Cringing Cult of Celebrity
  • I noticed that nobody has mentioned two particularly famous individuals. One is the slightly aged individual who rides his bike up and down Ashley Road. Yes the one with blocks on his pedals who swears profanely at every passing vehicle and can occasionally be seen over the top of the bar at the Oak and Yaffle (Woodpecker if you remember back that far). I know I used to serve him. The other memorable individual is Pat the retired farmer. Now as far back as I remember Pat has held up the bar in the Woodpecker and then Oak and Yaffle. There is a pile of rollup ash three feet deep where he stands and the man must have shares in Whitbread judging by the money he has passed over the bar. He must also have the constitution of a Rhino as was about 80 last time I saw him. A very nice bloke who should definately enter the hall of New Milton fame. (Incidentally he has only ever been out of New Milton on a visit to Southampton once in his life. I think that says it all).
