Hi, I noticed your posting on the net while searching Lawson Brown, my old school. I did not know Chris but checked up the white pages and the only Gregory listed is a HC Gregory 73 Irvine st Central. 041 5824282 I do if he or she is related but I hope this helps. In 1975 I was in std 5 at Greenwood and also used to go to the Ice rink on the beachfront. Good luck with your search.

| PMR 446 Mhz Internet Gateway in the Pensby area
|
by uk511 (Member 10159394) on 23-Jul-2005
|
Welcome to the info page for the PMR 446 Mhz Internet Gateway in the Pensby area
it operates on the following Channel: 7 CTCSS: 19
Operating Hours: 24 hrs
There are PMR446 Internet Gateways up and down the UK and now across the world that anybody with a PMR446 radio can have access to. As an example of how this works, someone within range of my gateway link can talk through that link, over the internet, and out through another gateway in, say, Belgium or Australia. Someone within range of that second gateway can then communicate back and thus establish a conversation. Accessing the gateway using your PMR446 Radio All the gateways operate a CTCSS access system which requires a CTCSS capable radio with CTCSS set to 127.3Hz (CTCSS tone 19 on most radios).
To access the PMR 446 Mhz Internet Gateway in the Pensby area set your radio to Channel 7, CTCSS code 19
The gateway is very easy to use. You use it as you would with a normal one to one communication, no callsigns are required, just call CQ or just a straightforward 'Hello, this is X calling from Y, anyone copy?' and you might be surprised who comes back to you as there are gateways all over the world. Note that there can often be a delay from the station that you are speaking to and don't forget to wait for the pips after their over before you transmit. It is also best to press the PTT button on your radio and wait a second before speaking to make sure the beginning of your over doesn't get cut off. If you don't have CTCSS on your radio you won't be able to transmit to the gateway but you will still be able to listen in on Channel 4.
When the system is idle the gateway will play this voice message every 10 minutes identifying the gateway. This message was generated using The Festival Speech Synthesis System on Linux.
During the week the network is fairly quiet during the daytime with most activity taking place during the evening and at the weekend but if it is quiet call CQ, a lot of people are monitoring even if they're not talking...
There are just a few Do's and Don'ts that will help keep the network sane: Don't swear, don't use call or ring tones, do switch off 'roger beeps' if possible.
RADIOS CAN BE BOUGHT AT ARGOS AND MANY STORES PLEASE ENSURE THAT THE RADIOS YOU GET HAVE THE 38 SUB TONES OR CTCSS TONES
thank you from the gateway keeper and we hope you will use and enjoy this free service who knows you could maybe link up with lost freinds and chat with them from all over the world
FOR MORE INFO ON RADIO GATEWAYS AND TO DOWNLOAD A PC CLIENT VISIT www.446user.co.uk and download the pc client then you can chat with people on handsets from around the uk and the world for free no call charges or top ups just good old free software and free airtime

Stumbled onto the 'knowhere' site and amazed to see reference to Pensby childrens home.
I was there, by my reckoning, in 1977. I was a 3rd year in Junior school and was about 8 or 9 years old.
Anyone have any details or records about the place or anything of interest, other sites perhaps? Worst memory being force fed fish which they knew I had an allergy to and the sweet tins and trip to knowsley safari.
As far as i know it was nothing to do with Thingwall hospital in name, I was reffered by a specialist called Llewellyn based at
Clatterbridge hospital.

From sneaking out at night to the school at the back, from the lifeboat dingy that used to be filled with water on the football pitch. Getting chased by a bull on the farmers field at the back. Going for walks with the vicor every Sunday. Going in the storage hut where the where the merry go round was. Has anyone got any old pictures love to here from anyone with regards to this message. Yes i thought i would add more information. I remember Nurse Parker, she was my favourite and Nurse Scott, she was my least favourite. I remember going home at the weekends and every Friday we used to have a boiled egg for our tea in this sort of playhouse/shed/hut outside.
I remember playing in the childrens prams outside and being taught, like a nursery in this mobil outside. My best friend was a boy called Roddy and he had curly hair.
The dorms were big with one wall at the end being this massive wardrobe. I think my dorm was downstairs. Tinned plum tomatoes aays remind me of the place, so we must have eaten them there.
It was so long ago really have to strain my memory. Also there was this boat outde that we used to play on. Am i right???
Would love to hear more stories...Lesley. I was about 3 yrs old. So it would have been about 1970. ... more >>

I was there from early march til poss june 1975 and i have very fond memories of it.(strange but true) We were not in the big house, with matron, but in buildings down in the dip. The doctors used to come now and again and you'd be whisked into the purpose built rooms outside the main doors hoping that it might be your turn to go home. There was the carousel up in the large shed and there was a boy called Nigel who was unable to talk or care for himself and his dad was great he used to come every day and visit him and take a group of us around the woods trying to make shapes of different animals out of tree branches. We used to go up to the 'big house' to do jig saws with matron and went on walks. The school was really good as it had two classrooms, i would say it was up to about 10 in one class and 11 onwards in the other. Inside the hospital there was a young girl in a caste in the bed near the doors and in the good weather they opened up the doors for her to get some fresh air as she was to be in plaster for about 9 months, unbelievable now but that was the way back then. I believe the staff were good and fair and tried to keep alot of children in some sort of order. I travelled back a couple of years later and they still remembered me and it hadn't changed and then i was told it had been turned into murrayfield and everything was long gone. For some of us it wasn't such a bad part of our childhood. But i can say that because i went home i know some of the children lived there permanently. ... more >>
