- The Marquis of Bute is alias Johnny Dumfries, the Champion Racing Driver
of Le Mann. Lord "Dickie" Attenborough, actor and director, owns the last farm you come to as you approach the minor ferry in North Bute that shuttles over to Colintraive in Argyll. Jimmy Reed, one time Communist hell-raiser at Glasgow Shipyards, now lives in a very large and fine Victorian residence overlooking Rothesay Habour. Some are more equal than others apparently.
- Dr Hazel Markwell world renowned Bio-ethicist and University of Toronto Professor has a holiday home on Bute.
