The place to go for a lazy afternoon, pub quiz or last call
You can tell us more about March.
Pubs
- The Griffin is the best place to go in March,it was recently revamped and is a great place to have a few drinks. The Acre is a lovely riverside pub which also sells pub food so is best to go there at a lunch time
- Most seem to be shutting down! The Griffin is being renovated into a Barracuda bar, and I hear whetherspoons are keen to come to town. Most pubs in town are ok, but I`d avoid the coachmakers, ship and red lion.
- Is it true there is a pub in March that has a sign saying "No English"? The landlord is Polish or East European and refuses to speak English! Hard to believe. Is it true?
- The Ship is the place to be on a Saturday night, just show your silver tanker at the door for a free snog off the barmaid
- Rose and Crown ST PETERS ROAD - now changed hands a little more up to date friendly staff, good choice of real ales.
Stars WIMBLINGTON ROAD- Good for food and occasional live music - a bit out of town though.
King William THE HIGH STREET - recently taken over and decorated nicely, normally trouble free, good food.
The Cock Inn. THE HIGH STREET - Friendly, great bar staff, reasonably priced beer, various entertainment inc. karaoke, live music and fundraisers. March Rangers Football Club Meets here and a Sunday morning pub team. Client base mostly 18's to late 20's but lots of couples and families who love the friendly atmosphere. Garden great in the summer with play area.
The George THE HIGH STREET - Good food, and the best for a quiet drink very nice owners.
Bar 23 - WISBECH ROAD - More expensive and a bit out of town but lovely interior with function room available and very nice food.
The White Horse Tavern - HAS BEEN CLOSED FOR A LONG TIME.
The Acre - Some good live music, i wouldnt eat here but good if looking for sociable and busy.
- The Stars is my local the staff are fantastic, they do some great tasting food, real ale and will even serve you coffee if you so wished..have just started band nights and the occational BBQ. Cheaper than most pubs in march.
The Acre although a good pub for the staff has a weird atmosphere and i have been known to wait 1hr for some food on a wed night. Very expensive. £7 for 2 drinks i dont think so.
- The Rose and crown is now under new management and will be opening up again within the next 2 to 3 weeks..... double B&B rooms available
- The Acre has a good mix of drinkers, from young to old, posh to chavvy. It seems to work for them and is a good place to start the night. Definitely a summer pub.
Other good pubs/bars in town are cassanos, the griffin, the george and the cock. If you can walk a bit, try the stars or bar 23. Avoid the ship, red lion, coachmakers and exchange as these can be quite rough. Get your act together!
- The cock inn is a good place! need to kick the kids out tho! great atmosphere good music, MIND THE GAP & LEON!!! cassanos is a good place to have a drink. you'll always know someone in there! hold some good parties but still watch out for the cow behind the bar!!!
- The Acre is by far the best all-round pub that welcomes all ages. It`s generally a summer pub and has a huge beer garden. I`d also recommend Cassanos,
the George, the Cock, Griffin and Bar23 on the outskirts of town.
- the COCK INN is the place to be. staff are leg-ends! really great atmosphere and different entertainment all the time!
- NO MINORS IN HERE BUT A WARM AND FRIENDLY WELCOME TO MAINLY 30'S TO 60'S GOOD RANGE OF REAL ALES AND LAGERS
- Hammer and Anvil have cracking live music!!
- The acre, chinese's
- I've painted, and drunk in most of them, starting when I was about 14....
- The white horse was brilliant. However, some business genius managed to run the best pub in the best location in town into the ground. It's now boarded up and waiting to be the venue for Fenland's number 1 participation sport (after fighting), arson.
- The White Horse in West End, named as the best pub in March, is now closed.
- The White Horse, West End, March has now closed. It's all boarded up and has (apparently) been bought by a property developer.
- Coachmakers Arms has changed hands and does not have the same atmosphere anymore. Don't think the lock-ins happen, or at least not like they used to.
- Best bets are (in no particular order) The Acre, The Stars, The Exchange, The George (looks dodgy on the outside, but pleasant bear garden to rear), The King William and The Cock. Go to the Griffin if you're rich (and/or a ponce)
- The Stars is great for everyone (probably too far out of town for most). The Rose and Crown is a great beer pub, the Cock is improving, the Exchange plays live sport on many screens and is popular, the Griffin is packed between 10 and 11 most Friday and Saturday nights and acts as foreplay before everyone goes to Minstrelz. The Cricket Club in Burrowmoor Road also serves great beer.
- For a decent pub crawl, start at the Acre (Fairly quiet) then go to the Exchange, Red Lion & The Griffin. The Stars is good if you can get a taxi. Minstrelz or March Snooker Club go on until 2am.
- If you want to fight then get along to the Red Lion or The Exchange which is on the market place. For a quieter evening you might want to try the White Horse. If its atmosphere your looking for then check out the Coachmakers arms who usually have lockins.Aviod the Cock and the George at all costs, especially if your on your own.
- best pub in town has to be hands down the white horse tavern, in the west end
