  • Police Station (though now it's only part-time) (a government brain-wave since crime is on the increase due to mount of smack-heads migrating to Mexborough from surrounding Doncaster-area cess-pits).If it weren't for the woefully under-manned local constabulary, we'd be living in anarchy now. God bless em.Vote next time for whoever promises (then doesn't provide...) extra policing. Then again...why vote? It got me no-where.

  • Any pub.
  • Mexborough is a goldmine of historical edifices - A goldmine that has collapsed and buried its treasures that is. There was the Roman settlement that houses the new Ben Baileys homes, hence the name Roman Terrace. There was the Stately home up near Thryberg (Mexborough Parks). This was used in the second world war to house Italien POW's, but was burnt down, leaving the huge gatehouse and stables (recently renovated as houses). There was the Manor house that was knocked down to build a canal. A Wealth of traditional houses were lost by adding a by-pass and a crap shopping complex. A load of old houses were knocked down near Clayfield to build a quarry. A power station was knocked down to make way for what everyone thought to be a long awaited leisure centre. 20 years or so later, it is still derelict. A wooden fort was based at castle hills, but this has gone too!
  • Denaby Main post office on a giro day!.. (beer cheque) :oP
  • Coltran. Anyone remember those roof dives into the canal? We were young and foolish but it was fun.
  • The job centre. The most expensive storage facility imaginable for one piece of cardboard (Job vacancy: Toilet cleaner)
  • That's hard - Mexborough doesn't really have any beautiful buildings - but I'd go for the old school at the top of the hill, cuirrently half demolished and half mis-treated by a sewing factory. My mum went to school there. It has a feel of ragged children - urchins, running around and developing while the town was a coal mining community. Probably be pulled down soon.
