Broadham Green by HEATHER (Member 10197188) on 14-Nov-2006
I have never been to Oxted but I feel I know a quite a bit about the area as I have been researching family history and my husband's Smith forbears all lived in Broadham Green and Limpsfield at least from 1793 to the 1920s.

When I visited 25 years ago, I stood in the churchyard of St Mary's and looked to the ridge. I could see a house on the ridge, beside the chalk pit. A25 as it disects old oxted. by Paul Collier (Member 10116092) on 29-Jan-2004
I live in caterham, and my children now attend Oxted school. I have been wondering recently why the A25 does not seem to follow the natural contour of the land. But seems to be built up on a manmade embankment. Any details as to why and when, would be greatfully received.

From what i can remember from school, Oxted comes from Oxtead which was originally from Oakstead due to all the oak trees that grew in the area.

I hope this is of some help, susan
