I am an adventurous widow in my early sixties, and I am still young at heart. I am looking for a local man to satisfy me and keep me warm at night. Nothing long term though. The best way to find me is via www dateagranny dot com web site - I would rather you find me there than me put up my email here - I hope you understand. Sylvia x

Anyone have any relatives called Arthur William Lindsay? He was born between 1869 & 1890 and was in the Merchant Navy, serving at times as First or Chief Officer. He was on the SS Cairnesk in the mid 1930s and was lost at sea between 1939 and 1942. His home address from about 1925 was Warrender Park Road in Edinburgh. Any clues or help much appreciated.

| looking for family

I am looking for information on the Sutherland family of Montrose. William Sutherland was hotel keeper at The Hotel Murthly. He was married in 1910 at the Central hotel Montrose. He married Iabel Bannerman and they lived at 23 Bents Road. I beleive they had six children one of which may have been Ian Sutherland. Does anyone have any knowledge of this family or can you tell me if these hotels still exist.

by Garry Gale (Member 10185497) on 21-May-2006
Hi
i am a grandson of William Sutherland..my mother was Mary Donald Sutherland..her sister's were Kitty & Morna (twins) & Greta..brothers Alasdair, Neil, Iain and Dennis..there was another child..Sioras (died in infancy)
Surviving family are Kitty, Greta and Dennis
I only met my uncle Iain once in London, maybe 50 years ago. I understand that he possibly developed schizophrenia..maybe committed suicide..he was married and had children ... but all links ?
There is a family grave in Dunkeld Parish Church for most of the deceased of the family. Like most Scottish families there were various schisms between the various siblings!!!
The hotel was burnt down in 19? ..'blamed' on Dennis using a paraffin lamp to do late night homework. The family decamped to Knightswood in Glasagow (no insurance on the hotel)..All children of William served in the forces during WWII..William himself had been in the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders..I can still remember him singing regimental songs to me when I was a toddler!!
Hope this is useful to you
Cheers
Garry

| PMR 446 Mhz Internet Gateway in the Montrose area
|
by uk511 (Member 10159394) on 23-Jul-2005
|
Welcome to the info page for the PMR 446 Mhz Internet Gateway in the Montrose area
it operates on the following Channel: 7 CTCSS: 19
Operating Hours: 24 hrs
There are PMR446 Internet Gateways up and down the UK and now across the world that anybody with a PMR446 radio can have access to. As an example of how this works, someone within range of my gateway link can talk through that link, over the internet, and out through another gateway in, say, Belgium or Australia. Someone within range of that second gateway can then communicate back and thus establish a conversation. Accessing the gateway using your PMR446 Radio All the gateways operate a CTCSS access system which requires a CTCSS capable radio with CTCSS set to 127.3Hz (CTCSS tone 19 on most radios).
To access the PMR 446 Mhz Internet Gateway in the PMR 446 Mhz Internet Gateway in the Montrose area set your radio to Channel 7, CTCSS code 19
The gateway is very easy to use. You use it as you would with a normal one to one communication, no callsigns are required, just call CQ or just a straightforward 'Hello, this is X calling from Y, anyone copy?' and you might be surprised who comes back to you as there are gateways all over the world. Note that there can often be a delay from the station that you are speaking to and don't forget to wait for the pips after their over before you transmit. It is also best to press the PTT button on your radio and wait a second before speaking to make sure the beginning of your over doesn't get cut off. If you don't have CTCSS on your radio you won't be able to transmit to the gateway but you will still be able to listen in on Channel 4.
When the system is idle the gateway will play this voice message every 10 minutes identifying the gateway. This message was generated using The Festival Speech Synthesis System on Linux.
During the week the network is fairly quiet during the daytime with most activity taking place during the evening and at the weekend but if it is quiet call CQ, a lot of people are monitoring even if they're not talking...
There are just a few Do's and Don'ts that will help keep the network sane: Don't swear, don't use call or ring tones, do switch off 'roger beeps' if possible.
RADIOS CAN BE BOUGHT AT ARGOS AND MANY STORES PLEASE ENSURE THAT THE RADIOS YOU GET HAVE THE 38 SUB TONES OR CTCSS TONES
thank you from the gateway keeper and we hope you will use and enjoy this free service who knows you could maybe link up with lost freinds and chat with them from all over the world
FOR MORE INFO ON RADIO GATEWAYS AND TO DOWNLOAD A PC CLIENT VISIT www.446user.co.uk and download the pc client then you can chat with people on handsets from around the uk and the world for free no call charges or top ups just good old free software and free airtime ... more >>

| the good and the bad

What's good about Montrose - well the beach is never far away, it is sooooo safe, people still leave prams outside shops, it's a bit like Sleepy Hollow and takes about two days for you to slow down and relax. I work away around the country and this place is fantastic therapy from stress. The second hand shops are full of treasure, as is the local auctions.
The architecture is beautiful with houses selling for a relative fraction, for example my house would sell for about half a million in Bristol, whereas here it is about 96k - and that's with sea views! Four bedrooms, huge kitchen and bathroom, dining room and lounge to die for. Not a lot of people know about the wild life, not only the birds, but the dolphins.
Bad is that there needs to be more to do in respect to night life, but this is being addressed as we speak, as there is enough need and want for it - don't get me wrong there is plenty to do if you want to go to Aberdeen, or even Glasgow, but we need more in the town.
There is some pretty good B&B's such as the Links, but the main hotel The Carlton needs to upgrade itself with the new owners needing to realise the customer is most important - in such a small place rumours abound that they don't take kindly to complaints, as did one unlucky patron who was then asked to leave and not return, as "we do not like complainers in our hotel". Also rather than use the amazing organic local meat and veg frozen is on the menue. BUT we have the Loos leap a great venue to eating out, lots of fun, good food, child freindly and very busy.
Great place to live and a great place to visit. ... more >>

I think that the most amazing thing about this town is that I have never had a job, never had a relationship at 42 years, and I have NO friends.
Why does this town alienate me, and treat me like I am shit ?

| STOLEN SPOILER

To the thieving gypsy smelly stinking tinky who stole the spoiler off our FTO in Arbroath, may your little fucking chav mobile be eaten by the rust you have painted over and fall apart. May your girlfriend bear you 13 1/2 ginger kids and may they all have one leg per piece, no fingers and are all born crack whores.
May your family contract a severe case of knob rot and quickly be wiped out - i hear inbreeding is the way to go when you smell so bad that not even an incontinent sheep would shit on you.
To the DECENT honest people of Montrose, if you know of anybody who's car is now sporting a large Veilside spoiler on the back, i offer a VERY LARGE reward for the safe recovery of it. The spoiler itself has cost quite a few quid but a bare assed FTO, is an ugly car indeed.
I am asking for anyone who may know of its whereabouts , or indeed, knows of anyone who may know the whereabouts of it to get intouch. Easiest wad of money you have ever made!.
I can guarantee the complete annonymity of any and all people who get in touch.
