  • Wok and Roll (Woodstock Road, opposite junction with Little Clarendon Street) is our favourite Chinese takeaway. Very nice food and friendly staff.
  • The Noodle Bar in Glouchester Green.
  • Meltz Sandwich Shop on Queen Street, La Patisarie St. Aldates, The noodle bar on the market square. Little place off cornmmarket who sell good sandwiches and have a wide choice. Even choice ur salsd dressing.
  • Eamayl on park end is interesting for cheap all you can eat chinese. And there's an indian on High st near chequers that's doing some attractive sounding special offers - check the tripping-overly obvious board outside.
  • loads, la luna caprisa (north parade) traditional italian, good , not pretentious, Bilash in Botley, fishers on st clements the white hart in wytham is really nice Food at Quod is good but the atmosphere is awful unless you like someones A*se in your face while your trying to eat
  • Bangkok House near Bar Risa is absolute qulaity thai food and the Cowley Road curry houses are top notch.
  • Old Orelans. That's all I can say. That and Begian waffles!! :oD
  • Maxwell's on Queen Street sells the best cocktails, all their cocktails and food are served by the cutest waitresses and with their massive student discounts you wont be able to go home. Forget Kebab vans you can get great kebabs there when the lights go down and the dancing starts. First rate Maxwell's Im hooked!!!
  • Wok 23 for the best cheaper Chinese.
  • Felsons and Mortons do the best baguettes by far in the whole of Western Europe!
  • good for japanese - edamame on holywell st and gashi gashi on cowley. quality restaurants in oxford died with the owner of the elizabeth. rip mate. hassan's rules the world of kebabs and that's the end of that.
  • Le Petit Blanc is lovely for a special occasion. Saw Rory McGrath in there one evening!
  • If it's an Indian you are looking for you cannot beat 'Samad's' on Park End Street, just before the Train Station. It is THE best curry I have ever had. Also if you spend over £12.00 you get extras like Bombay Potatoes, Poppadoms all thrown in free! The Staff are friendly, the decors nice, the foods cheap and fresh. I will not go anywhhere else in Oxford now. Give 'em a go!
  • Why oh why has no-one mentioned the RICE BOX on Cowley Road (conveniently near the Bricksworks)? It is excellent food, fast service, eat in or takeaway and not too pricey (£20 for two, including drinks) and we were stuffed!!!!!!!
  • OK, come on, the best place for cheap but wholesome eats is the Oriental Cafe, george street: Bowls of rice with brisket, duck or pork and sauces for under £5. with a fast food character to service, typically crowded with South East Asian students tucking into soul food.
  • The best sandwiches are probably Pret a Manger (Yes, I know it's owned by McDonalds but the sandwiches really don't taste it.) Brothers in the covered market's good but really expensive. Bon Appetit is really good value but a bit of a mission to get there.
  • Benz Cookies in the covered market, the best cookies in the country! Crunchy, yet crumby with warm gooey chocolate!
  • Fools! have you not discovered the truly magnificent Excelsior Cafe in the Cowley Road? Serving proper English haut (about ankle high actually) cuisine, with plenty of brown sauce and ketchup (a cheap vinegary one, not Heinz's naturally) to cover up the taste. Menus are provided, but you don't need one - just point to something on the waiter's jacket.
  • Le Petit Blanc is nowhere as pricey as you would expect and the service is very friendly. Go on a mid week night and people watch. Celebs, ordinary folk and a few precious ones but it's a good night
  • Bacon Butty - Morton's in the Covered Market do the BEST all-day breakfast. I'm missing it like crazy since I came to London
  • La Gousse D'Ail, 268 Woodstock Road. According to the Good Food guide Oxfords finest restaurant............its not wrong. Save up your euros, pounds and roubles it is well worth a visit. Fantastic food, grreat service and dead trendy layout. www.lagoussedail.com
  • You CAN get a decent bacon butty in Oxford - in the Covered Market - it is not posh!!
  • Man oh man - get out of the centre and enjoy Le Petit Blanc (in Jericho). Bring your marigolds its not cheap, but f*ck me is it good. Oh, and if you're really flash head out to 'Le Manoir a Quatre Saisons'. Raymond Blanc's main place - mostly home-grown ultra-fresh Organic. Bring a gold-card. Or two. Oops - nearly forgot 'Rosamund The Fair' (Jericho again) is a proper restraunt that takes u on a 3 hr cruise up the thames - forget the crap name floating restraunts usually have - this is ideal for intimate couples. Take the bird - she'll love you forever. About £100 plus wine for the two of you.
  • Kebab Kid, Mehdi's, Elegant Cuisine. For all those cravings for greasy food after a night on the piss. Why isn't there a Pizza Hut home delivery service in Oxford yet?????
  • Maxwells: doubles up as a cocktail bar later on excellent food and friendly fast service gorgeous waitresses but slightly over priced
  • Pierre Victoire is a good place to take your parents. Try the Cowley Road Asian restaurants. They're a cheery lot at the Akash Tandoori.
  • Try the covered market.
  • Chutneys is good for indian as is the Aziz up cowley Rd. Otherwise the Kebab vans, especially Ahmeds (Chicken, chips and cheese with salad, chilli sauce and garlic mayo is THE best). I've seen the Ahmeds van go until 6:30 in the morning, but they looked so pissed off I'm sure they must have pissed in the chilli sauce.
  • The Moonlight Indian on the London Road in Headington
  • Go to the Kari King on Cowley Road. Order a Chicken Tikka Roll. It's not on the menu but they'll know what you mean. Wash it down with a can of mango Rubicon. Enjoy. Mmmmmm...
  • During Eights' Week, the Oxford McDonald's serves Pimms!
  • The Kebab vans are great. Avoid the ones on George Street and Queen Street. Ahmeds is one of the best, great range and prices.
  • it seems to me that you have missed out one of the major parts of oxford food life - the kebab vans which are famous from here to banbury. Perhaps Houssains', on St Giles, Medhi on the High Street and Hassan on Broad Street should be worth a mention, simply because of the quality of their merchandise.
  • I have a bone to pick about food in Oxford-there are various levels of catering establishment-starting at cheapie burger bars and Chinese takeaways ending at £100 a meal joints for College professors. The service and quality in the former is predictably a prime example of cheap is cheap. These place use and manipulate cheap young labour all the time back of stage and can be very rude and unpleasant towards it.
  • Taylors (St Giles) do the best baguettes, though the staff can be arsey and prices are high. Hi Lo is a fantastic Jamaican restaurant on Cowley Road. No menu or fixed prices - they charge you according to how much they like you. Allow yourself a whole evening - the slow service is all part of the relaxed atmosphere.
  • It is IMPOSSIBLE to find a decent bacon butty in Oxford - too posh.
  • Browns George and Davis (good homemade icecream)
  • Kevin Francis Pie Shop in Headington - the best pies and biggest puddings in town.
  • The Aziz - Cowley Road and The Bombay - Walton St.
  • Convocation Cafe attached to St Mary The Virgin Church (or behind Radcliffe Camera) - homemade soups, breads, main entrees, veggie & otherwise, low prices (food not as good as Nosebag, but nice atmosphere of medieval windows etc.)
  • McDonalds, Burger King. I prefer Pizza Hut. Millies Cookies rule the cookie world.
  • Late night drinking and the Kari King is a must (the Kari on drinKing as it's known locally).
  • [But:] Whoa! Kari King! Flashback! Flasback! - be careful hereabouts, friends.
  • Mirsh Masala; Kari King for great spicy food (MM is cheaper, KK stays open later).
  • Berties for your Sunday lunch type things, hangover breakfasts and sandwiches.
  • For really great veg food and superb teas, try The Nosebag which is just off Cornmarket Street. Also great for tea is St. Aldates Tea Room - directly across from Christ Church College and Meadow.
  • My favorite is the Thai Orchid in St Clements - very expensive (£20 a head average, minimum + wine) - so save up, also the Bandung House in Walton Street.
  • You will find the best Indian restaurants in Oxford on the Cowley Road, but be prepared to pay for them. Unfortunately, because of the high student population in the area, most restaurants charge ridiculous prices. I find London cheaper to eat out in.
  • I've lived in Oxford since 1986 and have tried nearly every Curry House in the town. Bilash in Botley, Egon Ronay recommended - excellent Alkazar in Headington, slightly different but still excellent. Polash by the Railway Station - also excellent. Not impressed by the Cowley road ones! Also check out Chopsticks in the Cowley road - always good!
  • Old Orleans; American style restaurant/cocktail bar, excellent food, good service, great party atmosphere, definitely worth a visit. Fatty Arbuckles; another American style restuarant, very reasonable prices, big portions, good food.
  • I can highly recommend the Folly Bridge Inn on Abingdon Road. They serve lunch and dinner every day (except for sunday--no dinner) and their Apple Bread Pudding is the best I have ever had! I'm in America right now and what I wouldn't give for a slice of apple bread pudding with vanilla ice cream right now. It's not in the centre of town, but it's worth the ten minute walk.
