  • one of Oxford's best secrets is its thriving vintage fashion shopping scene. Perhaps the savvy students like to keep it to themselves! Forget Portobello and get to the trendy Gloucester Green Market on a Thursday (it is where the Portobello and London dealers do their buying) you will bag a bargain! Think Oxfam with it's retro boutiques, it all started here in Oxford. The town has just one antiques centre, Antiques on High, but at least six of the showcases there are well stocked with gorgeous, original vintage costume jewellery, evening bags and accessories and there is a good selection of bargains in the clothing section too! Eccentric, crammed full of outfits and amazing is Unicorn in Ship Street, but you never know when it will be open. With The Ballroom at the Plain, Reign in the Cowley Road and Uncle Sams in Jericho plus a handful of great Charity Shops you will certainly be able to buy something to your taste, whether you seek Victorian, Art Deco, Hollywood Glamour, 1950s, Groovy 60s, retro 1970's or 1980's revival it is all there waiting to be snapped up! Oh and for great on-line shopping for vintage jewels and bags try www.bagthejewels.co.uk
  • Vintage Clothing and Vintage Costume Jewellery and Accessories go the Antiques on High at 85 High Street, Oxford, OX1 4BG. There are some funky clothes but there is stacks of amazing vintage costume jewellery and handbags from as old as Regency, Victorian, Art Deco, 1920's, 1930's, 1940's, Lots of Glitzy Hollywood style Diamante and Paste, 1950s' 1960's Mod and Retro right up to the 1980's. Great for Balls and Parties and not too expensive either! Its open every day so drop in! Caroline Henney (Vintage Costume Jewellery) in shop Mondays, Mary Davis( Vintage Clothing, Hats and Linens) in shop Thursdays. 01865 -251075
  • Tiger Lilly is the main purveoyr of 'alternative' stuff in oxford. On New Inn Hall Street they sell items by Lowlife, Omen, The laughing Vampire, Atticus, Die Pretty, XS Punk. They have a good range of band tees and can order in to your request. They also stock New Rock boots, some converse and doc martens; patches, fire poi, hair dye etc and smoking paraphinalea. Tiger Lilly can be expensive and thier goods are not known to last long. Cult Clothing off the Market Square in Gloucester Green is worth a look. They have some colourful and unique clothes but can be pricy. Watsons in the covered market have some cool t-shirts and their reasonably priced. Next To Nothing is also worth a visit for something different, they have some brightly coloured indian style clothing and hippy chic; also in covered market. Unicorn off cornmarket is a haven for the wild and wonderful. They have loads of retro cool items. Ussually not too expensive.
  • Multiple since the disposable income of most Oxford-based families is directly proportional to the amount of inbreeding that goes on. Billy who has a clef palate still needs clothes from River Island as much as the next mutant you know.
  • Cult, Gloucester Green Cargo, Friar's Entry off Magdalen Street
  • agnes B
  • Get a T shirt designed by the Fos himself - www.beatupfreddie.com
  • Just the normal which every town and city has. Not very original.
  • Normal High-Street shops (Topshop, The Gap, Dorothy Perkins, French Connection) are actually pretty good value here. But try the second-hand shops on Little Clarendon Street and Ship Street for quirkier wares.
  • charity shops, notably age concern on st. clements.
  • Uncle Sam's on little clarendon street is fun ('american vintage clothing'), but not really as good as you'd hope. There's a tiny little shop of ship street with an old woman in it keeping watch over hundreds of curious vintage items packed onto clothes rails they don't even slightly fit onto...
  • the Shopping centres are full of them and there is a fairly good selection and it shouldn't be to hard to find something u like, can be expensive in some places though
  • If you want designer shops try John Anthony(outskirts of westgate centre), Acorn (on turl street), Oaks (in covered market) and Gaff ( on broad street). All quality shops selling clothes from designers like Stone Island, Moschino, Hugo Boss and Armani.
  • Tiger Lily! Great if you're an indivual. Well, goth really. If you want really good clothes shops then get on a coach and go to Camden town in London!
  • Cult Clothing in Gloucester Green is the best place for jeans/ cords for men and women Uncle Sam's on Little Clarendon street is the best place for 2nd hand clothes.
  • Bad-boy boutique is always good for a laugh.
  • Hardly any now
  • SEED - trendy clothes and hairdressers on the roundabout at the end of Cowley Road. DNA - Another trendy clothes shop, along similar lines as Cult Clothing. Oslotuft - trendy, poseury clothes, but a bit on the expensive side.
  • Agnes B - the best clothes in Oxford by a long way
  • Cult Clothing - Gloucester Green
  • SS20. Cowley Road, East Oxford. Loads of other clothes shops.
  • For women: Kookai and Warehouse are good but small, Oasis is pretty good, Oxford has all the usual ones; TopShop, ProMod, Next, River Island etc... It's very rare that you can't find what you want somewhere in the city!
