The Knowhere Guide

The Best Things in Marlow, Buckinghamshire*

If you're around, be sure to check these things out

You can tell us more about Marlow.

The Best Things
  • the regatta
  • There's something about Marlow that grabs you and stays with you. It's pretty, interesting, and is much friendlier and more laid back than other places nearby (ahem, Henley)
  • Bookshop. A dying breed of independant bookshop, but it is excelent for its low ceiling and excelent employees (well most of them anyway)
  • The river and the spooky woods up round Marlow Common, Sleepy Hollow was filmed round there!
  • Much better than the surrounding towns. Malow is quite up market, but remains a lovely Thameside town with atleast some down to earth folk. Henley is full of posh ponces who need to get out more, Beaconsifled is the same only worse... full to the brim with ANNOYING commuters, Maidenhead is in the main ugly with no particularly interesting buildings and sad middle class kids trying to rebel and use all the money mummy and daddy give them to get drugged up, Wycombe is a declined northern industrial town mis-placed in Buckinghamshire which is only worth visiting if you are in short supply or drugs or feel the need to be mugged, and Slough..... don't even need to say anything about that place, the name speaks for itself!
  • The river. The regatta in June.
  • Safe, quiet, clean. Nice park, the river, the pub gardens in the summer, loads of places to socialise.
  • The river thames - Beautiful.
  • The Regatta is THE best thing. Even though a precursor to Henley Royal Regatta, Marlow Regatta is just one big garden party where you can witness that Marlow has by the far the best looking, and dressed, girls in Bucks (hell, the South!). Generally, if you've been there a while it's still a small enough place where everyone knows everyone; and there are people who actually care about things that don't just affect themselves; a quality lacking all to much these days.
  • the safeness of the streets at night, and the last train from maidenhead to marlow
  • The alleys ways and woods
  • The best things about marlow are probably it's pubs. Not in short supply either, there's 27 to be precise. Not a bad figure. The Birds are always looking fine as hell in Marlow, but they're normally attached to some tosser with a bimma!
  • Lovely area, especially down by the River Near to London. Great night atmosphere in the Summer when everyone can stand / sit outside the pubs.
  • Pubs, people, Regatta, growing up ther. Still snmall enough for a coimmunity spirit
  • Nice and safe area Loads of skateboarders, loads. Hundreds of pubs
