The Stuff We Can't Fit In Somewhere Else
- When I was growing up we nevr called Oulton 'Oulton' it was always 'Oldton' ... or Oldt'n strange that name now never surfaces...
- theres lots of ducks.
bye...............................................
- Fishing; in oulton broad fresh water; or sea fishing; ranges in quality, but enjoyble.
North bersus south of the river; these two distinct populations are practically different species in their own eyes; hard to believe locals can still hold such beliefs in the beginning of the twenty first centuary
- Yacht station offers excellent mooring facilities and is ideal as a base for holiday spent sailing broads.
- Nicholas Everett Park - tramploines, crazy golf, putting, tennis, bowling greens, fishing children's playground, boating lake, Lowestoft Museum, cafe, bandstand/concerts, swimming pool, benches along side broads to watch boats etc, see gorgeous broads-viewing houses.
- Marshes to walk and see wildlife, peaceful countryside, and able to walk to Beccles from marshes.
- Small shops, daily river tours, embroidery/tapestry shop.
- Broadlands Hotel, with indoor swimming pool, sauna, jaccuzzi, etc.
- Two train stations Ipswich and Norwich.
- Able to walk along side river, leading to the sea, to Normanston Park.
- Wind surfing facilities.
- New Tanning Centre - to top up your tan in 5 minutes.
- Broadland Holiday Village - mooring facilities, children's play area, games room, indoor heated pool, sauna, solarium, fitness room, watersports activities centre.
- Wherry Hotel, function facilities, suitable for weddings, etc, carvery, restaurant, excellent A La Carte menu, discos - friday and sunday nights extremely busy, all day discos bank holiday mondays, free admission on friday and sunday's I think. Lovely accommodation most rooms with view of broads or Oulton Broad. Conference facilities.
- Serious omission in your report on Oulton Broad, Suffolk. It's got the International Boatbuilding training centre which visitors can visit and see the trainees at work building traditional timber boats. Excellent examples of a fine art.
- Best thing: The fireworks display over the broads on August Bank Holiday. Everyone (yes, the whole population of Oulton Broad) goes, and all the boats on the broad toot their horns afterwards. I hear it's good to watch the fireworks from the Comodore pub. Worst thing: Trying to cross the bridge in the middle of August. The new bridge has helped the congestion, but they still seem to open the bridge on Saturday afternoons in summer when the whole area is full of tourists, just to let one yacht through!
