The Worst Things in Newhaven, East Sussex*

The entirely missable and worth mentioning because of it

You can tell us more about Newhaven.

The Worst Things
  • The attitude that 'Newhaven is crap' started outside, actually beginning to be adopted by people who live there. There may be some 'crap' things in the town but that doesn't make it all 'crap'!
  • The ring road
  • The moat, I mean One-way system
  • The people, (mainly the 'cool' youth townies, but also the stout British BNP member types), the shops, (and the lack of shops), the lack of entertainment, the council, the schools, the one-way system, the stupid swingbridge, the graffetti, the drug problem, e.t.c, e.t.c, e.t.c.....
  • Nothing to do, exept if you ninety years old. The token small town mentality, you would expect. The lack of ethnic minorities and simplistic bigotory that comes with the terrortory. Pretend cockney accents that would make Dick Van Dyke cringe. This town is the inspiration for the film The Wicker Man, I rest my case!
  • The view across the town when its misty and raining.....What an ugly sight !
  • Newhaven is possibly the grottiest place in the whole of Europe, which only adds to it's charm in my opinion, but you can't polish a turd.
  • Newhaven.
  • The sad spirit of pessimism adopted by the majority of Newhaven long termers.
  • Er need i say more?!
  • Precinct
  • gibbon road the water at the beach euhhhhhhh infact the tap water aswell euhhhh
  • Dave and Marg at the Bridge.
  • The Councils and Politicians
  • The ring road is the worst thing that ever happened to this once thriving town, the local authorities seem to have run out of ideas and won't take ideas from others. Perhaps they have strong ideas about running a town down before building it into a masterpiece.
  • The Stupid ring road, it only rings a street or two and a group of shops, effectively isolating them from the rest of the town.
  • Having to wear a shell-suit and walk with a limp just to fit in.
  • god there are so many, that road up by court farm road - the one the police tend to pay a lot of social calls too Pratts on motorbikes riding over the cliff top - why cant they miss and plunge in to the sea Bloody seagulls
  • The ugly inbred faces, the bad clothes, the dreary boredom, the paddling pool that pretends it is a swimming pool, the bad hair cuts, the lousy shops, the violent drunkards, the home-made tattoos and the small-town mentality of its poorly-educated residents. (was that too harsh? A:NO!)
  • The dismal town centre, neglected for decades by the District Council which sits in Lewes, 10 miles away. Lewes has pretty cobbled streets and subsidised open-air pools and athletics tracks - Newhaven has tarmac and boarded-up windows
  • You have to pay to use every car park - even if you want to just buy a newspaper. Lovely riverside walks overlook Council tip and car scap heap - very attractive.
  • Too many spanners Nothing to do Too many estate agents
