Did any of the older among you know any of my relatives? My mother was Violet Helen Spear before she married my father, Geoffrey Gordon Garbett (from Stafford). She was born in Cogan in 1920, and died in Leicester in 1987.

My uncles, John and Cyril Spear, and my aunt, Mary Spear, lived with my grandmother at 41, Salop Street. (John was a policeman and then a traffic warden, and Cyril was a hospital porter.) My grandmother died in Penarth in the 1970s.

My other uncles, George Spear and Tom Spear, had moved to Barry before I was born. I remember visiting them during my stays in Penarth as a child. Tom was married to Joan, and they lived at 8, Dyfan Road, Cadoxton.

They had a daughter called Kaye, who married a chap called Andy in the mid-Sixties and lived on a little estate in Penarth not far from Salop Street. Kaye and Andy had two little boys, Andrew and David, who were three and five respectively when I last played with them in 1969. I heard, circa 1982, that David had been killed in a car crash in South Africa at the age of eighteen.

Any memories would be greatly appreciated. I am wondering if any of my uncles are still alive, and how Kaye and Andy are getting on.

If you mum was there in 1950, perhaps she can remember us. We were the three Dennis sisters. I am sorry to say, that our beautiful Sea View was pulled down and the children moved to nearby Dinas Powys. They put up a block of flats in its pl ace. Please tell your mum that our field and woods across the street are now a posh retirement home. The rainbow tree is long gone. Tell her that Penarth hasn't changed too much. I was back there two years ago for a reunion for the girls who had attended Albert Road Girls school. If you mum is looking for photos of Sea View children, she can find them on the NCH website, using the search buttons on the left of the page under Wales Children. Good luck to your Mum. Does anyone know what happened to Richard Davies (Percy), from 2 Madoc Close, Dinas Powys? I guess he'd be about 37 now and went to St Cyres Dinas Powys and Penarth until 1985. Does anyone know where he is these days? Also does anyone remember Catrin Lewis fron Sunnycroft Rise Dinas Powys, think she'd be about 35/36 now and went to school somewhere in Cardiff? To our Family, friends and neighbours and those who would just simply like to know. We get many requests to keep people updated with what actually became of our 'Noah's Ark' Houseboat, M.V. Picton, the houseboat which was in Penarth Marina from January 12th 1997 until it was evicted on October 28th 2003. The truth is, we simply can not keep telling everyone exactly what happened because the siutation still isn't over. Suffice to say that being evicted is not funny, nor coming to terms, with the grief that our five daughters have had to endure, they have only ever known living on a boat as a way of life, not a life-style. We are exhausted! The easiest thing for us to do, (and we would be very grateful if you would like to pass this on), is to direct everyone to the public website www.mvpicton.co.uk From here, and the many links contained there-in, we hope the above question will be satisfactorily answered.
