  • In Oxford you have two Odeons which are ok but recently had problems with air conditioning which want so pleasant. But out on Cowley Road theres a cute little independednt cinema called the Ultimate Picture Palace. When you arrive at The Victorian building, 1900's you recieve a raffle ticket as your proof of payement. Take a seat on a chair that wobbles slightly and see anything from Casablanca (shown especially for Valentines day earlier this year) to Tim Burton. They have a fantastic selection. They unfortunately do not have a refreshment stall so if you want munchies you can go the tescoes down the raod.
  • I would travel to Canada to see a film if it meant not having to see one in Oxford.
  • Phoenix - good for w*nky black and white russian arthouse crap, although it tends to attract floppy-haired student mongs.
  • Small...hot and stuffy. And rather run down. As long as you're basically the only person in there, the Odeons in town are ok. I think they need to hire some English-speaking staff though. ;o)
  • The Phoenix Cinema is the best place for art house films.
  • would say the UPP, but it's dodgy. it has to be the phoenix, cos the UPP doesn't do popcorn. what's the point of a cinema without popcorn eh?
  • The Pheonix. Obviously. Become a member, it's worthwhile. Cult films on a thursday night are always fun.
  • Nothing special unless you like student-cred arty films. No thanks.
  • Phoenix Jericho - converted porn cinema into an arty cinema. Good idea to just pay your fiver and go and see whatever the Sunday matinee is - broaden your horizons :-)
  • Oxford desperately needs an out of town cinema multiplex! Come on Warner Village, UCI etc do your magic.
  • The Phoenix picture house in Walton Street, Jericho will supply all your art film needs. Look out for regular midnight showings of 'This is Spinal Tap'.
  • For independant or foreign films, the Phoenix Picture House on Jeune Street is very good.
  • Phoenix and the Picture Palace
  • Book in advance for the Phoenix, as well as being well out of the centre, they always seem to sell out.
  • Ultimate Picture Palace on Cowley Road - great selection of films, fantastic atmosphere. Don't be put off by the primitive appearance - a cinema like you see in films.
  • Phoenix Picture House - Walton St. - Art House and a bit of mainstream. Late shows Thu, Fri, Sat
