  • bedlington denis todd and his daughter, everything you ever need to know re brass instruments, plus a fine range of geetars and starter band stuff
  • Windows - central arcade
  • Plenty of choice here - but Willie's in Sunderland is the only place for drums and bits
  • Sound Control - Sound Control is an excellant shop for guitars (the choice is great - unless you don't want a strat!), but I'd be quite wary about leaving your guitar with the tech to be fixed. I left mine & he said it would take a week to do the action...a week later & I phoned to see if it was done & he didn't know what I was talking about...I asked him if he could do it & he said "It will have to join the back of the cue!". So I came to get my guitar (all the way from Hartlepool - nearly 30 miles away) & they didn't know where my guitar was (we are talking an expensive £1500 Ibanez). I had to wait for 40 minutes while they search the whole premises for it. Of course it wasn't done when they found it half crushed under some equipment in the corridor thing under the stairs. I complained about the guy & no one seemed to care & no one apologised. So I buy all my expensive £1000-2000 purchases elsewhere now. Got I very nice Ibanez in Leeds the other day....& a nice new Marshall stack. Oh, & a nice new acoustic.
  • newcastle drum centre sound control
  • SOUND CONTROL

  • Windows? Tossers!
  • Believe it or not, HMV!!. but also RPM for beats and breaks, and Global DJ centre for any 4/4 stuff
  • Go to the metro centre and go to williams.
  • New guitar shop ... Live'n'Loud 4 Old Eldon Square, Newcastle upon Tyne .. next to "hippie green", formerly Grott guitars, the shop is newly refurbished and now under new managment 100's of new and second hand guitars amps etc also cheap strings ,books ,tutors and the like.. try out the guitars etc.. great place for a bargain all instuments are guaranteed fiendly service and advice is always free, (if yer lucky "Jeff" might even put the kettle on ) otherwise there's two good cofee shops in the basement below
  • sound control was a pleasure to walk into the assistant was informative and helpfull iwill go back and buy a guitar on monday . the other shop was the guitar shop at the old yard i thaught i was invisable. what a miserable sod as a result sound control will have £1100 of my hard earned dosh. see it pays to be polite .
  • Sound Control, by far the best musical instrument shop in the town. Part of a UK chain started by two Scotsmen who hired PA equipment during the punk era to amongst others The Skids. Staffed by both young and established musicians. Sound Control caters for everyone from bedroom rock and rollers to pro-audio. Helpful, experienced staff. Best selection, competitive prices. Sounds Live, experienced staff, good selection, and competitive prices. Set up by staff originally working for Rock City (no connection to Sound Control). Windows, small section of department store, limited selection of overpriced equipment. Clueless, pompous, unhelpful staff. Don’t bother. Grott Guitars. A guy walked into Grott Guitars looking for some specific machine-heads for an acoustic guitar. He pointed out the type he was looking for that were on an old acoustic in the corner. The staff look at the acoustic, look at the machine-heads and realise they don’t have them in stock. The next minute a staff member has the guitar on the ground and stamps on the neck snapping the headstock and within minutes the guy leaves the shop with a broken headstock with 6 shiny machine-heads attached - all for a quid. Urban Myth? Whatever, a good selection of cheap (if a little scruffy) second hand bits and bobs.
  • Great Sax Shop in Gosforth, just off the high st. (yes, i did say s-A-x)
  • Several instrument shops spring to mind. The two main ones are Sound Control and Sound's Live, who will allways try to beat each other on price. This goes back to when Sound Control sacked all their staff so they went and setup sounds live round the corner. Both do a full range of Synths and recording gear, from budget to hitec stuff. For my money, Sound control is the better store, the staff are friendly and as they are all musicians themselfs, will be more than happy to demo gear for you. The Newcastle drum centre will cater to all your percussion needs, and if they don't stock it, they can get it (I got some Tablas there). As for guitars, both the two main shops have a huge selection. Otherwise try Grott guitars next to hippie green (old eldon square) but be careful! Decks can be purchased from Richer Sounds or most of the other HiFi shops, all will try to beat each other on price.
  • windows **** sound control ***** sounds live ** + loads of second hand places, just look down back streets. fs
  • Sounds Live - see their site at www.soundslive.co.uk - for electronic/computer music
  • Windows, in the central arcade - sells most musical instruments Newcastle Drum Centre - excellent drum shop down by the quayside
