  • Cask and Crispin is the PHAT one, dark and dingy, proper pub.
  • THE NEW MANAGEMENT AT THE WHITE LION AT ARRETON (HAVING BEEN THERE FOR TWO YEARS )HAVE A POLICY OF FAIR PLAY. THEY HAVE NEVER SACKED ANYONE WITHOUT GOOD REASON. GIVE THE WHITE LION A CHANCE, AS YOU MAY FIND THAT YOU AGREE WITH THE APPRECIATIVE MAJORITY RATHER THAN THE SAD LONELY MINORITY!
  • Hogshead- Nice but often very busy on Friday& Saturdays. Staff rude The Vine-avoid! The Cask and Crispin- clientelle spilit between very youthful and pensioners! Joe Daflos- nice atmoshere and good cocktails The others are generally small and better for food!
  • Hogshead is always good, and the newly opened Joe Daflo's next door to it.
  • the vine inn
  • The Bargeman's Rest by the quay has great food and music.
  • I prefer weed
  • Cask and Crispin is a friendly pub but you can hide in the corner if you so wish. Warning a very good if some what adictive quiz machine.
  • plenty of the buggers to quench your first
  • Vine, waverley Loads more
  • Hogshead - like every other - quiet, clean, but popular. Nice range of Ales Calvert's - good if you like watching or getting involved in fights. Johnny Aggro's local. Seats last cleaned in 1957. Decent pub. The Vine - pretty decent, big TV screen for Sky footy. The George - fancies itself as a restaurant, when it is quite plainly a boozer. Having said that, the food portions are ginormous, if a little plain. Not suitable for serious drinking. Wheatsheaf - popular with the thirty/forty somethings. Can get lively but sometimes a bit dull even at weekends. Railway - small local's place but very welcoming. Smallest beer garden north of Timbuktu. Castle - looks nice, dull as **** inside. Prince of Wales - stay away. There is absolutely no reason to go anywhere near this hole.
  • The Hog's Head is ok if not a bit cattle yardish! The Wheatsheaf is a good meeting spot.
  • the chine inn! the workman's arms the spyglass inn. every pub in ryde.
  • The Vine.......nothing better Don't go near the Prince of Wales
  • Several. My personal preference in town is probably the George, next to McDonalds. You're better off going out of town.
  • Good pub is The Vine which is in the High Street.
  • The Railway, Holyrood Street. Owned by Dave. Excellent deep pan pizza made on premises. Good fast pool table. Beers on tap: Gales Ales, VSB ales , Triple Crown. Very friendly atmosphere with the locals. Differene not commercial ,good pub football team, darts.
  • Newport used to have lots of pubs but they got wiped out by the Whitbread monopoly in the 1970's and 80's. I've written a book about them, complete with photographs, press accounts, anecdotes and other information. Young or old, you will enjoy this book, it reaches down through 800 years of history charting the growth of the town and its pubs. All those lives, the miseries, the laughter, the good times and bad,are there. If you want to order a copy, contact Prontaprint in Pyle Street, Newport on percy@prontiow.demon.co.uk or me at kevin@insula-vecta.demon.co.uk I guarantee you'll enjoy it.
