Pubs in Marlow, Buckinghamshire*

The place to go for a lazy afternoon, pub quiz or last call

You can tell us more about Marlow.

Pubs
  • All pubs in Marlow have improved in Marlow in recent years - none more than the Crown, which I could not have been paid to enter last year. It is now the Market and is a classier establishment with a much nicer atmosphere..shame about the naff "VIP" room upstairs though. Red Lion is good on weekends, as is the Chequers (if you can stand the crowds and instense heat!). Claytons Lounge is great for tapas and jazzy/laid back/funky music
  • just to let you know that the cross keys has been taken over by new management and has now been transformed from the grubby little place it used to be and is currently in refurb i suggest you make your way down there for another look at the beginning of march to see the change thank you very much daniel mckay
  • Marlow Donkey is like a ghost town so you can actually get served AND get a seat without having to remove it from the rear end of a chav. Plus they have sky AND a pool/snooker table.
  • Claytons Lounge - DJ's every night Thurs - Sun, Open til Midnight Thurs, 1am Fri and Sat. Fantastic bar staff always having a laugh and the music is fanatstic, a real mixture of good tunes!
  • was a lot more cosey when there were 32 pubs and wethereds smelled of sour mashed potatoes, there were only 3000 living there and every one knew more than necessary of everyone,'corsethe beemers were run out of gerards cross by the high cost of dirty martinis, and found a lower rent district in marlow bottom.
  • The Chequers on a Saturday night. The atmosphere is really cool, and the shots they serve are wicked!! The DJ plays a whole host of stuff - the evening starts with some hip 70's, followed by a bit (but not much) of cheesey 80's, followed by euphoric House!!! Dodgy combo, but a bloody good night out!!
  • Tons but they are being turned slowly but surely into wine bars. Red Lion has just re-opened as a wine bar/pizza parlour that still shows footie and attracts a lot of the same crowd as before. Give it a miss. Real pubs are thinning on the ground but there are still a few: Carpenters Arms (for how long though?), Marlow Donkey (refurbished last yr), Coach & Horse, Ship. Claytons is quite nice too. In a wine bar sort of way.
  • the crowna and ancher in marlow closed at the bigining of the summer and is now a b&b but still owned by the trumans.
  • George And Dragon in the Summer is a must. Outside, on the green, in blazing sunshine.
  • The Red Lion is quality, The Cross Keys is a dump avoid like the plague!!
  • hogshead and the red lion, quids in on a monday night during holidays at the lion is always a bonus
  • Hogs Head - good value and a real buzz Claytons Wine Bar - better in the summer - sit outside drinking eating Tapas
  • The Crown and Anchor - a most gratifiying place to spend an afternoon. This pub is the brewery tap for Sam Truman Ales brewed just down the road in Meddenham. Their best bitter (Jan 2000) retailed at a vey resonable £140 a pint. They also intend to have brewing demonstrations soon. Very friendly landlord(s).
  • Marlow is cool because of the Crown and Anchor in Oxford Road. The people that own this particular beer house are top friendly - there's a pig called Well 'Ard who lives in the back, there's a garden, a paddling pool, a pool table and they sell a good pint of Stella? What more could a person want?
  • Ten Million approx, something for everyone. Have a wander up and down the High St and you're sure to find one to suit.
  • The Compleat Angler is a charming, romantic pub/hotel/restaurant right on the river. Go across the bridge and it's there. Popular for honeymoons -- several of my friends were conceived there!
