- Pet Sounds is the best shop in the world and is situated by the side of The old Eldon Square. It sells good CDs at low prices and the staff are really helpfull.
- Steel Wheels at the bottom of pilgrim street is a really good second hand place to get rare vinyls,cd's etc. Don't be put off by "second hand" - you can get lots of chart/current stuff too.
- Flying Records on Low Bridge.
Sells house, trance, techno and drum and bass. Friendly staff who also run the very popular
Shindig, a top night out!
Other than that, HMV has one of the biggest singles sections in the UK (certainly has more
plastic per square foot than the one on London's oxford St. (the biggest HMV in the
country). The best thing about getting record here (apart from the fact that they
actually have decks to listen to the records on) is that the department's purchaser
has excellent taste in music, hence if the record is good, they will have it!
- Steel Wheels is now in a bigger shop on Pilgrim Street (down towards the quayside) - loads of 2nd hand stock at decent prices
- Pet Sounds (6 Old Eldon Square, Newcastle) = vinyl, CDs and tapes bough & sold.
- R.P.M. (61-63 Percy Street, Eldon Gardon, Newcastle)
- Volume Records
Volume has closed down - but about two doors down Surface Noise has opened and is the best record shop in the Toon, for both vinyl and cds especially if you are into the weirder stuff likr me.

- Hitzville, Saville Row (0191 2301626) - Some cheap new CD releases. Spin CDs, High Bridge St. (0191 2614741) - New Cds for around 12 quid. Friendly staff.
- RPM, Percy Street (0191 2210201) Indie/vinyl, world etc.
- Virgin, Northumberland St. (0191 2305959) - Usual 15 quid stuff
