- Did you know that Newport is twinned with Kutaisi in Georgia ?
- Public art, ffwrm and Caerleon, Gwent reens, new Arts Centre, Spytty sports village, belle vue park, St. Woolos cathedral,
- GO TO NEWPORT
- Newport is a bit of a dive. The council seems to go in for strange sculptures and has recently pulled down some old derelict Warehouse type buildings on the Riverfront with some eyesore of a building that purports to be an arts centre. Clearly they have no artistic skills.
Newport also has a seed run down bus station & bus services(Best avoided)
A semi deralict Multi story care park & several other buildings in a similar state.
A wide choice of empty shops. Cheap junk type discount shops etc.
If you want to go shopping Newport is best avoided. Cardiff or Bristol have much more to offer.
- Newport council have finally allocated some money to build a public skatepark , this has to be done by March 2004 ill let u no when i no more!!
- Cool Lighthouse and pub down near the water which is smart, can see across to England.
Stonehouse pub... think its in Duffryn... friendly people and like being in your lounge...
Costume/jewellery shop in arcade near station... loads of quaint stuff...
Scarletts, it may be a bit run down but its got character.
- go to charlies. have a baked bean and cheese toasty! mmmmmmmmmmmm!
- Watch out for the taxi's in Newport - they can be right rip-offs! [Okay, I suppose that can happen anywhere, but they often seem to "speed-up" the meter if they think you're drunk... so keep an eye open!]
- Hmmn nope nothing
- pill aint that much of a ghetto except for dolphin street and duffryn aint that bad either
- townies blow goats
- puff
- We cant fit in any decent shops,,,,,sort it arttt.
- the people of Newport
Great absolutely stunning couldnt wish to meet nicer people
- Newport = Gr8 compared to other places! I 2 thought Newport was the shitest place on earth till I went on a 'holiday' to west Wales and realised the little there is to do there compared to Newport! Least we have cinema, mega bowl, clubs and loadsa clubs 2 go!
- I lived in Newport for a long while and to be honest, it is violent, dull, boring and to be frank very racist. It is a place full of ignorant bullies and girls who wear to much make up and have too little style. If i had stayed in Newport i would have ended up in prison, yet the people of Newport can be interesting and loyal and hardworking, the people of Newport know how to have fun and like to play.
- Famous Hero's
Ian Drury (probably was hitting everybody in High Street on a Friday night with his Rhythm Stick) went to Newport Art college.
How about a bit more for the over 50's
- The wave is fantastic and so are those weird statues by McDonalds.
- I lived in Newport for 11 years and compared to where I live now (Worksop - check it out) its ace. Everyone who lives there be grateful that there is a nightlife in the town and u have got decent shops - compared to Worksop anyway.
- Newport is full of the thickest people I have ever met.
- Don't be too quick to slag Newport off. I did for years (being a sophisticated Cardiff dweller, you see). Then I actually visited the place and found it isn't at all bad.
- Networking- to all the people who complain that newport is depressing, boring,
etc etc. Well get off your butt and network. go to other skate spots and clubs.
Cardiff has a pretty good range of skate spots around the city centre, it has
Ifor Bach and Metros too. You'll make new friends. Chepstow isn't that bad either
and the Castle and the Three tuns in are always good for a laugh on a week night.
Swansea - get out there to the uni and visit the zone - top rock and punk night.
For a little bit of a cash (ie the cost of a rail card) you could be lying on the beach
of three cliffs bay, partying in a different pub or bar every night, finding
new skate spots and doing the mumbles mile and saving your sanity. oh but i
forgot that would mean that you would have to actually venture into the train station
another place that everyone seems to hate so much!!!
- Whoever said Subway are the best thing in Newport need to clean their ears out. Have you heard Kyle Fuckity's singing. He has an awful voice, sounds like a foghorn. You are not, and never will be the next Stone Roses so stop trying to be!
- watch out for the alarming amount of flashers that are around recently
- Saying Newport's like well friendly and things is true, but it has to be said, I've seen a lot of cities like Cardiff, Birmingham and Stoke, and they don't see the kind of nonsense that tends to crop up down the town of a weekend.
- newport is a great town im soon to move back there and i wish newport all the luck in beind a city
- It's v. depressing that some people who live in the town like to slag it off. MY message is if you don't like it, piss off elsewhere. I want Newport to rediscover its heart which has been ripped out by successive councils who would pimp their grannies for any kind of jobs, no matter how menial and low grade. Over the years we have replaced old historic buildings such as the Lyceum theatre with 60s and 70s monstrosities. I accept that Newport will never win awards for aesthetic beauty but it has many merits. I am not even a native of the town having lived there for 5 years but I can honestly say that I regard it as home. We have problems but none that are not faced elsewhere.
- Subway are the best band this side of the seven bridge. Check out www.supersubway.co.uk
- The programme shown on BBC was one of the most pointless things I hav eever watched. So, Newport is supposed to be the most violent town in the UK? Right. I'm not diputing that but this programme did not really show any of it. You talk tokids and bus drivers anywhere in this country and it would be exactly the same. Anywhere that has estates with predominately young families will be exactly the same. If they wanted to show Newport violence, they should have shown more of the arseholes (who incindently mostly come from the valleys) that come out of the clubs at 2:30 looking for a fight with a "Hard" Newport lad. That's the violence that si mostly around. Everywhere has it's fair share of violence but it they are going to do a programme on it, for god's sake show the real stuff, not just the kids who are hanging around the streets because they have nothing else to do. That happens everywhere!
- I'M FROM A SMALL TOWN IN CARMARTHENSHIRE, AND I'VE NEVER BEEN TO NEWPORT. BUT QUITE FRANKLY I NEVER WANT TO. IT WAS ON BBC'S WEEK IN WEEK OUT THIS WEEK, AND BY THE SOUNDS OF IT, NEWPORT MAKES NEW YORK LOOK SAFE. NEWPORT BOYS LOOKED THICK AS SHIT, AND EVERYONE WHO LIVES THERE WANTED TO GET OUT. NEWPORT : OFFICIALLY WORST PLACE IN WALES, BRITAIN, EUROPE, PLANET EARTH.....
- According to government research, there are more registered alcoholics in Newport than in Glasgow.
- Newport does not have the only working transporter bridge in the UK. There's a larger working example in Middlesbrough, which is illuminated at night time.
- Newport is a pile of crap but it is getting better - they're building a new shopping centre opposite the train station and the Leeway is getting good, cinema, bowling etc.
- Hunt sab group is quite good :- PO Box 70, Newport, gwent
- If you folks think Newport is a dump - Try Dursley in Glos.
- DULL, DULL, DULL, DULL! - That's right Newport is one of the crappiest places on the face of the planet. I have to take my hat off to someone somewhere 'cos you couldn't create a bigger dump if you set out to. Some efforts have been made to improve the place - weird statues on every street, the Newport "Wave" (what were they thinking), a strange giant mechanical clock etc. etc. but the end result just looks like some kind of demonic theme park. Newport has no style, no sense of it's own history and is going nowhere. As for the nightlife - it sucks. Yeah there are a lot of pubs but that's mainly because there's nothing else to do, and if you're not an alcoholic after being here or a couple of months then you soon will be. As for the clubs - well, if you've never been out of South Wales and suffer from several generations of inbreeding then you'll probably think they're great (and most locals would agree). Conclusion - if you were born and brought up here then it's probably too late. If not avoid the place at all costs (any prospective students considering Newport should think twice and then give themselves a good kicking for thinking once). Put it this way if a town lists "the only working transporter bridge" as one of it's plus points then you should know what to expect and Newport delivers in spades. As for me I'm off on the next carthorse out of here.
- This is the one of the ugliest places on earth. The only good thing about it is that it's close to the M4 and so you can go to Cardiff or England. Do not stay longer than you need to!
- The worst thing about Newport is the fact that there are loadsa cheap shops, you know the one's where they sell everything for 50p these are really ugly and kind of sum up the atmosphere in Newport- CRAP. It is close to the M4 but then again you need it to escape, basically Newport is ugly and a bit backwards in coming forwards (they still think that there are coal mines open or something) and I've lived there for 14 years.
- dont forget the fabulous footie team
