• Kenneth Haigh Actor - Joe Lampton in Room at the Top, He played the central role of Jimmy Porter in the very first production of John Osborne's seminal play Look Back in Anger in 1956.
• Walter (Cocky) Bennet--lived on West Street or Shelley Street--still alive or recently deceased, not sure which as I have not been back to Mexboro for 3 or four years. He played for Barnsley and later. Doncaster Rovers.

• Syd Breeze (1903 - 1986) Top UK professional boxer in the 20's when 20*3min rounds was the norm. Fought at top venues like "Blackfriars" London. He went on to promote boxing shows in Mexborough area and founded and ran Mexborough Atletic Boxing club for many years.

The great Goalkeeper Daniel Jenkinson known as(Donkey Konga) lol used to be in Sheffield United Acadamy but they told he was too small and overwieght that couldnt keep him. • Nutty Ethel was really known as "Mucky Ethel" She lived in Albert Road not Pym Road above Chappel's paper shop. Not only did she wear odd slippers but had wrinkly stockings long before Nora Batty.

• Brain Blessed, although a Bolton lad, lived much of his life on Alexandra Road and did a great job in Flash Gordon, Keith Barron (the one from Duty Free who was married to the woman with the very pale fat legs)

• OK - So Brian Blessed didn't exactly come from Mexborough - but he first trod the boards at the Mexborough "Green Room" ADS.
• Dennis Priestley, the darts player, can be seen honing his skills in any of the local pubs. Will quite happily fleece you if you don't know him. Paul Shane (from Hi-de-hi) can be seen propping up the bar at some pub in Denaby. Jo-jo Irwin learnt his trade in the corner pocket.
• The home town of actor Brian Blessed.
• Brian Blessed is not from Mexborough (I wish he was - fine actor), but from Bolton, which is on the out skirts of Mexborough.
• But Hazel O'Conner used to work in the chip shop opposite the Star Hotel, before somebody told her she could croak.
• There is one famous celebrity that does come from Mexborough, a guy who inspired the famous Crocodile Dundee movies - None other than myself - Mick Earnshaw from Mexborough - does not quite have the same ring to it as Mick Dundee from Australia, but there you go!!!
