  • getting stoned
  • nothing !!
  • gilzens the bongo lava ignite thess places are fukking mint
  • It's rated as the worst place to live in England, and consequently nobody wants to live here. Fewer traffic jams for us!
  • From someone who actually has a clue!!!! I have lived and worked in both Middlesbrough and London and abroad. The majority of people in the Boro are good decent northerners. We work hard, play hard and love our families. Yes there is smog, but guess what that happens when you live in a town that was built around industry! We have a history of grafters up here men who know how to work hard and dont need to pretend to be something they are not. We are a friendly bunch with a real sense of community, something there is not in London unless you wish to enter into some of the ghetto's they call estates. There are rough places here, yes there are townies and trust me we take the piss out of them as much as the southerners. But have we forgotten London has its own freaks and weirdo's in abundance, a trip to Kings cross will undoubtedly remind you southerns of this. We don't all live in Mayfair, we were born up here and choose to stay here. We are happy. If you don't like it, go home! One thing sums up the north south divide for me; I had travelled around HongKong for a month after my A-Levels (yes some of us smoggies have actually been out of the boundaries of Boro and still returned) after a 13 hours journey home, a huge suitcase, several bags of pressies for my mates and family, I was pushed, shoved, generally made to feel like an inconvenience for being in the way in rush hour as I tried to get to Kings cross from the airport. Men and women watched me pull my suitcase obviously struggling, up the staircase, through the tube barriers. I thought I was an Alien the way they stared, not even a chance they were going to help, in fact this has not even crossed their minds!!!! Eventually I got on the train to Darlo, calmed down after my traumatic journey. As the train pulled in a lad offered to carry my suitcase of the train for me and as soon as I stepped off another gentleman said "here r I'll get that for ya love." - I felt so happy to be home I almost cried! We don't all speak the queens English we don't have many truely magnificent buildings, there are some tracksuit wearing wanna be gangsters, but lets not pretend anywhere else doesn't. What we do have though is honest friendly people, and you can go anywhere in the world but you can't bottle that!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Friendly people....but...don't know if I'm in the correct little box here - to the people who are posting bad, bad things about Middlesbrough; if its so bad what the hell are you still doing here - oh yes, thats why, our Uni is the only one sympathetic enough to give you bunch of wet behind the ears tosspots the opportunity to say 'I'm at Uni' and feel all big about it - lesson to be learnt - come back and tell us what you've done with your life in 10 years time - sweet F.A. would be my guess in most cases. 2 pieces of advice - get a life but above all GET A JOB.
  • EVERY1 (well most ppl) IS UP 4 GETTIN REKD N HAVIN A GD LAFF!
  • Seeing Middlesbrough in rear view mirror
  • The northern atmosphere.
  • The Fish Shop Next to Early learning centre (Dundas). Very cheap and really nice food. Try moving south where there dont even know what a pattie is and the food is so expensive. The amount of cheap shops in the town. After living in the south for nearly 4 years its very easy to miss them as everything is so expensive in the south. Its eaten up by chain shops whereas the Boro has plenty of local business's
  • how many places do tou know in this country where 10 minuted in either direction you can be in the town centre shopping (our shopping isn't bad!), in the countryside (roseberry topping!), or on the coast? My husband and I have been thinking about going to live in Grand Cayman, but honestly, who could leave this wonderful place?!
  • everything i fuckin love it GROVE HILL RULEZ
  • everything ive lived in boro all my life n i love it i wouldnt change it for the world !!! GROVE HILL RULEZ !!!
  • JOURNEY SOUTH ARE FROM COULBY!!!!!! BEAT THAT!!!
  • The Cleveland pub in Linthorpe village. The cheeky barmaid me me who has a chea stash of vodka out the back.
  • fuck all its shit i wouldnt live there if i was paid its a shit hole the bus stations need pulling down and the rest!!!
  • newport settlement ppl are class!!!
  • newport settlement ycc the pace is wkd, staff are cool - love it!!!
  • loads of green spaces, easy access to coast and realy great countryside etc. Good indie scene, new bands just before they make it. Music live held once a year free event loads of bands play over one day.
  • Im a Boro lass born & bred!! I am proud to be from Boro, every1 is down to earth, and up for a laugh. Yeh you get knob heads, but so does everywehere else in England. Middlesbrough has a bad name 4 itself, when ya go on holiday n sum 1 asks u were ya from n ya say boro they go "ooohhhh" They wana get grip, i wudnt wanna live anywhere else, y go down south when all they do is slag the north east off? (plus ya wudnt get a parmo anywhere else) - i cudnt cope after a nite out haha
  • Some really nice people. I kid you not. Pity about some of the places.
  • The Shops
  • It's tragically funny to watch Middlesbrough try and develop itself as a respectable town.
  • Middlesbrough FC, The Nightclubs.
  • An enterprising series of higher and further education institutions, allied to a potent 'regeneration' drive. Blade Runner-esque remnants of the industrial heartland, as well as the singular Transporter Bridge. Spectra-txt and Bottle of Notes render Middlesbrough something of a hotspot for public artwork. Never one to forget its industrial and naval legacies - a mini-me HM Bark Endeavour hangs aloft in the Cleveland Centre.
  • Boro footy club. everyone's passionate about the footy bangin night life in and out of the clubs, mint place to call home boro taxis on the way home!!
  • BORO
  • paul rodgers at the iow festival. jini woz on the same bill
  • Reading through this site was laughable, people from BORO are friendly, we dont wear kappa track suits and theres no more or no less smack heads in BORO then there is anywhere else. We have industry yeah, we have poverty in places but who hasnt. Grow up FFS take pride dont be predjudice, you must have sad lives to down the place you either once came from or visited, you dont have to visit we didnt send invites. IM PROUD TO BE A BORO GIRL of 34 years
  • after a hellish six months living here - it's the NORTHBOUND A19! woohoo byebye MISERABLEBROUGH.
  • a19 to stokesley then head onto the moors on foot away from chavs, albanians, and crack heads, single mothers with 5000 bling ear rings smoking 30 fags a second
  • ok well a lot of people have been slating middlesbrough and i have 2 admit it may not seem the nicest place in the world, and some may call it a gutter, but if u were born in the gutter, grew up in the gutter and live in the gutter then the gutter is home, and thats why i love my town, so to everyone who is gonna go there meet the people see the town n decide urself
  • Middlesbrough is a grower. When I first came here 5 years ago I thought it was the scruffiest place on earth. Then I got to know some locals; genuine, hardworking people on the whole. Wherever you go, you get drugs, prostitutes, scroungers. Middlesbrough has a lot to offer; good pubs, good restaurants (at very reasonable prices), entertainment, beautiful countryside; there's something about Boro that make people stay. If you don't like it, don't stay; if you do stay, stick up for it!
  • Loads to do and see. Relatively cheap cost of living. Football clubs recent success gave a welcome morale boost around the town and the match day celebrations are still being talked about, we even washed a buses windows with a bucket and mop we ,err, borrowed from Mcdonalds. Industry is surely an assett to the area with the Chemical complexs nearby at Wilton and Billingham, Corus Steel and the Powerstation at Hartlepool employing 1000,s of highly skilled workers. Teesside University, loads goin on and constantly getting bigger and better.
  • the mates you get after just chatting for a bit
  • friendly people. good scene for funky house n trendy people. small enough to see people you know, big enough to meet new people. Uni is in town centre so no busing about! easy to find u way about PARMO
  • The BESt things in Middlesbrough are the Tansporter bridge, the issac wilson pub and the fact that not everyone in middlesbrough is baghead scum, and tha it really is a case of a few bad apples spoiling the lot. BIG UP THE BORO!!!
  • No matter how under-priviliged a lot of peoples lives are here they still have a huge amount of pride for the place they were born and bred. ICI and all the other heavy industry looks stunning and other worldley at night. Most people (except the unfortunate ones who have fallen into heroin, stealing and wearing baseball caps at odd angles) from Middlesbrough are genuine, generous and have a cracking sense of humour.
  • Going out on a weekend, or if ya at school, hanging round the shops gettin sum 1 2 go in 4 ur bottles of bella. If ya r at school, go 2 abduls he will serve ya as long as ya look a least about 11!!!!
  • The only real redeeming features of the town are the some of the people I have met there. I joined as a student fresh out of Sixth From and quickly built a good circle of friends. Which I still know to this day. Other than that Middlesbrough has nothing to offer that cannot be eclipsed tenfold by the likes of Newcastle. Darlington is where I'm headed, similar place but the people actually give a shit about it!
  • Going to football matches and counting the thugs wearing (usually fake) Burberry!! Yarm and everything about it!
  • two wicked night clubs the empire (sugarshack) and tall trees
  • A19 South. Global warming causing the tees to swell and cut teesside and all above it to float off to sea.
  • middlesbrough has been in serval films and series so io dotn see y it can be so bad
  • THE NICE LADS !
  • the best things bout boro is the very few friendly people .no one will ignore you and mearly everyone is down to earth ,not like down south.the night life pretty good and its easy to get a shag.we have angels of the north up here.(there all fuckin massive)well not all of them, just a joke.
  • Central Park restaurant!!!!!!!!!!Sicillian Chicken.....
  • Go see the bod headed Phil DJ at the Royal Exchange club in the Boro. His shows are the best, part DJ and side-show act. To be honest i've never seen such a scruffy bastard in all my life oh yeah and for the local townie smack-heads there's regular shooting up sessions in the toilets and the dance floor is a cesspool of scuffy crackwhores, violence and sticky aids ridden smashed bottles. Bon apetite!
  • Cheap ganja, cheap ex pills, Fine biatchs, a good night life
  • The passion every one from boro holds for the place they more patriot about boro than england or any other part of england is about there area. This is probably because we naturally feel we need to unify against the rest of england as they try to outcast us but we is stronger, better and tougher people than any other part of england. as spacially the people of london as they snotty and mostly foreigners so fuck all ya'll.
  • I think this can be only the best thing. The dillusioned people that still wear Tracksuits. Ok you can have it that the shops do sell 'Designer' clothes.. so where the hell do they get them from.????
  • people who want to hit you are great for and bit of a workout as 90% can hardly lift their arms 'cos they will bleed to death through there needle holes (not that middlesbrough has a drugs problem)
  • I'm from London. A southerner who has moved away to raise a family in Middlesbrough. Middlesbrough does have some excellent points and some it needs to work on, as all places do! Its cheap, generally the people are friendly, and still hold on to values that we Londoners lost in the 80s under Thatcher, Something called community! The pace of life here is slower, so people still have time for you. A traffic jam will inconvince you in Boro for about ten minutes, In London about two hours. On your doorstep is some of the finest countryside and coastlines in England. No one could doubt the glorious architecture of London but try finding a green place that isn't just a park crammed full of the same desperate people who can't escape to the real deal. Boro still have a strong self belonging and self belief as this website clearly shows, if perhaps a little ott sometimes from reading some of the more hateful comments. Walking through town on a weekend night all I see is people having fun. And yes, young people do get drunk, and have fights. Yes there are people on smack etc, but where is there not in any major town or city. I grew up in the less than fashionable Hounslow in west London. It's about 80 feet under Heathrow's main flightpath! (look it up and you will see the same fall out of povety you get in Boro!) The students, who everyone seems to want to attack are vital to Boro's community and should be encouraged not hated in such a gross manner. It's those students, and I wasn't one myself, who will help bring in more wealth and energy to a poor area.
  • The best things about The North east is the amount of genuine, nice people you meet. For every bad person there are loads of nice people. I hate this stereotype that eeryone in the North east is a drunken dole-waller because the times have changed and so have the people. The North east is now a big business and socially aware area. Art, Expression, Job prospects, look around and you'll find it all!
  • ugc cinemas ,the empire ,house of fraser ,an the city at nite really ,good atmosphere
  • THE BOULEVARD
  • TIME Nightclub on Wilson street.
  • seeing the boro in rear view mirror
  • The trian out of Middlesbrough
  • touch of italy found at 18 Brentnall Street, just behind Captin Cook shops, Middlesbroughs best kept secret, great little deli they have a web site at http://www.touch-of-italy.com you gotta go and check it out!!!
  • I think southbank is 1 of the best place's in middlesbrough. I hate the way people slag it off, were not all smackheads ya know.Ive been brought up in southbank all my life by my mam and dad, and im gonna do the same with my kids.I am proud to say I LIVE IN SOUTHBANK.
  • The people. Everyone's spirit has been crushed to the same degree, it's a truly classless society.
  • students, they bring the economy, clubs, town and general outlook on the town up a lot. I think it would just be a smack/scally/prostitute haven without em. Middlesbrough FC also bring the town up. Pizza Royale on linthorpe YOUNIS RULES ALL!!! Shoppin is pretty good, Takeaways are pretty good. The chinese buffet restaurants are brilliant ive almost died of over eating there. ASGARD! we make the best of a bad situation. The trains going outt town!
  • worrah town eh?? who cares about the crime and drugs, we know owta ava good tarme! tha lads an lasses ov this town are all up for a laugh, the atmosphere is mint, we arent fulla smack eds or wallaz, we have loads of mint cloth shops, such as the box, usc, topman, river island. u name it, the boro can offer it. the spirit is all around u, everyone follows the same team an are aleays willing to av a natter about Stevey Macs Red Army (deh deh der deh, deh deh der deh!!!) So stop slaggin off tha boro, iv ya dont like it, dont cum ere, an iv ya winge whilst ya there, u'll probably get battered wiv an ammer from some lad from Grove Hill or Whinney Bronx.
  • kinda magic
  • Junk food at every step
  • I love boro, people might not be friendly, but its home somewhere im proud to be from..
  • go to jumping jaks on sundays very funny nite!!!
  • liquid
  • niet, nada, rien, not a single stupid thing
  • no cockneys, brummies, or scousers cos every1 thinks its a dump...hehe, people round here get worked up about outsiders slaggin off boro, 2 me its great. There's cheap as hell houses and it doesnt get filled up with people outside the boro and has a severe lack of chemical works, and the chemical works that are in Middlebrough are being planned to be demolished. Don't worry bout it, dont come here if you want...its your loss, us teessiders can have more of it to ourselves!
  • Old Mans park opposite cleveland centre
  • We would just like to put straight the snobby southerners who have the cheek to DIS the boro having lived here all your lives. You will actually find that there more drug addicts living down south than up north. We've noticed that you've stereotyped our area and are forgetting about us hardworking achieving youngsters who didn't get MUMMY and DADDY to pay for tutition fees to grammmer school but still came out with 23 GCSE's between the two of us. The worst thing about middlesbrough is having to put up with snobbery from people who have nothing better to do than PUT US DOWN all of the time. P.S At least in the Boro we can fit a plug ourselves without ringing for an electricians assistance. P.P.S We apologise for offending any Southerners who dont share these bigotted views. P.PS We also have the best footie team.
  • parmos'S!!!
  • After moving away from Middlesbrough, u don't appreciate it until its gone! Where else do u have countryside, seaside, decent shopping facilities and proper culture - not that up your nose southern cr*p.
  • Teesside isn't bad, beautiful countryside, plenty of parks, some museums, just down the road from the sea & stockton town centre & little nooks & crannies such as the green dragon pub, are beautiful ...then again other places are just so ugly & depressing - grove hill, south bank, tower hills - where else in the country can you buy a 3 bed house for under 10 grand coz the area's that bad?
  • Most people here are friendly
  • drunken men following you home Drugs available at all times very easy to become unemployed
  • wards fisheries, good shop makes you appreciate going back home more
  • It's not as bad as Redcar
  • The train out of middlesbrough
  • BORO RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CEPT FOR THE FOTTIE TEAM!!!!!!!!!
  • It has some really nice suburbs like Marton, Acklam and Brookfield which are just as good as any you would find in the south.
  • well if you are the townie scum type then hanging out on millhill field on a friday night with a bottle of lambrella maybe your thing. sitting around in the freazing cold in ya kappa tracksuits talking of how many cars you have tryed to breake into but failed.
  • Best sense of humour anywhere.
  • The whole of Middlesbrough cannot be said to be perfect or anywhere near perfect but it must be said that anyone bad moutheing Middlesbrough who actually live there are only complaining as they cannot get out of the Boro. If they lived elsewhere in the country then they would be able to make a fair comparison.
  • Boro FC. Steve McClaren rules
  • the bottle near the empire it is a top land mark it should be red and white not blue and white
  • Middlesbrough Football Club and my Mam's house.
  • Whinney Banks
  • Nothing, and I am born and bred BORO!
  • The Boro- the finest football team the world has ever seen! The genuine people of Middlesbrough- especially the ones that have lived there since the 1950s and before are some of the friendliest and most genuine people you could come across. But as most of the young lot things are best left unsaid!
  • The best thing about the boro is how easy it is to beat up students and skateboarders then take their money off them
  • CAN I JUST SAY TO THOSE WHO SLAG PALLISTER PARK, THAT THE PARK ITSELF HAS JUST WON GREEN FLAG AWARD FOR THE SECOND TIME IN THREE YEARS, NO EASY FEAT, AND THAT THE SOUTHERN PRATS THAT KEEPING SLAGGING BORO OFF SHOULD JUST SHUT UP AND TAKE OFF WE DIDN'T ASK THEM TO COME UP HERE.
  • not feeling conspicuous eating three pies, smoking eight fags and being pregnant with twins all at the same time. Playing SPOT THE COMMON TART and reaching three thousand and eleven before breakfast. walking down linthorpe rd after dark without being offered a five pound blow job by a skinny twelve year old smackhead. (not actually possible)
  • Honesty Low cost of living A laugh Near the hills and moors
  • Smashing fuck out of soft southern shandy drinking lesbian bedwetters after they have been shouting about their fighting prowess for an hour to their mates in the pub. Most of the people, who know how to have a fucking good laugh and a drink, unlike the gay southerners who sit in groups wanking off over photos of their XR2 body kits....
  • art college
  • PEOPLE NIGHT LIFE .THE FOOTBALL...SHOPPING ......FOOD EVERTHING IS GOD ABOUT THE BORO
  • The people, sometimes they can be a bit suspicious of outsiders but like anything in life, if you make an effort you'll get on fine. There are some genuinely nice people, you just have to look for them carefully.
  • The Foreign Students you get to meet who're studying at the University, Linthorpe Village, You only have to walk for about an hour to actually get out of Middlesbrough, and the Cleveland hills aren't too far away.
  • One way ticket out... Okay, yeah., people friendlier than South. Everyone over 50 who now live in despair at the decline.
  • alot of people in middlesbrough dont realise that you can't get parmo's ANYWHERE but middlesbrough so DONT LEAVE!! if i had realised this earlier i wouldnt of gone away to uni! but why hasn't anyone had the brainstorm of doing one to london and opening a parmo shop. you'd make a fortune!
  • parmo's
  • I am in the armed forces and been all over britain and the world and i can tell you that theres no place like teeside in gaeneral! The people are so friendly and cool
  • Try emigrating, and only getting home every 3 years or so...then pollution, smack heads, and crime be damned! I appreciate the Boro so much..I even read the Gazette on line, and still follow the Boro..The people ARE friendly, at least everyone I know in the US who has met soomeone from home thinks so....
  • THE BEST ABOUT THE BORO, WOULD BE ALL THE MEMORIES OF WALKING HOME FROM VARIOUS ESTABLISHMENTS, BUMPING INTO PEOPLE, HITTIN ANOTHER BAR, TRYING TO FIND A TAXI [THE MOST EXPENSIVE ON EARTH AT 3AM] AND GETTING HOME.
  • Beautiful countryside within 15 minutes drive away to get you out of the grime of Middlesbrough. Friendly people (`cos I was one but have been exiled to the South). Good Shops in town centre
  • Better than South
  • The football acadamy in eston
  • Seaton Carew Golf Course
  • there are aplentiful supply of pussy and drug dealers
  • watching the police bust peoples doors down nearly every day for an entire year on the way to college!
  • A large variety of prostitutes at rock bottom prices.
  • middlesbrough has a good atmosphere about it and i have lived in thorntree all of my life and never come to any harm
  • The friendliness of the people is the best thing about the Boro and the fact that it is home!
  • Getting into the Cleveland Centre and realising that there is shelter from the icy winds
  • Definitely the Parmesan from EUROPA is worth going back to the Boro for.... Thumbs up!!!
  • PLEASE NOTE THAT THE CHEMICAL PLANTS IN MIDDLESBROUGH WERE ACTUALLY ON THE BEGINNING OF BLADE RUNNER. THIS IS WERE THE GREAT RIDLEY SCOTT COMES FROM THANK YOU! UP THE BORO
  • All the lads and lassies of this small town are all up for a good night out
  • As a young lass who has now lived in Boro for 20 years I feel it necessary to defend one of the Governing factors that made me ..me. Best things *The friendliness of people *The Loyality that "most" people have to this fab town *Bryan Robsons Red & White Army ...now undeniably the best team in the northeast *The lack of drunken violence (since moving to uni in Nottingham I see that Boro is actually quite a traquil place and Finally the pubs .. great selection
  • Theres a good road system out of here, the A1 is very close, your insurance premiums are sky high cos of the crime rate
  • Sundays in Boro are for some strange reason always stone quiet, and sunny! Bizarre.
  • Watching the boro lasses on Saturday night as they go from pub to pub in the flimsiest clothes in temperatures a penguin would complain about. The fact that it is so near great places like Whitby.
  • The women are clean, they buy a round and are of easy virtue - and so are the blokes Also, Boro people have the best accents in the world.
  • Further Correction. BORO ARE IN THE PREMIER DIVISION
  • Great nightlife
  • Middlesbrough Sundays are the best thing.
  • The best thing it has going for it is: the girls. The girls in the boro are the nicest I have ever come across. Much better than the Southern girls.
  • Best place to go on Bank Holidays is The Linthorpe: great drinks and plenty of talent.
  • The Cornerhouse has ALL DAY live bands most Bank Holidays.
  • Middlesbrough has two very good points:
    1. The A19 going south.
    2. The train station with a regular service going out of it down south
  • the people and the football club
