  • The Griffin, in Griffin Street funnily enough is now closed sadly. Now too many theme pubs spoiling Newports for sure!
  • loads of them , Hornblower is good, bikers paradise, especially on a sunny afternoon, play good music.
  • Hornblower One of the best places to go for live rock bands..Only been going there since June. One of my better ideas!!. Also has a brilliant jukebox full of music from Evanescence to Def Leppard, they have more except I can never remember it after 3-4 pints of Strongbow. Seen GTFBI in there (they have a website and are frankly fantastic!).
  • WETHERSPOONS NEED I Sy more
  • the Hornblower, all i can say is awesome people and beer, what more could u ask for?
  • the old rising sun has opened again, bit posh now! good atmosphere food and friendly staff, perfect place to get a few in before town. cracking laugh
  • Le Pub (indie)
  • Whoever wrote about the Ridgeway hasn't been there lately. Yes, it used to be crap. But new people have taken over, and are really trying to make a go of it. Went there unexpectedly the other week, not into karaoke, but had a cracking night. Had some really good regulars singing on the karaoke, especially Rachel, she's a star!
  • Bring back the Chartist Arms where you could be guaranteed to witness someone being thrown through one of the windows on a Friday night. The clientele could be considered 'fresh faced'!!
  • Le pub still has sorted staff, wicked tunes and mostly cool patrons although sum very youthful lookin townies have been known to encroach upon our skater boys in recent weeks!
  • MY FAVOURITE PUB IN THE WORLD.....THE MURRENGER!
  • Langtons. Newport City Jazz Band on a Sunday! Fuckin' ace.
  • O' Neill's is nice if you want a quiet pub, complete with Pool table. It's pretty near the bus station though... Le Pub and OTT's are good for just hanging around and chatting/drinking. TJ's is good for heavy drinking and loud music ;) It's also good if you look young (like me) and don't like having to take ID with you in case it gets nicked...
  • Riverside, Langtons, Hornblower, Murenger, sometimes Le Pub. Nice to mix and match between the 'trendy' pubs and the in-crowd pubs. It's the company you keep that makes your night. But I'd recommend the above cos they got character, and character goes a long way.
  • Murrenger -- although an excellent little pub is being shut for two months for a complete decoration and refurb... cant ever take away the charachter from this pub
  • C-mon, how wud i no bout pubs? :p The Arcade- Formally Hectors Harveys- OLD PEOPLE EVERYWHERE Tate Wine Lodge The Old Monk- ARGHHHH, THE OLD PEOPLE.
  • The Riverside Tavern in Clarence Place is the best pub in newport by miles, nice beer and a nice relaxed atomsphere.
  • the best place in newport is Le pub where friday nitghs is the warm up place before going to Tj's . only bad point of it is that it's way to hot!!!!!!!!!great music and chilled atmosphere especially down stairs. Also verys good looking bar staff of each gender.if you dont fancy going to tj's after you can in le pub untill 2am!
  • I'm sure I've already said this! Le Pub. The Murrenger. The Riverside Tavern. Wetherspoons. The Old Monk.
  • O'Rileys
  • TJ's, le pub is descent
  • cock side, le cunt,
  • The Griffin, Griffin Street, Newport. There was a time when the Griffin was full of kids buying fudpuckers and lollies, but those days are gone. The pub is back on top despite lots of new competition, with offers on cocktails and bottles before 9pm (2 for 1). Never any trouble, music to suit all tastes, a wicked atmosphere and - surprise surprise, happy barstaff! It's a good place to drop in on if you fancy a laugh or something a little bit different to drink! Also a great place to pull !! Recommendations - B52's, Kelly's Comforts and White Russians - oh, and loads of flavoured shooters too. See you there.
  • They are all rough as fuck
  • murenger, no way does anybody go there for the quality of beer, it's all awful, but good place to hang out all the same. riverside is more laid back, hornblowr is pretty good too. six bells on stow hill is dirt cheap, and has reverted from being a firkin pub (thank god) dodgy decor tho'
  • For a good night out in Newport....although it's not hard to have one....start with The Cross Keys - pool & football on Sky, The Griffin - cocktails & decent enough eye candy, and then Murenger, Wetherspoons and LLoyds. Pretty much most of the places are decent.
  • Well the best pubs are of course the ones that open till 2am and they are John Henrys and the Toad - the Toad used to be the westgate hotel! Also recommend Lloyds as it plays latest chart dance and garage!!
  • murrenger, le pub, riverside & the hornblower are all skater freindly pubs
  • If you're looking for a quiet pub with no atmosphere, go to the Ridgeway Inn, cos no one else does!!
  • I am v.v disapointed in u!!!! In all ur talking about newport, u have not mentioned, 'The Carpenter's Arms' (opposite Yates). It is best on Saturday's when Sam (the dj) does his metal set. I would recomend it to ne one and everyone as long as ur not too much of a trendie asshole!! Please add 'Carpenters' to ur list of pubs and i will pleadge my aleagence to u and all of urs!!
  • the griffin this is the be all and end all as far as pubs go. it jusy=t doesnt get much better than this!!
  • the best pub to go to in newport is the Murrenger don't bother going no where else cause the lager tastes like shit
  • The Angel, Le Pub (classy pre tj's hang out), Riverside tavern, Murenger, and the king billy (king Willian I to all those who want the exact terminology) owned by this guy called Gem who is sound. Go on in the decor is cool!
  • Loads, and Loads! 15 of them in Caerleon Village
  • The Griffin if you want cocktails and friendlt atmosphere. La Bambas for a few more fun cocktails and tequila slammers!
  • A good night out is as follows - Pen & Wig, cheap doubles (£1:50) and loads of places to sit and talk with your mates whilst you get started - also a very good range of mutton dressed as lamb to laugh at! Then on to the Griffin for a few cocktails and kamakazes, then to the murrenger (even though their cider is vile)for a couple before heading off to the cotton club. Other optional pubs enroute are Le Pub, the Cross Keys (for pool), O'Neills, and the Riverside.
  • The Murenger has always had the best beer and the best jukebox and the best crowd in town. However, The Griffin is good for your young posh totty, and Le Pub is alright as well.
  • Go to caerleon i'd say again but loads of pubs in newport...just student prices in caerleon especially minstrels.
  • Has to be the Riverside. Beats going over the Bridge to the shite in Newport Town Centre.
  • The Riverside Tavern isn't too bad, it stays open until 1am and is great in the summer as you can sit outside and smoke as many joints as you want!
  • bloody loads of them...if you want to be an alcoholic come to newport...nice beer too
  • Horblower and Murenger do the best beers riverside + Le Pub are nice places but shit beer
  • the royal mail on factory road has full size pool table and yummy cheap food
  • The Engineers in Baneswell for all you 30 somethings who want a decent town centre hostelry, without the hassle of the town centre kids !!
  • For a complete listing of pubs in Newport selling decent beer look at the website of Gwent Branch of The Campaign for Real Ale. The Newport list is at http://members.aol.com/gwentcamra/newport.htm#Newport
  • If you're gay or lesbian in Newport, forget it! Go to Cardiff. There is, actually a gay pub in Newport called the Log Box, so-called because it IS the size (or possibly smaller) of a log-box. Basically, if more tha three of you want to go in, two of the bar staff have to leave. That's how small it is. I kid thee not.
  • Le Pub, a great place for indie, rock and underground dance music and live bands in the week.
  • Ale House, John Frost Square. Ye Olde Murenger House, High Street. The Hornblower, Commercial Street. (Good for bikers)
  • Some of the best pubs are The Griffin, in Griffin Street (a little small, but very cosy and a great laugh!)
  • The Ale house is shut in John Frost square. Good atmos in the Rat & Parrot in Cambrian Road (after dark), Lloyds is also good for a giggle (also in Cambrian Road)
  • AVOID like the plague the really bad themed pubs which are springing up in newport, namely the parrot and something, and so on. some good pubs in the alleys by the market...but they are rough.
