Anyone can open a bank account in a business name - whather you are bankrupt, banned by companies house etc. All the can do is stop him from setting up a limited company or plc. What they cannot do is stop him from being a sole trader which a "trading as" account normally is. Basically, people with "trading as" accounts are dodgy as hell & sooner

  Why not give them a ring on the number listed on the CH website. Ask them if they are still collecting monies for a charity that no longer has a contract with them.
  
  Basically this company and the like collect monies for advertising on wallplanners that are not distributed in any meaningful way. And the charity (when their was one) got a tiny fraction of the profits. I can say without fear of contradiction that you have been scammed out of your 500 pounds.
  
  I strongly recommend contacting The Daily Mirror, Companies House, Trading Standards, The Charity Commission about this company.

I can't tell you if they are still trading or not; but if you have a look at the Companies House website it says that Armstrong Faith Ltd (Chestnut Houses other name)is being struck off by the DTI. Chestnut House itself is not a limited company, so there'
  s no way of tracing them or claiming anything back off the liquidators if you paid (CH not AF). However, as they are not a limited company, the owners (Lisa Colford & Andy Garside) are personally liable for the company debts - you should sue them if you feel you have been cheated out of your money.

I thought of offering to have a go but I really only deal in small claims stuff so I'm hoping that either a Solicitor will offer their services for free or that the Mirror will help them out. I agree with Sigma about the money being squandered but I bet there's some left

  The Honeyrose Foundation are saying that although they have cancelled their contract with Chestnut they are continuing to sell advertising space and collect the money in, in their name. At the same time they are refusing to pay Honeyrose the money they owe them. The charity have taken legal advice and been told that it would be very costly to pursue this and we all know how good these people are
  at making money disappear into thin air (or their own back pockets). Honeyrose have contacted the Mirror and are waiting to hear back. Fingers crossed but it's not looking good.

  I too spotted the similarities on the FAQ page and was also interested to note that AP say they've been running for 5 years but at the bottom of their website it says 2008. I would wonder why they only got the website up and running this year. Possibly the company name has been on the shelf for the last 5 years but has now been taken down, dusted off and put into use.
