Corner eateries, quick bites and the local chippy

- The Fish and Chip shop is the only place.
- Food is not really part of the local culture, many people seem to live on biscuits, crisps, chips washed down with Irn Brew.Rothesay Restaurants serve up microwaved convenience meals and charge Chef prices. Staying in a B&B for 8 days I resorted to buying bananas and take-away curry from the supermarket.Despite its claim to be The Best Fish and Chips in the World painted all over its shopfront, the big fish and chipper is a real disappointment. Brechins Brasserie serves fresh food freshly cooked and is not expensive, and Cafe Musica near the Castle does veggie baguettes and good coffee. Despite the long menues outside all the hotels, the only freshly cooked, freshly caught seafood on Bute that I found was at the Russian Tavern by Port Bannatyne Marina. The Russian Chef there is the only pro in these parts it seems.
- Ardmory house hotel. fantastic meals - don't know why it is so quiet.
- The Electric Bakery on Montague Street does excellent baguettes.
The Dairy makes the best rolls and sausage I've ever had.
- Zaveroni's cafe or Zaveroni's fish and chicken bar what a wonderful franchise for a wonderful island Zaveroni's
- Fowlers was an excellant restaurant in a prime position, what a loss to the island
- lovely restaurants and chippies
- Jimys chinky is crap
- Sea-Dragon Chinese reasturant in East Princes Street, Rothesay. Best chinky grub availiable in Rothesay. Pop in and have a chat with Jimmy, the glaswegian chinaman. Also try the Oriental chippy in the towns high street, 100 yds past the polis office, great food & generous portions.
- Mc intyres haggis superb!
- The West End chippie which has won best fish and chip shop of the year award several times (honest!)
