You can tell us more about Northampton.

Pubs
  • Where can I get a pint of Newcastle Exhibition in Northampton, please some one must sell it I am an ex geordie with withdrawel symptoms
  • North Star in Kingsthorpe has just been taken over by new mgmt (again!), however, they now have a new menu (including childrens menu, real ales, sky sports, an "After work club" (cheaper prices on selected brands) between 3 & 6pm every weekday, they are open for breakfast from 10am every morning and have live music alternate fridays and karaokes the other .... this friday is a 70's and 80's disco starting from 7pm.This pub has a great atmosphere and welcomes families as well as people just wanting to have a drink and a laugh!
  • Like the Fish.
  • the king billy a wicked place to hang out. allowed in aged 16 years with your mates, but make sure you have a coke the bar staff get annoyed if you dont
  • More Pubs than people.
  • RACEHORSE no doubt there. Picturedrome is nice. The one on fish street is good too.
  • The King Billy (Biker Pub) Racehorse (Alternative Pub) The Charles Bradlaugh (Posh Pub - Serves food) The Pennywhistle (Student Pub) Molly's (80's Music Bar) NB's Bar (Used to be a Goth Bar, Trendies took over) Bar Soviet (Every vodka imaginable)
  • The halfway house- you can do whatever you want in there (skunk and beugal).
  • I whole heartedly reccomend the pig and whistle in blackthorn and the duke of york in kingsthorpe. Go there and find out for yourself, even bring the family!
  • Shipman's - one of the longest-serving pubs in town is a must for serious retro buffs who want to know what pubs were like during the Second World War. I'm being serious, the place is in a timewarp, and it's no bad thing! The Old Bank (formerly the Rat and Parrot) has a cosy atmosphere and big comfy settees, ideal for a relaxing lunch break during a particularly hard day at work.
  • Racehorse
  • Race horse. Nice
  • The Lord Byron on Kingsley Park Terrace is truly horrible. It used to be a shoe shop and is now a watering hole for drunken neds...avoid it if you like your face the way it is!
  • It's gots to be the Racehorse chuck
  • try the riflebutt on harlestone rd
  • The Moon On The Square is incredibly boring. Sir Pickering Phipps, The Punch and Judy and the Workhorse all fine. DON'T bother with the Bird In Hand unless you want a crowbar across the conk.
  • The Checker in rotheresthorpe, good fun, free pool monday 8-10, owner is a kwl person
  • Pubs are silly
  • moon on the square is nice
  • Bar-Me(i'm being serious) it's cheap, nasty, filled with vodka swilling ned tossers and the clientel look pre-pubescent
  • Staying at the Lodge studio next door to the Racehorse which seems nice...i think
  • The Queen Vic!!! no, only joking, probably the best would be The Quays at billing, near the aquadrome.
  • Most of the wellie rd. The little pub half way down gold st on the rigth hand side well worth just the 1 beer to cheer you up, and make life seem a lot better than it really is.The Moon On the Square cheap beer and good starting point for town pubs also good for people watching.
  • In town there's loads of trendy pubs and a couple have late licenses at the weekend which is cool but you may get bottled for being a 'fucking greebo shit'. The racehorse is full of alternative types but aint cheap. The Penny Whistle is a student bar full of students, funnily enough. Pretty much analternative crowd in there. King Billy is full of friendly bikers. The Charles Bradlaugh is a bit out of the way but big and really cool, all types can go there and have a nice time.
  • Saddlers (near to Revolution) - just undergone redecoration has awesome DJ on Monday nights, check it out!
  • Enough already! Far too many of the bloody things.
  • The best pub in Northampton has still go to be the Racehorse, I go back in there every time I go back to Northampton and stay for the whole weekend. Shame that Yvette has lets but you can still get the dismisive, sarcastic Pete to serve you a pint. He only seems to remeber your name if you plat cricket with him. Stop playing and he will forget your name again. Oh and of course the bradlaugh every weekend for after hours.
  • The Charles Bradlaugh is Class on a stick, its a converted Shoe Factory (because we we used to make quality shoes in Northampton, unlike Taiwan)it's next to the Chronicle and echo, although any underage peeps are unwelcome as sophistication is essential.
  • Whitehills in kingsthorpe is the by far the best pub in the county
  • The patriot on gold street is a great a place to start a night on the town the landlord BJ is a great bloke his mad on the royal family but remembers everyones face. you also have to try his scorpian vodka
  • If you fancy being insulted by an insignificant little shit bag at last orders, then the racehorse is the pub for you. With appealing decor and a wide spectrum of clientelle, from embittered goths to embittered potato headed rockers and the customary fuck off with a smile at quarter to eleven its the only place to be.
  • Goose on 2 streets in remarkably cheap and awfully nice. Try any weatherspoon for drinks promotions and penny whistle as a student dive! Dont go in the spread eagle or jolly anchor... unless you like that kinda thing.
  • The Sir Pickering Phipps on Welly Rd, nice but gets really busy at weekends. Lloyds No1 is good during the day and on weeknights, weekends aren't so good. The Charles Bradlaugh & Picturedrome are really nice and they're far enough out of the town centre so as not to have any trouble.
  • The King Billy and The RaceHorse are the best two pubs ever....you get a wide range of different interests in both of them...and they both have a good duke box (no crappy CD's)
  • i to have had the pleasure or should i say endurance of meeting 'dovey', he led me to believe he was once a great kick boxer?? but i too agree if you meet him out and about then be sure to tag along and have a drink, the night will be amusing to say the very least!!
  • depends on your scene but heres a list of but a few - pennywhistle, charles bradlaugh, lloyds, wetherspoons, moon on the square, rat & parrot, racehorse, mollys, revolution (vodka bar)
  • you wanna go to the pennywhistle or the racehorse. The racehorse is a bit of a hole and the staff are a bit shite but the music they play is good and the drinks are cheap. and they have funny fun house mirrors in the loos. the penny is expensive unless yo have a yellow card, but has a nice atmosphere on thursdays, fridays and saturdays, and also plays good music to listen to whilst getting merry. a good place to go to before heading off to either the lounge or soundhaus
  • Get yourself down the Dirty Men's Club in Bozeat, and witness a man named Unwin pump £100 in the fruity and get wasted on the sauce he loves every night!
  • RACEHORSE....SHIPMANS.....TOWNISBAD
  • racehorse
  • The Moon On The Square - cheap beer but exceedingly boring and populated by hairy-faced lefties in green parkas. The Bird In Hand - don't even THINK about this place, you'll get killed. The Rat and Parrot - it's sort of okay. The Racehorse and Romany - disaster areas, and the managers are hard-faced gits. The best advice I can offer you here is stay at home with a few cans.
  • Well Brierley's has a tendancy towards letting 'Fresh faced' people buy their lovely cheap alcohol! Specially the white magik cider which gets you pissed on half a bottle!
  • Decadence oh yes
  • The Pickering Phipps & Penny Whistle on Wellingborough Rd are great. The Picturedrome and The Charles Bradlaugh are also great. The Bradlaugh is licensed to serve until 1am, why aren't there more? Balloon in Bridge St is nice, but the town centre's often rowdy at weekends.
  • Yates' wine bar - (dychurch/ridings)
  • The Billy - aka the King Billy, The King William IV - at the bottom of the drapery. dont let the bikes outside scare you... it serves real ale, and a live band each Sat. however, dont forget to read The Rules - which include: no trendies allowed. a real mix of people, 20s to 70s, rockers, punks, goths, 80s throwbacks, some hippies, and everyday folk who want a different scene.
  • Wig and Pen. A seriously undermined and forgotten pub with a nice, relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. The food is exceptional too. On a Thursday night, its Blast Chamber in pub form there. Its traditional but cool. Penny Whistle and Moon on the Square are good too.
  • very towny is npton... revolution is ok at the moment as its new.. lloyds is ok.. aways a starting point (cheap deals), yates - full of your mates mums\dad trying to pull you.
  • Penny Whistle and Moon on the Square are nice, comfortable pubs. Penny Whistle caters for the student crowd whereas Moon on the Square caters of everybody. Both serve quite cheap drinks too...bonus!
  • Too many bloody pubs. Quantity over quality. Always best to go out with your mates as there is safety in numbers!
  • racehorse lots of greebos and goths. good fun. not too fussy bout ID.... Penny whistle, good lots of people very fussy about id at moment i think they got sprung serving to underage people. OOPS
  • Penny Whistle is the way forward. Moon on the square and any other Weatherspoons are cheap and usually busy! Punch and judy, or if youre hardcore, Racehorse. Breaks snooker/pool club down derngate is good if you like that kinda thing. You might be forced to listen to garage music by the barmaid tho.
  • Pubs smell
  • The best place in naughtyhampton is the penny whistle on wellington street. Why is it not mentioned before?! Thursdays is indie night, playing really good tunes that you can drunkenly sream along to with your mates. Drinks are reasonably priced, you can get a double for 20p more (also, tell the bar staff its your birthday & they'll give you a 'yellow card' it gives you discounts on drinks an free admittance to various clubs. The Bar staff are all really cool and quite foxy! but take i.d with you cos they're quite strict on the door but lovely with it.
  • OBL (old black lion) near the train station, karaokee on sat nights, good atmosphere, prices are alright, quality place.
  • Wetherspoons! Cheap - like the budgie!!
  • The Picturedrome on Kettering Road is fine, but there are just too many damn pubs here.
  • All the best ones have either been refurbished or ruined. Again, my advice is get a few beers in and spend a peaceful evening with your home entertainment, and no risk of getting decked by townies in Reebok fleeces. Molly's Bar is weird - posters of sixties rockers on the walls, same old mind-numbing chart crap on the loudspeakers!
  • the penny whistle is deffinatly the best pub in town and with the new sofas there is now no reason to leave.
  • The Fish serves the best pint of Theakstons Old Peculiar and always has loads of guest beers. Its opposite the new Yates wine lodge.
  • Bradlaugh, but not if your a towny. if looking for cheap then lloyds
  • Rat and Parrot in St Giles Street, Charles Bradlaugh next to Chronicle and echo offices.
  • the older the clientel the better and more relaxed the pud
  • racehorse-pennywhistle- student joints, great laugh - penny has a great jukebox. cuba libre is a good place, as is beamhouse. tabasco jaz is amazing - you have to go. ballon is good, bar soviets naff, moon on the square is cheap - welly road is a great pub crawl. if your outta twon eastway, got the clicker on booth lane south - great drinks, and great chips (with bacon and cheese...mmm!)
  • Penny whistle say no more
  • Avoid the pubs that have FBI (Full Blown Informers)on the door. They are reputed to have a special police account set up by the son of Ted Young and the late "Supergrass" Eddie. So it has been alledged.
  • Every1 must experience the hallowed race-horse festivals! £2 usally for charity but go buy your booze from mickeys newsagent on the welly road! they really do not care if your 18 or not.(probally owned by the same people who own the lounge!) While im waffling bout thel ounge go on a thurs night, and stay on the top floor "indie classics" i think ,but not really- think nirvana limp Bizkit and time warp!!
  • Go to the White Elephant.
  • bar soviet is the place to be on a monday - get smashed for half the price of any other pub in town- fridays and saturdays is still the cool over 21 crowd but the managers is a fit /@***
  • I like that pub (I cant remember the name) next to Visage - its decent in there and the staff are friendly too.
  • the racehorse, the pennywhistle
  • We drink in the Pig & Wistle in Blackthorn. it is a great pub if you want to get glassed or offered drugs
  • Are almost all crap in Northampton. The Wedgewood is again full of anti-aging cream users (proof that the stuff actually works). ACTUALLY, THE BEST PUB LET ALONE IN NORTHAMPTON BUT IN THE WHOLE OF BRITAIN IS BAR SOVIET!!!!
  • Wellingborough road, nuff said.
  • moon on the square dammit!!! no irritating music in the background and there's always a cheap 'special' smooth on every week...lovely
  • Too many to list!
  • yo, i work at the auctioneers( only for the time being) what you said aBOUT THE PUB IS BULLSHIT. THE STAFF ATTITUDE IS GOOD. I CAN'T SAY ANYTHING ABOUT THE BOUNCERS. YOU WILL BE GLAD TO HEAR THAT I AM MOVING TO THE PENNYWISTLE SOON SO THERE YOU GO. the pennywistle rocks.
  • Racehorse garden, weekends.
  • The Workhorse, the Beamhouse, the Rat & Parrot, the Penny Whistle. AVOID the Racehorse as it's full of hairy-arsed elderly hippies and hoodied grebos. Also, avoid the Bird in Hand as you will die if you venture inside.
  • Pennywhistle is my place. There's also the Racehorse and Molly's Bar.
  • Snooker club on Barrack road has nappy nights, every night....but no underage drinking occurs.......honest
  • Leeds based student returns "home". My god, how N'ton has changed in the last 5ish years. Def'y getting to be a good night out (I couldn't wait to get out all those years ago!). Just needs another flash club or some of the nice bars to get late licences!. Come on magistrates, get with the times!!!!!
  • Check out the phenomena that is Dovey. He can be seen most weekends frequenting most bars in true beer boy style. Be careful though, after one too many he can become a little frisky! NB He has been known to do some crazy things....but you will have to ask him about that!
  • Picturedrome and Charles Bradlaugh look nice, the Racehorse doen't.
  • yup, everyone agrees that the Welly Road crawl is the perfect start to the evening but for those of us whose crippling shoes prevent the necessary 1mile walk from happening, i would like to suggest that a touir of the town centre bars can be equally as cheap, and fun and slightly more classy. The Moon on the square is alwys a good place to start getting trollied, with bottles of some beer being less than £1!Moving down the Drapery, Auctioneers always seems to be popular although i have never seen the attraction-too much atitude from the staff and bouncer if you ask me!Across the road, Hogshead is a quiter place for those shy retiring types to drink their stout and mingle with the old folks. it is down in the bridge street area however that things get going. Bar Soviet can be a bit expensive, but it's strict over 21's policy means that a sophisticated crowd sip thier flavoured Vodkas here. The fat Cat across the road is fuh and cheap in a similar way to the Rat and parrot but can get busy at the weekend( both serve good food during the day btw). Tabasco jaz, a new pub will b opening soon and it certainly seems to me that all these derelict old hotels etc are being put to good use. On wednesdays, TP Woods' 2 for the price of 1 drinks offer has to be taken of b4 going into Visage, where no one can afford to drink anyway!!
  • Personel favorites - based on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saterdays. Bosten Cliper, good relaxed atmos with pool tables- good meeting point. Spoofers -now closed- best pre-club pub. Cuba-Libra wicked cocktails and rammed everytime. Bar Soviet - vodka bar. Wig and Pen good central location with good garden. Saddlers good atmos as is Aucioneers. For quiter drink head for Moon on Square, Hogshead or Beamhouse. Lloyd's No 1 over 21's on FRI and SAT full of trevs and goths and grebs on Thursdays. Rat Parrot excellent for quiet drink.
  • Northampton has DEFINITELY got better over the past five or so years.... Pubs wise, all the derilect buildings in town seem to have been turned into pubs , rather than them stand empty......My personal favourite is the 'Charles Bradlaugh, next to the Chron&Echo. You don't have to dress like a ponce to get in, and if you just want a drink you can.( but sing along to the juke box if you can)...Staff are great too (some attractive, some not), and during the day you can eat. Food is reasonable too, with a large bowl of chips for 95p, also a wide range of other stuff. The pub is on two levels, upstairs is good if you wanna relax with a pint. At night though the atmosphere changes, more intense...But friendly, and not the 'fakeness' of certain pubs in the centre of town....
  • quite a few
  • My personal favourite is Penny Whistle. It's new, right at the Abby Road end of the Welly Road...halfway between a bar and a pub, classy, loads of tables but a long bar. Spirits are soooo cheap, especially with the student card and they do the tastiest voddy slush (like vodka slush puppy!) Loads of Sky TVs and great music. Cheapest pub I've been in is Gardener's Arms, especially in weekdays. Crown and Cushion is also good.
  • The Penny whistel is by far the cheapest, but full of twats on a saturday night.
  • My Favoruite must be Woods, I have my own little table by the window and me and a mate have adopted a gorgeous barmaid each(not that they know it!!!)
  • Outside Northampton in Kingsthorpe is the best pub in the world, THE COCK. The beer is good too. Watch out for the karaoke on a monday, and a bloke called Jonah who does a mean common people. Say hi to him afterwards and buy him a drink.
  • * The only decent way to precede a good night down the lounge is to complete the Welly Road Run. Traditionally this was restricted to the left side of the road (heading into town) but recently the advent of new pubs has meant the right hand side has come into use. Anyway, here's my idea of the perfect pub combination *Start at the 'Crown and Cushion' preferably in daylight so you can sit in the garden under an umbrella drinking a pint of cider (avoid going inside because the average age is 59) Leave when you realise most people that arranged to turn up aren't going to. * Move on to 'The Old House at Home' which supposedly has a homely atmosphere. Drink Jack Daniels and coke and start singing along to jukebox songs, if you get bored can always watch TV. Leave when people remember they are meeting others up the road at 9:00. *You can't avoid going into the 'Talerax' no matter how hard it is attempted. Get bought Budweiser and watch drunk people dancing on the square metre of dancefloor. Leave when you loose the will to live. *Move on the 'Fiddler Magwires' and get kicked out as soon as entry is attempted but get friend to buy you a malibo and down it outside, keep the glass to get the tight Irish gits back. *Finaly stagger down to the oasis of pub land 'Punch and Judy' where eventually all people come to rest. Settle in one of the tall circular tables at the back and try bribing people to buy you chicken flavour crisps which fails dismally. Avoid man who keeps telling you, you have nice hair and begin drinking Archers and lemonade quickly followed by straight Archers. Sing to beatles songs and try to steal cigarettes off passing strays, spend most of night asking people time so you're not too late to get into the lounge which is free before 10:30. *If you realise that you are far too early after leaving 'Punch and Judy's' pop into 'Butlers' one the right hand side(traitor) in a technically town centre part of town. Have shot of alcohol and try to find toilets, give up and sit by window staring at passers by. Finally leave and hoist yourself about trying to look old enough to get into lounge (not hard, they ID bugger all people) *I know this is the wrong section but you can't complete to Welly road run if you don't stagger out of the lounge at 2:00 and go into (pay attentio) KFC on the left and buy hideously expensive tiny burger and horrible chips, which by this time you think is the best investment you'll ever make and eat in taxi queue which sobers up any lightweight because of the years it takes to get to the front. *Thank you for reading my labourous report on one of the oldest traditions in Britain, get drinking!! * NOTE Best place to vomit is outside 'Punch and Judy'
  • Go to the Britannia or Billing Mill for a quiet drink near the river on a sunny afternoon. Alternatively, go to the racehorse any night, it's excellent, especially when a band called JR Loaded play the back room.
  • Whoever wrote mst of these does not know Northampton, or they are so old they have forgotten the meaning of fun. By far and away the best drinking pub in Northampton is The Crown and Anchor off the Wellingborough Road. If your looking for a good night out however, spend some money on a train ticket to London, just less than an hour to Euston, and have some REAL fun
  • Mollies in Chapel Place - vaguely reminiscient of the bar in Star Wars. Fitchet + Firken, Bridge Street, - sort of biker place, now a bit gothic, but good beer.
  • too many to mention, but yep the racehorse is good if not scarry at the weekend
  • Mulleners is one good nightly pub hopping hangout. Don't forget to stop by the Dog and Duck in Wellingborough that is a good sight to catch a good game and drink some beer. They do a brilliant fireworks display every year. Well worth a look. Also try out the Fish for a nice afternoon slush. Try the pub called LumberTubs for a nice quit evening, if you're looking for a fight go to Top of Town, (this might be closed now).
  • Best thing about Northampton are Pub Crawls along the Wellingborough Road, pubs to include Old House at Home, Gardeners Arms, Talareks (if you must) - be quick or you'll never make it to town before closing time!
  • Best pub for afternoon drinking has to be the Racehorse in Abington Square. Though not for the faint-hearted.
  • The Newt and Cucumber is a cheap/good pub in the town centre.
  • The Spinney Hill on the Kettering Rd is a great pub for sitting outside with the kids - they have swings and lots of space for football etc and they do a good BBQ in the summer. Not just for families though....there's a good mix of people.
