You can tell us more about Sefton.
Pubs
- The Swan (WOOD St, Liverpool) BIKER METAL PUNK GOTH (GHOST STORY READING UPSTAIRS)
- The Priory, Sefton Road, Litherland
- The Meadows Pub is at least 50 years old in its present form, as my Grandfather used to drink there, and it was used as a temporary hospital during the Second World War, but it was rebuilt from the original which was a coach house for stops on the Liverpool to Lancaster route. Another connection was that it was named after the Sefton Meados flats, where the original Grand National horse race was held for its firast four years before moving to Aintree in 1896. Locals will know the small road to the left of the pub is called Old Racecourse Road.
- Try two of the smallest pubs in the country - The Volunteer Canteen in Waterloo (off South Road, ask for "The Volly" and The Crows Nest in Crosby (opposite The Birkey near Moor Lane). The Raven on South Road is alr ight if you want somewhere a bit more lively.
- The Meadows Pub, Maghull. The noticeboard states it is 20 years old. I left the area 40 years ago & it was there then!
- Good country pub is the Phesant in High Town (its also does some good home cooking!)
- Not a bad pub in the original Sefton village - The Punch Bowl, next to Sefton church, a building, whose origins date back to the Reformation. Also, the oldest pub in Lancashire is said to be "The Scotch Piper", on the old Southport Road, just outside of Maghull, Sefton. Old white-walled, thatched building, low ceilings, beams, lousy beer etc.
- The George, Crosby Village (occasionally young-young and too loud)
- The Meadows, Maghull (20 yrs olds)
- Other okay pubs include The Edinburgh (locally called The Bug), College Road, Crosby (40 yrs olds), The Crosby, Liverpool Road (young families at lunchtimes), The Victoria, Waterloo (quiet and relaxing at lunchtimes), and The Brooke, Brooke Road and the Jubilee, Hatton Hill (both popular for a while with 20 yrs olds)
