• Update: The Harbour Lights is now a complex of expensive apartments, so it's too late to save it, I'm afraid. The arty cafe where Bourne's used to be is open and brilliant, and there are numerous excellent restaurants in Meva thesedays - The Haven, Salamander, The Harbour Tavern (which has just been refurbished) to name but a few. Also an amusing quote from a Mevagissey lass who wrote to John Wesley in 1750 asking him to come and preach in the village: "Sir, if at any time you be nigh unto Mevagissie, I shd. esteem it a great favour if you wd. come and preach to the people, for in this town, there is much licence and drunkenness. The souls of the people cry out for a lead away from their sin, but the Church gives it not to them. Therefore, like sheep without a shepherd, they stray from the true ways of Godliness, and are in great need of Salvation." Well not a lot has changed even though he did come and preach here!!

• Anyone ever noticed how you keep getting pulled back to a village you never thought you liked for years. I live 250+ miles have a packed socail life and still pine to return to a place that is quaint and laid back in the day, and good value buzzing in the nights. Yes there are no nightclubs but for pubs and the sea it can't be beaten.
