Cringing Cult of Celebrity in Shaldon, Devon*

Famous residents and ex-residents.

You can tell us more about Shaldon.

Cringing Cult of Celebrity
  • Shakey is one of the most famous residents of Shaldon
  • Charlie Hulbert and Russ hawkins
  • Sir Ronald of Evansville - god bless him and all who sail in him!
  • i saw Jimmy Saville strolling down Fore Street this summer
  • Long John Coley
  • Everyone who wrote to the Council protesting against the planning application for the Beachcomber - we need facilities for the village and not these money grabbers.
  • Mike Fitzmaurice - captain extraordinaire of the Bowls Club and the London A quiz team.
  • All the people that fought against Midas. They can now see the new plans which will enhance the Teignhaven site and improve the commercial prospects of the Village.
  • Purple Brian has moved to Teignmouth and will no doubt be banned from every Pub over there before too long. Bernie O'Donnell who was behind the coup that removed Lady Astbury from the Parish Council. Remember those who live by the sword etc. !!!
  • Janet Astbury has been ousted as Parish Council Chairman. Her dominating attitude will no doubt be replaced by that of Bernie O'Donnell. One ego goes another moves in !!
  • The Teignhaven Action Group who made sure that the defence against Midas was well organised, insistent and determined.
  • Chris Clarence, Jack Matthews (what did he build in his boat yard?), Ashley Manhire (this was a joke right?)
  • At last, a very big up for Reg, our District Councillor who came up trumps for our Village.
  • Bob Rackley for England Footy Manager!
  • Cor Blimey, Wally and his renovated Recycling Centre antiques
  • Adrian Ashton for starting the fight against Midas Homes
  • Bernie O'Donnell, Jon Rawson, Tony Wharton & Ann Storton for leading the successful battle against Midas. Reg Astbury for deciding to back the residents when it was obvious they would win.
  • Following the collapse (so far) of the Midas bid to spoil Shaldon we need to acknowledge once again Bernie O'Donnell plus Jon Rawson who has had more letters published than most of us write in a lifetime ! Keep up the good work. Once we sort Midas out we can look forward to the Bridge chaos and the Broadmeadow caper. Anyone out there who can take over from those who have served us so well in the Battle of Teignhaven ??
  • Purple, commonly mistaken for Santa Claus.
  • Bernie O'Donnell - forever our Chairman. John Hammond - the bowling Hun. Mick Wiggins - the best Bar Steward in Shaldon.
  • Tony Wharton - deserves a knighthood for his Teignhaven work
  • Bryan the walker, although not everyone spells it like that - joke Dad! Purple Brian. Mad Rob Hacker And guest appearances from the Jersey Flier.
  • Hmm. celebrities yes, but known famous....yet!
