- Virgin has been taken over and renamed Zavvi. It's still the same shop....!
- Avid Records in Gloucester green. Independent little place, staff know there stuff, good selection.
- In Glouscester green, just off George Street there is a cool little record store called AVID who have a good eclectic selection. Off the market square theres a little record shop that has some o the latest releases and is ussually cheaper than the big stores.
- Massive has shut down - it's gone! Disaster!
Avid Dance basement has also shut down - Another disater!
- Polar Bear Records, Cowley Road.
- Polarbear - Cowley Road
- Well...um...I would say HMV or Virgin, but everywhere has them and they're all the same, so nothing special.
- Polar Bear on Cowley Road, and another small used one right near the main bus station (Gloucester Green), on Victoria Court.
- avid is ok, 3 cds for a tenner, tho you'll have to be lucky. other than that stick to hmv or virgin. polar bear is usually a waste of space, as is that other one up cowley.
- Massive Records - Gloucester Green. You can find out about local/national gigs and but the tickets from here. They will order in any record if you canot find it and the staff are always willing to help.
- Avid records ,Gloucester Street
buys second hand ,sells allsorts
- Massive Records and Avid records are pretty good for bargains. As well as the monthly CD and record fair at the town hall on the 1st saturday of each month.
- HMV, Virgin Our Price, all easierly found in the town centre
- Try the Polar Bear on Cowley Road. Good selection of second hand.
- AVID records in Gloucester Green is a good place to buy second hand records and you can sell your old ones.
On the first Saturday of every month there is a large record fair held in the town hall.
- Massive, obviously, it's where Sasha gets his records from.
- Massive Records, Gloucester Green
Dance Section of HMV and they actually know their vinyl from their Lionel (Blair)!
- Massive Records take the piss with their prices a bit. £6 for a regular 12" is pretty steep. I'd reccomend you take your custom elsewhere, although unfortunately there aren't really any other independent dance shops. Try the regular record fairs though at the City Hall, they are well worth a look for getting cheap stuff and old records you've been after.
- Used to be some great ones catering for the very
sophisticated International crowd
- Chalkys has now sadly (and inexplicably) also closed too.
- Chalky's Records (George Street, opposite the Gloucester Green coach station) - excellent support for local music, a really tiny shop but the staff are usually friendly, the prices are good (especially on new release stuff), and they have some rare stuff. Good for semi-obscure indie, an ok dance selection. Avid Records (Gloucester Street, between the back of Gloucester Green and George Street) - second hand CDs, tapes and records bought and sold. Prices aren't too bad and there's usually a reasonable selection, including some rare stuff. Not much dance music.
- One large HMV, Our Price, though we've lost the Our Price on Cornmarket Street, but we've now got a Virgin Megastore...
- Manic Hedgehog Closed years ago... and the excellent Green River Records on the Cowley Road has also gone. Pip would gladly play anything you asked (except kiss chasing..). They were good for your indie distributors and had a cool picture of Bjork behind the counter for you pixie fans out there.
- Massive Records has a better selection of dance music than Green River records and the big names (HMV etc) and they'll play anything you like, do orders etc but some people think they're a bit tense. This isn't really fair. "Harassed" might be a better description. Note for skaters: Alex Moul works here
