• Maesteg Library is appallingly bad for obtaining essential books for GCSE, A-Level, and degree studies. The staff are particularly unhelpful, and question the books you order as unimportant. It's about time they realised that a large proportion of Maesteg pupils go on to study at University and therefore their back catalogue should either be extended or they should be prepared to order in books, without the attendant sarcasm.

• Look, I'd just like to say to anyone fancying coming to Maesteg, that it's a rather tidy sort of place, really, no matter what you've heard about it (and don't bother with all the 'cultural capital of the world' jokes)

• Not really worth travelling to unless you're in the area. It can't be that bad (I've been skating here five and a half years). Car park is best feature. BUT:
  Also the main car park has now been almost totally closed off so that a new superstore can be built. The Maesteg Seven's Rugby Club car park is now used as an overflow car park. (It's no good for skateboarding - gravel surface).
• Maesteg Library: this is worth a visit (just down the lane, around the corner from the Post Office). The very accommodating librarian, Mr John Robinson, and his glamorous assistants (Alice, Jane, Ruth, Margaret, Cynthia) will attend to your every need (Maesteg folk are known for their hospitality). Mind the door when you go in - it has been known to fall off its hinges.
• Pay a visit to LLangynwyd village if you want to add a bit of historical value to your trip. This is the place where you will find the grave of Ann Thomas and her lover Wil Hopcyn, made famous by the tale of the Maid of Cefn Ydfa and the ballad Begeilio'r Gwenith Gwyn. If you happen to be in the area at new year you will see the mari llwyd (grey mare) an old Welsh custom still carried out here each new years day.
• There is a very good Men's Contact Society at Central Church on Friday winter evenings at 7:30 where you'll have an opportunity to listen to lectures of a high standard on a variety of subjects. Some of them given by university lecturers. This fine society has been in existence for 48 years
