The Worst Things in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire*

The entirely missable and worth mentioning because of it

You can tell us more about Milton Keynes.

The Worst Things
  • The reason that Netherfield has a high crime rate is because every thing that happens at the Milton Keynes Hospital is added to their rate as it is in that area. It is unfair to tarnish Netherfield with the drunken and drugged up people who assult the nurses at the hospital. Most of them are from out of town!
  • Milton Keynes has a HUGE problem with noisy/nuisance neighbours. There is no sense of community spirit there whatsoever. Want to be kept awake all night? Come to Milton Keynes: The shithole that never sleeps!
  • Milton Keynes is a soulless place. The people are unwelcoming and insular. People there don't really live, they just exist. Can't wait to leave!
  • People can't spell in Milton Keynes
  • Milton keynes seems to have been built for the car!!! oh yeah..we have the redways..bloody good idea NOT. perverts paradise!!! nowhere near the roads and big bushes and trees on either side for the nasties to hang out. and no pavements next to the main drags which means you have to go miles out of your way on winding redways or walk in the road or on the mud next to it!! and the buses...dont start me on mk buses..rude bus drivers...ignorant bus drivers...non existant buses...and dont bother after 10pm coz very few exist after this time which means you cant go visiting people without leaving at some stupidly early hour. maybe all of us in mk are meant to be tucked up in bed by 9pm!!!sunday service is virtually non existant....
  • The amount of people in Milton Keynes who just couldn't care less about their neighbours, and keep them awake all night. Have some consideration for other people you selfish c**s!!
  • Been in MK for 18 months now and had enough to be honest, it's just so bland and sterile. Also the people in general are really cliquey, not particularly friendly, and behave in a selfish, anti social way. When I first moved here I thought it was the best place in the world, but it's far from it. Overall it's just a really boring, soulless town! Can't recommend it. 28/05/10
  • Some of the estates are pretty awful and should be avoided at all costs. As long as you live in one of the nicer, quieter areas you'll love it! I really can't think of any negative points!
  • John Doe and Carter, the local "gangsta"
  • roundabouts
  • The fact that the speed limit is going to be lowered.
  • Damage caused to our beautiful marble clad city centre by mindless children on bikes skates and skate boards
  • the 7 story flats are sic in the lakes estate. netherfields is wrong. it is ghetto.fishermead is bad
  • SECURITY GUARDS ABSOLUTELY EVERYEHERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • No pie and mash shop!
  • The worst things are the townies.
  • waking up
  • Milton keynes is just aload of rubbish, never anything to do, boring night life, shite estates and lets not forget to mention all the grebo's that do the tree hugging around Midsummer! want absoulutely nothing to do? Then come to Milton Keynes!!! crappiest place on earth!
  • As i sed b4 buildings that dont fit in r well annoyin. O yeh n the dodgy blokes who live round Fishermead n the Lakes Estate! Avoid them at all costs girls!!
  • Roundabouts.......everywhere
  • The fact its sooo difficult to pass a driving test here cos all the examiners are sadistic arragant 'i got my license out of cereal packet' idiots The townies around Shenley Brook End Shenley Brook End School Bletchley train station Public Transport Expensive to go anyway (i live in a university town now much cheaper!!)
  • greebs
  • Taxi service. I think all taxi drivers should qualify for a disabled persons parking permit. This is because the pea brained morons don't appear to have the ability to get off of their fat arses and contact their customers. Instead they sit in their cars and sound their horns (any time of the day and night). Booking a taxi is like dealing with the living dead.
  • All Milton Keynes taxi drivers should be issued with disabled drivers badges because I have not seen one that can get off of their fat arses. Instead they sit in the car and sound their horn and expect their passengers to find them. This I might add happens at any time of the day or night. What a bunch of ignorant, parasitic morons.
  • It is goddamn easy to get lost, even for a local!! Many of the estates look the same and Jeebus you take a way that looks about right and end up in totally the wrong place, or somewhere dodgy like Fishermead. Thats why when travelling in MK go in large groups..not for safety..just so you can eat at least a few of them when you inevitabley get lost for days on end.
  • Beggers and q's at xmas
  • There's nothing bad to say about Hemel, period.
  • Affected trade in local towns such as Leighton Buzzard, Luton etc, but to be honest they haven't exactly helped themselves in the slightest during recent years.
  • Bad attitude of males aged 15 to approx 30 ish. Seems like everyone is out to kill each other. In most other towns i've lived, if you accidently bump into someone ina pub or club a "Sorry mate" usually does the trick. In MK, start running!!
  • Many of the shops in the centre have rude, obnoxious cashiers who treat you like sewage.
  • the Kevs and the gyppos.......bloody gyppos.
  • The place is just a series of bland villages with a tacky pub, small shop (usually clad in closed corrugated steel rollers shutters) and if your lucky a takeaway surrounding a central heartless hub otherwise kinown as CMK.
  • Every village has one pub, one shop and a thousand little box houses around it. Planning went mad in the seventies and has been allowed to go astray in the 21st century too. Now they are talking about demolishing the Icerink for a supermatrket.....real forward thinking!
  • People complaining about it and saying its a cultural desert. We have anything from the countrys best theatre outside London, to museums to art galleries, to Roman villas and other ruins, to beautiful parks and gardens with sculptures made by proffesional artists, and even a Buddhist Temple (the first one outside Asia). If you like olde Worlde style buildings, just LOOK! They are everywhere. All of the old towns and villages which were incorperated into MK have lovely old buildings and thatched cottages. Shame on "The Times" for calling us a cultural desert.
  • Crap buses
  • Fishermead might be spaced out, but no one there looks after theyre neighbourhood and nearly every block of homes has piles of trash everywhere,& every alley has red graffiti in it.
  • I've been a resident of fishermead for 6 years & it's so awful.Theres shopping trolleys, abandoned cars & graffiti all over the estate. To be honest, it's better now than 5 or 6 years ago but the good residents of this estate are fighting a losing battle.
  • I got robbed at the hidious netherfield shops by 4 asian youths, when i find them i'll show em!
  • People have no style cos there's nothing different here; the same shops you find in every high street. Netherfield, Conniburrow, Fishermead, Fuller's Slade etc: All skanky estates you should avoid.
  • *Gypsies *Crap weather *Fishermead
  • There's not a lot to do in Milton Keynes at night unless you like getting drunk and are rich.
  • Lloyd shaw
  • Horizon Radio.
  • Willen lake and the fish that I find floating on the surface! The bowl can only really be used in the summer cus its open air.
  • The Tommy HIlfigered kids who hang round the city centre - does anyone really think you can wear that stuff from top to toe without looking a total div? The fact there are not many independent shops in the town, like you'd find in most other places. Most shops in MK are basically high street stores you'd find everywhere. Same old same old.
  • The roundabout grid system. Whoever designed that should be shot if they're not dead already.
  • Excess traffic, distance, lack and cost of public transport. Here's an idea. Why not lodge a petition to MK council to consider the founding of an economical monorail system. It's practical for a host of reasons. It wouldn't add to peak time congestion problems as with buses, taxis, cars, etc. Monorails' run on maglev mechanisms elevated high above ground level. They can be automated to deliver frequent services at reliable intervals, unlike busses and taxis. There ecological and consequently don't harm the environment, again unlike road going vehicles. Check out docklands, it uses monorails. Just picture it, you come out of a club, it's 3am, it's too late for a bus and you can't flag down a cab for trying. You fill in the gap. Courtesy of RNofEV.
  • Hang overs after being in the pubs in Stony Stratford.
  • All the clones, the Kevs, whatever you wanna call 'em, they seen to have taken over the place.
  • Theres a lot of talk about how bad certain places are and others arguing that they are not really that bad. I suggest people email Thames Valley Police. They can (and will) provide you with Crime statistics for each city 'block'. I think the people who live in Netherfield, Fishermead, coffee hall et al will be unpleasantly suprised. I have the facts about these places, they have HIGH crime stats.
  • 3 Letters........ T.G.B's (ok, well, 4 then)
  • GYPSIES.
  • Price of petrol!
  • Having MK labelled as a concrete jungle...we have a lot of parks and greenery here...ok so its a bit built up in the centre but half the people who visit MK go there and no-where else, so how can they judge the WHOLE of the town when they haven't seen it. Y'know when I has a b-day disco, I hired The Barn at the Great Linford Arts Centre, and it is in the original part of Great Linford, near the Manor Studios, the pub and the church. My friend's mum, who lives in Whittlebury which is a very small boring village near Northampton said "Oh I didn't realise there were places like this in Milton Keynes," in her posh snotty voice. I mean what did she think it would be like...full of rough areas and loads of buildings. See what I mean!?
  • Milton Keynes is being increasingly invaded by Travellers who move from area to area leaving all sorts of shit behind (e.g used sanitry towels....lovely) Steer well clear of the Fishermead & Springfield estates.
  • M.K. taxis, you just can't get one when you want one. Although they aren't too bad on prices.
  • Impossible to get around without a car, and trying to find a bus or a taxi in the town centre after 9pm is impossible.
  • The young population is very young...
  • *The amount of roundabouts. *If you have problems with finding places when driving, then it's best to invest in a street atlas (It's only a couple of quid). Because Milton Keynes is a very easy place to get lost in.
  • Dumb vegetation planted by architects, rather than gardeners, that overgrows walk/cycle-ways in the housing estates.
  • It's getting very over populated and the builders are building the plots ontop of each other!
  • the underpasses, lots of attacks have happened under them.
  • The only place in the world where the centre of town is effectivly shut after 8pm
