The place to go for a lazy afternoon, pub quiz or last call

Pubs
- I must say that I really like the Ploughman's. They serve good beer, good whisky and good fish 'n chips. I haven't had any 'mushy' food there yet. Moreover, the guys aren't all old. From the nearby Camphill Estate there come a lot of young, incredibly nice folks from all over the world. And even though they tend to stick togehter, most are quite open for conversations with locals. I was a guest there, and will be a co-worker in summer, and I enjoyed wonderful, lengthy conversations with a Scot I met there. And he HAD teeth:-)
- Everytime you walk past 'Blacks', notice how everyone is in the same seat, same position, wearing the same clothes and their drinks are at the same level they were at 3 days ago. The dog is also always lying on the floor there too. No wonder the nickname for this place is 'Starwars Bar'. The staff are slappers so you're guaranteed a good night.
The Ploughman tends to cater for under-age teenagers who sit at the back of the pub, beside the pool table where it is dark. This is so that no-one recognises them as being 13. This pub is a bit more lively although the old men tend to hit on the little girls.
- I know what you mean about the Hotel. Full of fat bald men with moustaches. There is a latent gay atmosphere here, but they are all too macho to be the 'receiver'. What they do instead is wait for a tourist to stumble by and jump them in the toilets with the gang version of that olf "Sqeal like a piggy boy!" classic. Since there aren't many tourists in Culter (and less since the News of the World expose), these guys are getting more and more sexually pent up all the time. This has resulted in the much publisised violence.
- If you are fresh faced then hang out on the bench between the shops and the bus shelter and either threaten a stranger into buying you cider from Spar, or offer to sell them your body. I know this usually works because all the kids stagger around pissed out of their minds all week. The shops also sell plenty of alchopops. Drugs can be bought at the bus shelter from guys in bike jackets.
