I'm so sorry I was thinking of OBF with that ghastly Brian Garnett who by the looks of it has shot himself in the foot!
NBF is very very good and a fascinating read to boot.

Oh my god Alice! i have just read that link you posted about mr garnett, what a low life creep he really is. No wonder he is such a control freak, he has to many lies to hide.
He banned me from his "Old Broughtonians Forum" not long ago because i called him a bully, then he sent a message to a friend of mine saying if i contacted him he would let me back on again, ha! no way would i go back to that bullies site ever again.
The New Broughton site is miles better. ... more >>

Great to read all the Broughton messages. My brother in law and before him my father were the managers of Blackfriars Baths. Names were Ben Oakley and Harry Morgan. Anybody remember them?Ben became the swimming teacher for Salford.

Hi David
Yes I remember Mr Jones he was a nice man
did you ever go on the picnic trips dont remember where we went but it sure had a lot of grass which we did not see much of in them days.
- Re: Hodge Lane Sunday School
by Dave Collinson (Member 10258759) on 4-Mar-2011
I also lived in Hodge Lane, 115, and remember going to Hodge Lane Mission on Sundays. I remember you had a card and got a star stamped in it. You needed so many stars to go on the trip away if I remember right. Also remember going to the wash house with my Mam, and yes, the Stag Inn down the road.
Thanks for bringing back these memories of childhood.

David Challinor, I remember your father who was the Drum major of the Boys Brigade at Hodge lane Mission Hall also known as Lees' Mission. He was a very smart man and a good player on the drums. He died at a fairly young age after the war which was very sad for his wife nee Vera Blackledge. I played the kettle drum in the band before and during the war and was a Sunday School teacher after the war till 1945 when my father who was manager at Hodge Lane Baths and Wash House retired. We went to live in Carrington. ... more >>

Hi Dave; You mentioned the Wash House. I lived there for sixteen years and my father, Harry Morgan ran it with a staff of course until he retired in 1945. I went to the Mission too and still hum some of those beautiful hymns especially the Welsh ones!
