Hartley family tree. by Paul Hartley (Member 10226532) on 27-May-2008
It’s probably a long shot but are there still any Hartley’s in the Kilnhurst / Swinton areas.
On tracing back our name I found they originated from one person moving from Kilnhurst to Manchester in the 1890’s. From that one brother that moved to Manchester just off the A57, there are now around 100 Hartley’s living around Manchester, 5 in Cleveleys and 2 in California USA.

    Paul,

There are lots of Hartleys still in Swinton and the surrounding areas including me. I was born and live in Barnsley, but stem from the Swinton 'clan'. My great-great-grandfather (John Thomas Hartley was born in Kilnhurst in 1857 and lived in Swinton until 1904 when he died. He had lots of siblings (George, Edmund, Mary Ann, James, and Edwin) so your ancestor could be one of those, however... more >>

There were two sons Leonard & Colin, both sadly deceased but also 3 daughters.
