arrow, the balloon, the fox, the Denbigh
  • the shambles is fondly remembered as being the place to go when you really shouldnt be drinking! good starting point i guss for the years of adult drinking ahead!
  • Koggy's is the pub which is usually full of the youg un's and the sambles although most of the young ones tend to g to Rugby or Leicester.. best place for a quite drink is the cavalier.. although the atmosphere can be a bit dull. Usually full of the locals
  • The balloon, now under new management and is a gr8 pub come in and see the new owners very friendly indeed. come and give them a try its a gr8 atmosthere
  • The Unicorn - pub of ex-champions. This is where you go to learn to drink kiddies. Sod the 13yr olds down the Cav, this is where the hardcore pissheads reside. Andy is running for "barman of the year award". Cheap too. Noone pesters you there and no dodgy townies to piss you off. Recommended.
  • Cavalier, Koggy's
  • The pubs are awful, for a nice night out you have to go at least as far as Bitteswell. This could be due to the fact that there is nothing else to do here, but don't we deserve a decent pub?
  • the cavalier is full of kids
  • SHAMBLES UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT AGAIN!!! THIS TIME A YOUNG GLASWEIGAN LASS AND HER BLOKE WHO SEEMS TO BE 10 TIMES OLDER (AND NOT SO WISE) WITH THE PROMISE OF LIVE BANDS, TOP BAR STAFF (MOST OF THE TIME)AND THE EVER SO PRESENT CHED,OZ,IVAN,JOHN (THE DODGY SPANISH WAITER)ALBONE,MOUSE NOT FORGETTING GOOD OLD JAMIE CARLTON AFTER HIS BRIEF TIME IN SPAIN....AHHH BLESS!
  • NO STOP IT WOT BOUT NASATY FACTORIES KYLEIGHS
  • New Bar Elixer A.K.A E20 from Eastenders! With Billy Mitchell behind the bar and old retro 90's trance bumping out full blast. Not a place to meet any one as no words can be heard over the distoughted speakers. A place not to socialize.
  • The new bar, the mighty elixer A.K.A E20. With the 'threatening' Billy Mitchell pulling the pints and a portable walk-man blasting out 1990's trance music at its best. It's everything you hate about leicester all under one roof. (the centre parcs of bars)Not a place to meet any body as nothing can be heard! God help you if you need the toilet because its one in one out. The old Shambles crew have moved in, tattoo's, piercings and adiddas joggers. Although a superb £1 a shot saturdays brings its credibility back from the dead.
  • ThE Whittle on a Friday & Saturday where all the yokels would fight with their best mate on a friday make up saturday and fight again saturday night duh huh!!
  • koggies, shambles etc all tacky if u ask me
  • DONT GO TO THE UNICORN COZ YOU WILL GET EATEN BY FALSE TEETH!!. KOGGYS,SHAMBLES,THE CAV,GREYHOUND IS GOOD FOR A LATE ONE,BAR ELIXER THATS ABOUT IT IN THE CENTRE OF TOMN
  • Koggys Bar: Be warned to those visiting this place, the two faced, lazy arsed manager Raggy is known for his trade in customers clothing. If you leave any clothes in the bar, don't return to get them, even if it's only a day later, for it's sure Raggy will have sold it....He does a nice trade in stolen lost property....But then again, everytime theres a fight, he's seen to run a mile.....and I'm sure he does'nt know about all the dope smoking?????? So beware of the small, two faced bar manager.....and don't trust him with anything, especially not gossip!!!

  • 2002 Update: Aha, Lutterworth at least has progress on this front, The Shambles is sporting another landlord (well the last one was killed after all,) be sure to pick up the latest copy of the Shambles newsletter (honestly!!) Don't forget to visit Bar Elixir (behind pizzaman), Lutterworth's first new contemporary music bar I'm told....Shame it's not big enough to capacitate swinging the average small cat, the music is terrible (baby d is soooo 1990's), and it has the overall impression of Krystals circa 1995....nice try, but really best avoided I'm afraid but if you go, make sure you don't fall arse over tit as you go to the loo....
  • Lutterworth has about 11 or 12 pubs accessible to all (discluding the Legion and WMC), most are centralised with a few on the outskirts (Arrow, Balloon and the Bitteswell pubs). All are pretty much local pubs, which means the music stops with a scratch when u enter (even if that have a CD player - wierd!!) and the pool balls stop rolling! Koggy's used to be a refuge where u could drink unnoticed in a freindly atmosphere - but a few locals who want to get in with the cool crowd soon put paid to that. Even if u have just walked out of any pub for a brief second, you still get scrutinised on re-entry. The Fox is generally OK for a quiet beer as most of the dummies in the town have forgotten it exists. It would be ideal but the landlord lacks social skills!
  • Shamble now that is a shambles the cav! I like it there!
  • Horrific - stupid people in Ben Sherman Shirts being complete wankers.
  • Yet another alarming colour change at Koggy's - I think they're trying to confuse the punters. Still the best place to drink in Lutterworth, but throughout the summer it becomes a Grammar School reunion for those who have managed to escape to uni... and all those little "fresh faced" Hooch suppin' lad snoggin' pre-Krystals (sorry, whatever its called now) types who really ought to stick to the Memorial Garden.
  • ok, time for an annual update. March 2001 and the shambles has recently undergone another refit, now displaying new dodgy `straight out of a hotel room' wallpaper, and the walls have been painted a shade of cappucino brown which serves only to hide nicotine staining and make the place seem even dingier. It's now being managed by Cath, wife of the late Pete Ford - who was a great bloke i'd like to say. Koggy's continues to be the best place to go for a drink in Lutterworth. The greyhound has not changed whatsoever, although the drinks are still perhaps the most expensive in Lutterworth. The Red Arrow has become a popular location for a summer drink, whereas no-one ever goes to the club or the denbigh. The unicorn also remains stuck in the 1950's.
  • The Shambles - Teenage drinking den, full of Sixth Formers debating whether or not they can handle a thrid pint or not.

The Hind - Dirty hole, full on teenagers without the class to be let into the shambles

Coggis - Full of rugby player types
  • SHambles and Koggys both attract a 'fresh faced'crowd, but the others are full of old men and slags, mostly. I recently found out that the Unicorn (old man pub) is not only the cheapest, but does loads of vegan/vegearian food... can't be bad.
  • cavalier now known as the byker grove, Koggys good place but same fucking faces 6 different groups every week. Shambles less said the better
  • I vomitted in the(stil there)teapot on the shelf of the Royal Oak.Every year it was a rite of passage.Usually after getting off with a bird with a broomstick and warts(oh,sorry that could be just about bleedin' any bird in the vacinity)
  • If i lived in the 17th century my local would have been "The Sarisan".
  • IF WERE NOT FOR THESE LITTLE HAVENS LUTTERWORTH WOULD HAVE COME TO A GRINDING HALT AND DISSAPPEARED UP ITS OWN ARSE MANY MOONS AGO.NO ONE PUB IS THE BEST OR WORST BUT DO AVOID THE UNICORN IF YOU AND YOUR MATES HAVE A COMBINED AGE OF LESS THAN 900
  • The Baloon no longer serve Indian food. The new landlord threw the Sunar Gow out and started doing his own Indian Cuisine. This appeared a great success and was good and cheap. However he has now stopped doing this and serves boring old pub food instead. Still got the big telly though and the pool tables are now 50p.
  • The Hind Should open again soooooon!!!! looks better and better - let's hope it's going to be a great venue, better thatn the 'dive' it used to be.
  • The Unicorn - The place to go to be thrashed at dominoes by some old farmer. Worth a visit if only to admire the Double Diamond ashtrays, and attractive nicotine stained decor. The Fox - Don't know, does anyone ever actually go there? The Legion - Tucked away oppositte the Greyhound, really not recommended The Lutterworth Club - Same as the Legion The Cavalier - Full of Eric Cantona lookalikes and a tribe of locals with no chin.
  • Updates: Koggys Bar; Now sporting a total revamp, it used to feel like you were drinking in your own front lounge, but since the recent revamp, now feels like your sitting a Dulux pain showroom, with every wall a different colour, and Koggy just went to IKEA to buy all his pictures and mirrors. It's appalling. Although they do sell BUDVAR, a real highlight is the fact that Owen Williams still drinks there., (it's the only bar in Lutterworth thats too scared to bar him) Really cant see any similarity between Koggys and a club, obviously someone has yet to escape the magical attractions of Lutterworth similarity with a club, just a poxy bar sell Budvar, The Shambles, Under new management again, not worth drinking here unless you are under the age of twenty or over the age of 45. But at least theres still Betty propping up the end of the bar, oh and theyve installed a pool table into the old snug. It's still funny to watch the little boys behind the bar run at the sight of any violent trouble. The Hind, Purchased by Ned Van Allen (the guy who rebuilt the shambles from a derelict building). Its being completely rebuilt and refurbished, rumour has it it may feature the first actual nightclub in Lutterworth. Due to open late in the year 2000 Red Arrow, Also recently sporting a light refurbishment, this place still seems half empty these days, although the new signs are rather nice....
  • There's no mention of about the best bar in lutterworth on here, Koggy's. Usually you can find quite a few nice women in there somewhere, especially in the summer, in the little beer garden. Go there on a friday night and see the up and coming women from LGS and have a few before going to the Dog til late. A good crack and the landlord's wife's nice too. Play pool and go to the smallest toilet in England, at least it's better than the dive that is the shambles where you don't even get a full pint, and where the barmaids are minging!
  • Outdated information...Sir Frank Whittle now demolished to make way for Richardsons Peugeot garage which relocated due to a Safeway supermarket. The Hind has now closed and the local brothal has been raided...not bad for a small market town ! Oh yeah..The Denby should read The Denbigh Hotel, other than that it's the same shit, different day !
  • At time of writing, The Hind is boarded up and growing vegetation from its gutters.
  • The Balloon:situated on Greenacres Drive estate it has amazing facilities for you serious drinker/eater on a Friday or Saturday night binge. Best pool tables in Lutterworth and cheapest as well at only 40p. Serves Banks and Pedigree bitters, Harp Irish and Grolsch lagers and Scrumpy Jack. Various alcopops as well. The only pub in Lutterworth with a 6 foot by 6 foot screen for your must watch footie games. Added new feature in the pub, Indian Food...The Sunar Gow has gone into partnership here and its cheaper than the restaurant. Go on...give the Balloon and try and be suprised.
  • The sir Frank Whittle Closed, Knocked down and a Peugeot garage built on the site - please note that the clientel should still be avoided. The Hind Closed down in the Summer of 1997
